Thank you Duzer!! You've been a tremendous source of inspiration and guidance for me. I have some inspiration for you: get the canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce to put on your burritos. They are amazing!
@@duzer Ryan, if you have some time, check out the CT video I recently posted in honor of my father-in-law who did the CT back in 1992 at 61 on a steel bike with zero sus with enough gear to cripple a mule. I will be forever amazed at his effort as I attempt to follow in his footsteps as a nearly 60 year old, myself. Cheers.
@@PeterArrow thanks Peter. Size medium. And I think you’re right…I think there is a healthy balance you have to strike with making this kind of content. It shouldn’t be too self important or self focused. At the same time, talking about yourself and how you’re feeling is essential to telling the story. My goal for future videos is to spend more time interviewing people to try to take the focus away from me.
I came from a bad home, and in my twenties I spent a lot of time out in Anza-Borrego State park and Ocotillo Wells OHV Park. You rode through the former and by the latter. That's some beautiful country, a place where one can slow down to a walk, stop and think - heal from childhood trauma. The part you mentioned about PT and folks in their 70s saying it seemed to them that it was just yesterday that they were your age - that's very true. I'm 56 and fairing pretty good but sometimes hardly recognize my own reflection. Seems like yesterday I was riding my dirt bike out that way, but that was 1989, some 35 years ago. Time flies and we're all just renters in this world. I don't live in San Diego any more and seeing the scenery meant a lot to me. Thanks you so very much for sharing.
Thank you for watching and for sharing this. It was an incredible place. I woke up every day in my test asking myself how it was possible to feel so good.
@@dlambbikepacking I've been all over the USA and traveled the world and yes there's something about the greater Anza-Borrego area that gives off an "energizing vibe" like no other place. Amazing amount of quartz and granite in the area. You took Hwy S22 from Borrego Springs to Salton City. At one point near Hwy 86 you are standing on an overlook that looks south. That wash below is were the last X-Files episode (1990s UFO tv show) was filmed. In it, the "smoking man" was in a mud hut they had temporary constructed for the shoot. He made the statement, "They can't come here. There's something in the soil." By "they" I believe he meant "the bad people". Sounds crazy, but I believe there is something very geologically unique out there. Some places on this world have a "bad" vibe and some "good". Anza is definitely good. Maybe in fact that's why they tried flooding it and in part succeeded? If you are ever out Vegas way, drop aeolus(dot)sv(at)gmail an email and the wife and I would be happy to take you to dinner. The strip has some good food.
@@sailingaeolus I know the X files! It would be impossible to forget that iconic theme song. I don’t remember that scene though. I’m sitting in my apartment wishing i was back in Anza Borrego right now. I’ll drop you a line if I’m ever in Vegas!
@@dlambbikepacking If you google "x-files filmed at ocotillo wells" you'll find some interesting links, text and pictures. Ocotillo Wells is the Offroad park you rode right by on the S22. Maybe it wasn't by chance you stopped at that very point, flew your drone over the very spot that episode was filmed...? Synchronicity?
Just found the channel. 50? You seriously dont look a day over 30.. Well done! Im 56 and trying to convince myself that I want to try BikePacking. Im dealing with some ankle and knee issues but still want to give it a try. Ive been eyeing the 600x for 2 years but still haven't bit the bullet. Missed the great sale in Dec. Sure would love to just sit on one for 5 mins and see if I like it. Ive got a 15 year old fuji road bike that does me well on pavement but its time for some dirt. Thanks for sharing!!!
Im 29! It was a figure of speech meant to convey that I feel like my life will pass me by if I don't get out there on adventures. Thank you for watching! The 600x is a phenomenal bike., albeit a little heavy. They are often for sale on the Priority 600x facebook page i would check that out!
@dlambbikepacking I appreciate the insight. Video and commentary was great. I think the weight of the 600x is really the only "negative" thing I've heard with the reviews. Maybe someday!!
Wow the most amazing part and there were many, was the surprise at the end where you say you’re turning 50!! What for the whole film I assumed you were -25-30 max. Keep on going brother!!!!
Thanks David for this video. You did a great job and videotaping most of it. 👍 I was a long-time Arizona Tea pot smoker too for many years, but I conquered all that 23 years ago. Currently, I live and work in Palm Desert, CA. You rode your bike right past my house. Very cool. I used to ride bikes. Now, I got fat, and I am fighting sugar like Chase talked about. A lot of similarities. 🙂 Keep on doing what works and keeping yourself happy. 🙏
Great adventure, I’m 64 today and have been on many of these trails. Fantastic job filming this. It’s more work than most people realize.👍 enjoy the ride it goes fast.
I too work in a PT clinic as an ATC. I do need to work but I’m not going to die working and die to work. I’m going to die living everyday. Sometimes I have to wait for the weekends or vacations to do what I want but they are the most lived times of my life.
Most of it. I've got a video up if you want to check it out. "Ups and Downs on the Colorado Trail 30 Years Apart". I follow in the footsteps of my father-in-law who did it 30 years ago on a steel bike w/o sus.@@dlambbikepacking
First visit to your channel - liked and subscribed. Congrats on completing this long-arse and arduous trek, Dave. Fantastic job capturing your experience in this vid - drone footage was amazing, really gave the viewer a sense of the expanse of that desert and mountains your traversed. Again, great job and thanks for sharing your amazing adventure with us. It is very inspiring! 🤜🤛
Just finished watching it in full. The interview at Slab City and your synthesis of it the next day as you climb up makes this work rise from a bikepacking video to a documentary. There are lots of bikepacking videos with great visuals, but what is missing in almost all of them is the contemplation of characters inhabiting the landscape, the history and its effect on you. There are a few more opportunities in this video that you do not take, but which the drone visuals easily affords - a quick history of the landscape you are traveling through. Salton City, Coachella, the central valley, the canal, the sierras, are all central to california's history and culture and you have a chance to dwell on it. Looking forward to your growth as a bikepacking documentarian!
I love constructive feedback! That was my only regret after I published the video. I spent time before the ride reading about the history of the salton sea and had footage describing it, but my goal was to keep the video around 30 minutes and that didn’t make the cut. I think you’re right that info could have been conveyed in the drone shots after Slab city. Thank you 🙏
Excellent video. I noticed you started in Alpine instead of San Diego. I think you did that to avoid the trail navigating through San Diego like what Ryan encounted. Well edited story. Great job.
I am so proud of you and your success in accomplishing this goal. You have done this all your life in the many pursuits you have undertaken with the passion and focus you always bring to the effort to succeed and to do it with humility. I am once again a very proud father today! Congrats!
Awesome video. You've put it together really well....fun watch. Looking forward to more adventures. .....sorry to hear about Dr Spencer...like many of us im I'm a Duzer fan too....his time with Dr. Spencer was definitely memorable. I'm know announcing Dr. Spencer's passing wasn't in your plans for this trip but you did well to let us know. 😊
Great video! You're a beast!! It took me twice as long to do that route last year (October 2022). I loved seeing this route from your perspective. Can't wait to see your next adventure.
Great video and congratulations for making it and completing the route. I live and cycle in Japan, but it has long been my dream to cycle across the US. I will do it in the summer of 2025... LA to NY. I'll be 61 by then, so it'll probably be my last big ride. As you said, we die a little each day, so we should have fun as life slips away. :)
Great video man! I am hoping to do this route in the near future and watching this has me even more pumped. @duzer is a huge source of inspiration for me as well. Even at my age lol. Just subscribed. Cheers
I am a older Canadian too, I also want to do this ride this spring when down there , maybe if timing and if you are interested in company we could do some of the ride together . Cheers@@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures
Man. I don’t know you. But thank you for sharing your experience. I think this will be my next goal. Really great video and well put together. I definitely don’t have though skills. Nice work out there on the bike!
@@dlambbikepacking No, sorry, I´m a non-cyclist 🤣 But I love to watch videos like yours. The Danube cycle way looks tough, that´s a long long way to ride.
Great video and adventure! I'm a road rider and can relate to riding a multiday adventure with knee pain. Do you mind sharing the drone you use? Thanks!

Canyon sin nombre is one of the highlights of the ride. Even though it’s slow and difficult it’s ultimately rewarding. The 30 mile highway section is truly awful. There is a big shoulder but all it would take is one distracted driver. As I recall there is no way of connecting the rest of the route without the highway section.
