Thanks for stopping to say hello and great to meet you too. Feedback like that is so nice to hear, especially after having a bit of a RU-vid wobble and hiatus. The young man I was teaching missed a couple of runs on the pike rod today but caught a thumping big perch on a drop shot worm. Lost my reel handle (of all things!) on the way back to my car and spent an unsuccessful hour back tracking to look for it. The things we do for fish eh!? Good luck
Where there is one barbel there is more , keep at it you will get one they go to 13lb along that stretch. all you need is a simple 2/3ft hair rig fished on a running lead big enough to hold bottom. They love crab/krill boilies or pellet and meat on a second rod to double your chances.. I use 15lb coated semi stiff braid and find that bomb proof.. use a size 8 beak pointed hook and put that hair close to your hook as this will give you the chance of chub/carp in the dark also. I feed a few handfuls of 8mil halibut pellet for barbel or if you want the bigger fish use boilies only approach. It is brilliant to see the effort your putting in , only thing you should do if you want to keep getting them is keep the swim to yourself because im not joking when i say somebody showed me a picture of themselves with fish on the bbq at Saltford. well-done lovely to see these videos and this effort.
Thanks for the encouragement. A second rod definitely makes sense but I’m a proven muppet when it comes to landing fish with a second line in the water. Been using krill boilies and thats what Tom had his on. Big mistake using a short rig but the flow was so slow, I thought it might give me an edge. I know exactly what you mean about keeping location to yourself. Seen it first hand. A guy with a bucket full of fish at Keynsham lock. It’s a double edged sword though - get proper anglers fishing on rivers again and it’s more eyes on the water and angling representation in a space that’s getting rapidly crowded out by other river users.
I'm enjoying these latest videos and took a stroll down by the shallows and beyond yesterday, really nice looking stretch although was still quite up and chocolate coloured. How do you go about getting permission to fish that side Charlie?
Thanks - that’s. Really good if you to comment. I’ve got a bad feeling that the rivers are going to up and coloured far more often over the winter months because of climate change. Yes, the land gets a lot of footfall by people wanting to swim and party down at the river, but is private and owned by Park Farm. Ten sessions cost me £50 to Cancer Research and a bit of litter picking. Saw one lady picnicking with her mate and baby who left her soiled nappy and baby grow on the bank. Told her and instead of going back to get it, she went to tell her thug BF that I was giving her grief. I really feel for the farmer because a lot of the problems that used to persist on mead lane and the shallows are being pushed onto him.
Thanks for the info, you could see the various bonfire damage alongside the bank and some litter despite lots of bins available so I guess high summer fishing there would be worth avoiding. I'll hopefully give it a bosh this weekend for a few hours, I'm on the BAA tab but it's a bit of a trek from Bristol with Bath traffic to contend with. Tight lines!
@@kevinoboyle685 yep. He’s bought and placed a bin every ten yards and has to empty them himself, yet some people still don’t use them. Bathampton have some nice water but I’ve nothing else nice to say about that club.
@@philipmaggs6521 Sorry to hear that. I hear so many anglers say that they’ve had bad experiences with that club. Sad as they have a big presence in Bath and Bristol and I know a couple of guys on the committee that are absolutely sound. This might sound like a stupid question but I take it you’re a different Phil Maggs to the one I kayak fish with off the south coast?
