Is that committee stuff accessible for others to read? Or is it your own copy?

The originals are kept at the Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, Delaware, however they are available online as well in searchable form. In addition, you can download them, however the downloads are not searchable. digital.hagley.org/LMSS_2658_Box04_V01#page/1/mode/2up

Do you have an email address? I recently came into possession of over 150 Orthacoustic Radio Transcripts and I would like your expertise regarding their historic and monetary value.

As a 33 year old I feel like a kid in the 78rpm game. I’ve only been collecting for 2 years and it’s hard to find videos about them and fun as these. Thank you for all you do for us 78 collectors

I'm 32 and it's the same for me. I've found boxes of them back in 2012, 2014, 2016. $5 for about 45 lbs worth of them, people were on their hands and knees crying to me to take them from their yard sales. I still have them, never touched them, no idea what I have, never cataloged. I could have really rare records in there and I'd have not a clue. All I know is mostly all of them looked just fine, but a lot of them are mildewy and moldy, and some are broken and need gluing. A couple years ago I found a Philco floor console radio and record player from WW2 for $18 at Goodwill, and it is entirely original. It needs work which I don't know how to do, hopefully I can learn without blowing it up. But It will play these old records, so that has gave me a greater effort into getting what I have cleaned, cataloged, and organized, and documented so I can enjoy them.

Weirdly enough, record sets from the 78 era aren't common where I live. I've only ever found one at a record store. Stan Kenton's 'Artistry In Rhythm' from 1946 and that album has a record missing as well. I'm unsure whether 78 albums were even released here in NZ since my great grandmother also has no recollection of them ever existing either.

I'm going through boxes of 78 shellacs. Do I need to keep the original binders they are in? They are old, dusty, dirty, & some barely holding on. Thank you.

Hello! Are they album set binders with custom artwork depicting the artists or are they the generic (holding 8-12 discs) binders that were meant to hold unrelated discs? Many collectors (not all) have a rather negative view of the generic binders. Although they store the discs vertically (which is correct) they have a nasty reputation of cracking records near the spine of the binder and they are almost always highly acidic paper which isn't great for the discs and tends to fall apart about the time you are either removing them from the shelves or putting them back, thus dropping discs. In addition, putting a clean record in a dirty sleeve means the record must be re-cleaned before it is played again. If they are the custom sets, many collectors put them in individual sleeves and store them with, but not in, the original binders. If they are in very bad condition, I know of collectors who will throw the binder away, but keep the front cover and store it with the discs. Also keep any of the printed notes that were included with some sets. I hope that helps a little bit!

@@MarkAtnip I have several brown canvas 78rpm binders ("Perfection" brand) and they are literally just crumbling away in my hands. I am so very very careful at flipping the pages, and the paper just tears apart with just one touch no matter how careful I am. Just one turn and a page becomes confetti. It makes me sad to break apart history, as this was someone's very expensive music library back in those old days, and they took a lot of care in preserving their music. But the binders do not want to cooperate and just are not safe storage for both the dust aspect being antithetical to washing the records, and the binders crumbling away and records threatening to fall out. I'd never thrown them away as their inventory notes are matching to the records inside and they are so old, nobody has ever lost the records out of them, so I just have them stored empty in a document tote in my garage attic.

I found victrola 66100 Tell Her I Love Her So and victrola 66071 My Mother both by Orville Harold. I had to add these to discogs. Discogs had an existing 2 sider of these as Victrola 669 listed.

It is amazing to me that some seemingly common items that aren't in the Discogs database as of yet. I suppose it takes someone that wants to make the effort to add them. I uploaded a couple of discs a long time ago, but it took longer than I expected and the forms are not intended for 78s. I did it incorrectly (apparently) and gave up on future Discogs efforts.

Rarest? I have always tried to focus on discs that are very rare and have acquired several of which I have the only known copy. That doesn't mean they are valuable, but they are definitely rare.
