Mahir Behlulovic is the only school-age child in the small village of Petrovici in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for the first five years of his schooling will be the only child in his classroom. Petrovici is remote and the nearest town is a 40 minute drive down a winding mountain road. To solve the problem the local authority decided to reopen the village school and hire a dedicated teacher for Mahir. (AP video by Almir Alic) #bosniaherzegovina #news #school

I sometimes had one on one teaching as a kid because I was ahead of all my classmates and I hated it lol. It was hard to concentrate with the teacher constantly breathing down my neck. I just need them to tell me what to do and then leave. They would only need to explain it once and then I would understand what to do, after that I could work by myself with zero help. Whenever the teacher worked one on one with you too they would always spend ages exposing everything and over explain it, like I understood 10 minutes ago, why are you still explaining. I much preferred just being given a textbook and being told to work through it by myself.

Wow...that's dedication to education at another level! I remember many years ago travelling across Costa Rica, where family and education are THE top priorities in the country we went on this lonely road up high in a remote mountainous region. The village near the top was teeny tiny and surrounded by the forest. Yet there was a school. And the few children in it were wearing their school uniforms, just like any other school. I was shocked. If these kids had to go to school in a larger place it would have taken hours to get there and back. So they brought the school to them. We should never underestimate the power of education even in the most remote of places.
