Yes. you read the title correctly. Thanks to Ebay auctions, I now have this nice Dimension 9200. Still not sure if Im going to keep it or not so if you want, you can share what you think should be done with the machine. Enjoy!

The previous owner used this PC as Home Theatre PC to watch Full HD Blu-ray Movies.

Very good machine for its time, and you could achieve a good upgrade. Surprised at the low spec processor. I have a similar system, but I have a Q9400 with a 3.368 GHz o/c on a Biostar mb that takes ddr3 memory. It has Windows 7, and it is an addictive PC with an HD 7570 graphics card. I have to force myself to turn it off sometimes, reminding me that I need the extra HP of a newer machine. Windows 7 is still a good experience compared to newer versions of Windows imo. Luckily I have a 4th gen PC with a gtx 980 that supports W7, too. Kind of the best of both world for serious work. Thanks for the video.

indeed it is! I too was suprised when I saw that it didnt come with a core 2 quad. I have the exact same issue as you do where I often dont even bother using my main machine and just stick to these older beautes. Thanks for watching!

The Dell Dimension 9200 is also known as the Dell XPS 410. As for gaming, the Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM (or maybe 2 GB), and a good video card could play most PS3/Xbox 360 era titles. For newer games, you may need something like a GTX 750 or 950, at least 64-bit Windows 7 (since most games from 2014 onwards are 64-bit only), 8 GB RAM, and Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or Q6700 for games that require a Quad Core processor. Obviously, the Core 2 processor and the 8 GB DDR2 will be inadequate for today's ninth generation games especially with games needing 16 GB RAM although anything with lower requirements should work fine.

@@ScarletAmethyst Havent come across one branded as an XPS yet. Will search that up! You are definitely right about the capabilities of this machine. I might consider maxing it out later on once im done with my custom q9550 machine shown in an earlier video.

I think the case is still cool! Thank you what you might be able to do is check dumpsters (believe you call them bins) for tossed out PCs, laptops.. as a kind of hobby I look for electronics in dumpsters and curbside stuff! Found 2 Dell Latitude 5420 laptops to-day in an apartment dumpster! I believe I have a Dell tower like yours (also a dumpster find). 🤓

I totally agree with you! they look really damn good for their age. Unfortunetly, here in the uk. People arent really allowed to stick computers into dumpsters so the only way I can really find machines like that is by going to the landfill and seeing if anyone is about to dump something as even taking from there is illegal. Thats a really good find!

@@Theutmostgeek where I live, in the US, people, companies toss out PCs, laptops, servers, some networking equipment... There is a couple of e-waste dumpsters not too far from where I live (NC) but what is in the bins - PC cases, monitors, laptops, etc has been rendered unusable. Lots to look at & dig through but not much worth taking. It's the business and apartment dumpsters I find electronics in. Found 2, yes 2! Dell Latitude 5420 laptops to-day. Tossed out in an apartment dumpster I periodically check. I don't live there, but have found some other laptops there before. Have to find a suitable USB - C power supply to see if they work! They are the same, appears to be in great condition...

I had a similar computer to this made by dell (looked the same as your computer) and it had the first SATA cables that I'd ever seen, AMD processor, and it was one of the last Dell's with Windows XP on it. There was a sale on the website so I bought one. I wish I had kept that computer but I eventually sold it to a friend.

An SSD main drive should give loading times 5X approx speed-up.

For 99p it''s a cheap bluray player, that can also play games.

yes it can game, any pc can game (to some extent depending upon game its asked to play, OS it has and upgrades it can take)

Checked: the similar model I have is the Dimension 3100. Front label says it has the Pentium 4 HT, roughly 3.2 Ghz. Think it still works with Win XP. Is your PC a 32 or 64 - bit?
@Theutmostgeek
@Theutmostgeek 2 месяца назад
ah. I have the SFF version of that pc called the 3100C. As far as I know, all core 2 duo cpus were 64 bit. Yours might also have the later 64 bit prescott or cedar mill pentium 4s in it although prescott is missing a few instructions for it to actually be usable in 64 bit windows. Works great for linux though!

@@Theutmostgeek I am not too sure if the Pentium 4 HT / Dimension 3100 CPU can be upgraded or not. Thank you when I got that PC, there were some other PCs, around the same age - Win 7, Vista 🙄😴, XP, one has a ransomware notice on it! 😱🤣

That was a good deal!👍👍 Installing an SSD., and a Linux OS., such as Linux Mint Mate would vastly improve it's performance.

Do you really think a bit of dust is "disgusting" ??? :) I have the 9500, it works pretty well with a GTX 750.

@nalinux
@nalinux 2 месяца назад
@@Theutmostgeek Allergies are different then "disgusting" :) The 9500 I have has the same nice white case. No integrated GPU, I don't remember which was inside when I got it. The CPU is a poor Pentium M 3 GHz, and 4 Go ram. Can't be updated to a Core 2. It runs perfectly with XP and 7. And of course Linux. Far Cry 1 with all video options to max in 1600x900 runs at about 95 fps in the demo scene at start up. But remember there`s a GTX 750 Ti inside now ... Heaven run at 14 fps in 1440x900 :) Since there's a IDE connector, it's a perfect "retro" machine. The bios is a pain, since it complain about the drives connected when we connect/disconnect them. I really enjoy this computer. I wonder if Win 10 has drivers ... I will try it. And Win 98 too :)
