A 1920s Road Car with Indy 500 Winning DNA - Donald Osborne Drives the 1923 Duesenberg Model A!

It may look like any ol' 1920s sedan, but under the "dropside" hood lies the beating heart of an IndyCar - an winning IndyCar at that. The 1923 Duesenberg Model A is a spectacular meld of fashion and performance that few cars have managed to match in the years since. Watch as Donald Osborne takes Antonio Melegari of "In the Drivers' Seat with ABS" for a trip down Duesenberg lane to learn a little more about this magnificent automobile.

What a great video. The engaging dialogue between Donald and Antonio shows their genuine interest in, and enjoyment of, the experience of driving and riding in this unique piece of history. A really enjoyable watch.

Donald's final comment of "entertainment can be found in all ways, at all speeds, on all types of roads". I think it would be interesting to see them out in a modern rock crawler. Speed can be measured at less than 1 mph in certain conditions. I love the Duesenburgs. Riding in one is on my bucket list that probably will never be fulfilled. But, rock crawlers, which I also have never actually experienced look like great fun. I used to enjoy offroading in 1988 Toyota 4x4 pickup. Duesenburg model J and the Bugatti type 41 are among my most favored automobiles.

Duesenberg Indianapolis 500 engines were straight eights with a displacement of 90 cu in. In their model "a" series, they were 260 cu in.

By the way... today at our office we had someone visit us driving an Alpha Romeo Giulia in a beautiful blue color. It's a somewhat unusual car to see in these parts (Scottsdale, Arizona at Paradise Memorial Gardens Cemetery where you attended a funeral burial for one of your friends a few years ago. I believe you were driving a 50's MG or Triumph... I don't exactly recall...)

The glass behind your head is ummm... interesting. I'll bet that makes a mess, should you get rear ended in your Duesenberg. Guess it'll only be the driver who gets sliced up, and he's by definition total scum. Not Donald, of course, he's a treasure.

The young guy will eventually be the old guy, and how great of a head start does he have sitting next to Donald; it is very important to pass on knowledge and appreciation for these old cars, this is not your average 'young guy'.

@@lemonlemon7954 but this format is not a school lesson, and the idea of those young "side kicks" for Donald is not good.With Jay it works, with the youngsters , that have no idea about anything of that time and talking a bit to loud and to self confident around the subject, still not knowing what they speak about, is slightly annoying.Not to speak about the fashion optics with caps...
