That baby is pitching one heck of a fit and that baby sitter has the nerves of steal. I think the baby sitter will be a good mom. She is very patient and loving. She even allowed the baby to suckle from her for comfort even though she has no milk. She is awesome.
You have taught so much about community relations in these groups. Makes it so much more interesting to know what is going on. Thank you, you are the best on the internet and you have the best monkey community.
The Rhesus babies cry and scream for mum but they do not seem to bite and twist and scratch and twist like the LTMs in Cambodia. Tjis one cried and fussed but it was not mean. The difference could be the babysitter was not mean either, just lovingly holding it close. Thanks for all tour wonderful videos. Marilyn is the most beautiful macaque I have seen. What do you think the golden color is from? Maybe recessive genes? Most importantly, be safe, Arroz. Do what you need to do and be extremely careful. I am still praying for you and Hong Kong.
She's trying to nurse but knows her sister does not have milk. Look at her sister try to talk to her and kiss her head. She's using her sister as a pasify
Ok, I get it now. I guess I have watched the long tails to much, some of them really beat the crap out of their babies. The pig tails seam to be much nicer to their youngsters.
One of the best baby sitters I've seen besides maybe Brody who carried his sister and allowed her to use him as a pacifier. The amber eyed baby is really stunning. I would love to see her as she grows.
Yea, poor sister is right! She doesn't know to give the baby a little nip to get it's attention-distract it. It'll just sit there and scream forever unless something else catches it's attention.
This lil girl not been away from mom and suckling on sister teat isn’t comforting her either. She will get exhausted from screaming and give in by tired herself out. Yes dummy pacifier. She’s lucky to have this.
0:34 why are people like this? See a wild animal and their first instinct is to stretch out their grubby hands? Wild baby animals are scarier to me than adults. Because my first thought is “where’s mom, and how badly is she gonna mess me up for being near her kid?”
Most likely older sister and females that age just want to hold the babies it's gives them practice and the babies always cry for mom every time and it also gives the mom a break from the baby nothing bad going on here just baby having a tantrum most likely cause he wants milk and mom was probably not wanting to give it at the time probably forging herself for food and big sister got her chance to baby sit for a bit, so many people feel like the baby is being hurt cause it's crying but this is a normal part of them growing up they can't cling to mom forever and need to learn the troop to
It must be a kidnapping the mother never returned . Initially , I believed it was her sister and not a kidnapper. At first I noticed the baby was holding on to her and crying or pulling away.. After reading j Rick Laurent Feely post below, I changed my mind ; it could potentially be a kidnapper.
I agree because she is just sitting holding her properly and not trying to even really restrain her. Looks bored. A kidnapper would usually try to suppress the baby in some way. But in my observations (which are mostly LTMs to be fair) a kidnapped baby will usually only pull away from kidnapper if it has a visual line to mom or maybe other relative. Unless it's old enough itd be running around like 2 or 3 mos. If its just a small baby and kidnapper , baby will cling because its scared not to be clinging and may try to comfort nurse. Even the brave ones who try to get away, the second they have all 4 hands off kidnapper and feet on ground, their instincts kick in and they fling themself back onto her and cling rather than feel so abandoned. Often kidnappers make this a game and then refuse to hold them and the baby is fighting to cling to kidnapper while kidnapper refuses to allow it, but if baby starts to walk away kidnapper snatches it up again or grabs tail.
That's the first time I ever felt sorry for one of the babysitters! She was so patient and so gentle with her grooming, that's pretty amazing considering how hysterical the kid was. I love that word dummy it's so funny, here we call them binkies. There is an actual brand of 'dummy" called 'Binky'. Love and prayers to Hong Kong ;)
I think sometimes too when those people come and their voices are so loud and they're very loud I think that upsets the baby sometimes you know that's kind of scary their voices scare me so you know I think I can understand why the babies might get a little upset but I think you're right I think it's hurt his sister her sister it's holding it
I noticed this baby tried to nurse from the older monkey holding it on several occasions and she made no attempt to stop the baby. The baby eventually suckled until it drifted off to sleep. Is it normal for babysitters to do this? I know that kidnappers either react violently or in reverse try to force the baby to their breasts depending on their motivation but I’ve never seen a non-lactating relative happy to provide a dummy, as you called it.
It's not un normal.. I've seen babysitters ( non relatives) allow it occasionally.. I think it depends on the stress lvl of the little one... And how much patience for tantrums the sitter has ...but that's just my opionion :)
@lori, exactly. I watch videos of the long tail macaque monkeys and if any baby tries to suckle on anything but Mom, the babysitter/kidnapper goes crazy stupid. Sometimes even Mom, if they're a bad Mom will pull it off. Jade in another long tail group just had a baby 3 days ago, already she's biting her baby's face, lips and pulling it's hair.
YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT JADA. WHY DOES SHE BITE HER BABIES LIKE THIS...SHE DID THIS TO JULINA ..I THINK THAT'S HER NAME...BUT I BELIEVE SHE HAS A NERVOUS SYSTEM..BECAUSE OF JADE..SHE WASN'T 12 HOURS OLD...BEFORE HER MOM WAS BITING AND PULLING HER HAIR...IM JUST TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY SHE DOES THIS TO HER LITTLE BABIES...IT IS HEART BREAKING...
I remember when I nursed my son till almost 5 months and he started to bite me and smiling as if I had some plastic nipples and I had to say, "no more!" Now you'll get the bottle! I was upset it hurts and I can understand how these mother monkey tolerate it but I do not! Luckily I had another choice "the bottle" but these monkeys expect 24/7 milk bar and that ain't possible.
Dear Arroz All your Videos are treasures but this one in particular. The babysitter stays calm and I can say from experience how difficult this is when a baby is crying like this one does. She is completely aware that it isn't her fault and there's nothing she can do. Instead she is showing unconditional love. What a great teacher to me. And what a beautiful soul. If there is a second part can someone post the link please.
That can't be his mother he wouldn't be screaming like that. That's his babysitter. People have you noticed that when they do this that they go to sleep like our babies they always go to sleep if you noticed that's the way our babies are it's not about the milk it's about the security.
