It's a pretty simple concept that anyone should know, but impossible to execute unless you have some serious training under your belt. Footwork is 70% of the game. If you are in position, you can almost certainly return any sort of balls if you are experienced. If your feet can't keep up, you are done.
@Nathan_BriTT

Facts gotta start hitting that 🕺🏻
@namejowee
@namejowee 9 дней назад
Work on finding your comfort contact point. Once you recognise where your contact point is, all you need to do is move your body until the ball lines up with where you're going to hit it. Then it's all about training your footwork to be able to hit the ball where you feel most comfortable during drills.

In China and where I am now, coaches always tell me”when you strike, always shift your centre of gravity to prepare a more controlled and powerful hit”, I guess that is why your feet is always more important

Undoubtedly. You can see watching the inaugural season of MLTT a lot of the players were getting frustrated with whatever Butterfly ball they were forced to use
@taureanlloyd925
@taureanlloyd925 10 дней назад
That is why they say hit by the legs not your forearm. The legs and core is what generates movement and power. The forearm is just there to guide the ball back.

Is the rating here official for WTT? Or the rating here is only for this place? I don't understanf. 😢

It's the official United States rating system 😎
@dylanchisolm2960
@dylanchisolm2960 5 дней назад
WTT uses ranking points that are won through placing highly in/winning events, and that’s for world rankings. USATT also has rankings, but in this case he’s referring to skill rating, which can rise and fall based on who you win and lose against at sanctioned tournaments.

I honestly think the coach is oversimplifying things a bit. Sorry, but it's not that easy. He says the right things and to him we are all the same but every 100 you got another level to climb. I am sure you are aware of the book called "breaking 2000" by Alex Polyakov. It was one of the things that helped me break 2000 back in the day. Highly recommend

Nathan, you don't play better vs higher level players. It feels that way because a higher level player will give you a more consistent ball that makes more sense and has more power. That ball is easy to understand and easy to attack. A lower level player will give you a zero-quality ball that is dead and just floats in the air; that ball is much harder to attack because you must now generate all the energy yourself, you can't use the incoming energy as there is none. I was under the same false impression for a while, actually. The reality is - you're not playing better, you're playing exactly the same, it's just that the game is easier to play because it's closer to what you've practicsed. Playing a faster, higher energy ball just masks issues in your game that prevent you from doing a proper stroke in a match.

At 5:41, when he says you were standing at the middle and stretching your hand he is right and wrong at the same time. It is good to play with a stretched hand as it gives you more acceleration, but what he means to say is that your right leg needs to be under your elbow for support to guide the ball and maximize the power from your body.

@quetzalcoatl5961
@quetzalcoatl5961 9 дней назад
Nah he is correct because in this video, the main focus is stability and not power. The closer your forearm to the elbow the more stable your strokes will be. Stretching gives more speed and power but definitely less stability. If you do drills will a strecthed strokes, the ball will comes back to you faster thus you will be having a hard time recovering your positions. You wont be able to maintain the drills for long..

@@quetzalcoatl5961 the idea in drills is to build habit, stretching you’re arm is not a bad habit because stability is developed from your legs. This is advice from former WR 18 Robert Gardos.

I think from 1600-2400 the game is the same, just the consistency, power and spin go up incrementally, but once you surpass 2500 or 2600 the game becomes more technical as small mistakes are punished a lot more. I think to get to 2400 there really isn't anything special that you need(many 2400s that I play or see playing have unconventional borderline bad technique). On the other hand, to get to a top level(2800+) your fundamentals need to be perfect and it requires some talent or a lot of motivation.

IMHO this is very very far from reality. There are many many many skill and knowledge levels between 1600 and 2400. I know many talented junior players who trained full time and never made it past 2200. Some never even made it to 2100 or even 2000... And then they quit and or switched sports.
