This is my review of the Lems Primal Pursuit barefoot trail runners after 1 month of use.
This trail runner shoe is meant to be in between their more minimal Primal 2 line and their more "maximal" Mesa / Trailhead line. This is the black (Nocturnal Ninja) colourway.
How does it stack up against my other minimalist / barefoot shoes? Is this the best barefoot shoe? Is this even a barefoot shoe?! It's definitely one of the most stylish barefoot shoes out there, but is that enough?!

A transitional shoe that doesn't over commit into the minimalism is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm more interested in extra toe space than I am the other aspects and am currently trying to decide between the Lems Primal Pursuit shown here and the Altra ESCALANTE 3.
@PGBlanks

Thanks for your thoughts! I haven't tried Altras but they are a lot more specialised in running shoes, so if you're planning to do lots of running, and they are the same price, maybe go with those? They do have a thicker sole than these Lems though.

Thanks for the review! Finally, someone reviewed these in the black colorway. Wish I woulda seen your video before I bought so you could've gotten a commission! Planning to use these alot, mostly for concerts and some jogging

thanks for the very kind words! love the specific use case of concerts haha. have you tried other barefoot style shoes before?
@bangbangcabrera

@@PGBlanks i have! I've tried the Xero Alstons, Oswego's, Prios, Z-Trails, Veracruz sandals, the Bedrock Classic sandals, the Vivobarefoot Gobi II and Primus Knit EZ's. So quite a bunch haha. Been wearing minimalist footwear for about 2 years now! And the concert usage is a funny reason haha I was looking for wide toe box and zero drop shoes with enough cushion for jumping around, ventilation and some protection especially around the toe and heel area. I found these actually fit the bill quite well!

@PGBlanks Год назад
@@bangbangcabrera I actually did wear them to a concert once and yes they were great for that purpose 🤣 Which other barefoot shoe would you recommend I try from your list?
@bangbangcabrera
@bangbangcabrera Год назад
@@PGBlanks haha glad to hear! Looks like my investment for that sole purpose (pun intended) will have paid off then 😂 I really enjoyed the Gobi II's as an all around shoe, fairly steep price tag but they've reportedly lasted years if taken care of. I forgot to mention but Splay Freestyles are also really good casual shoe with a great price point. And the Prios are also solid for most activities, including running and lifting, while still being affordable at just under $100

Personally prefer the Trailhead. Much less chunky and not quite a zero drop but close enough. Thanks for the well done clip.
@PGBlanks
@PGBlanks Год назад
Interesting cause they market the Primal Pursuit as a more minimal version of the Trailhead. So is the Trailhead's outsole actually thinner for you, just that it is not zero drop?
@362chop
@362chop Год назад
@@PGBlanks Just feels less clumsy if that makes sense. And yes the outsole is thinner. Obviously personal preference....

You're welcome! Lems is pretty good for people transitioning first into barefoot shoes as they have a lot of varieties of cushioned soles. I have a few other Lems reviews on my channel if you want to have a look. Check out Altra as well if you want a bit more cushion but want to start benefiting from zero drop and the wide toebox.

@@PGBlanks Thanks I'm more interested in big Foot box as got Arthritis in feet. Barefoot Shoes not cheap.

I wouldn't call it a "barefoot" shoe. I would call it a "minimalist" shoe. Its flat, wide toe box, but has a decent sole to it. It's similar to the altra lone peak/superior or the topo runventure. It's still minimal in its design because its flat, relatively flexible, and doesn't have much structure.
@PGBlanks
@PGBlanks Год назад
I agree! Wish they had this design, but with a more minimal sole.

Too bad those don't have a good distribution in europe, they are exactly what i am looking for, wide toe box, zero drop, look like a normal sneaker, but NO stupidly thin 4 mm sole - i get the idea but don't want to walk with those on concrete grounds.
@PGBlanks
@PGBlanks Год назад
Have you tried Altras? They do lean on the extreme side of too much cushion for my taste though.

The NB 574 are built on a wider last, how would you compare the toe room in the NB compared to the Lems?
@chop3625
@chop3625 Год назад
To be honest I have these plus the Trailhead, which I prefer. Less bulk & cushion.
@PGBlanks
@PGBlanks Год назад
Oh did you mean the trailhead is less bulky? Interesting cause on the Lems website they say the trailhead has way less ground feel.
@PGBlanks

@@user-zp1qp3b I think the Trailheads look awesome! I really love Lems's outdoors-ey aesthetic, I think they make the best looking barefoot / minimalist shoes.

Is there socks that has the same wide toe area? I dont like the five fingers but I feel regular socks kind of defeat the purpose.
@PGBlanks
@PGBlanks Год назад
What I've seen people go for are toe socks like Injinji's, but they are a bit pricey. I've also liked those cheap department store socks (i.e. not the super constricting, sporty ones) that are just naturally a bit loose.
@RichardWagenknecht

Try toe socks! You'll never go back to regular socks.

Was this a review of Lems shoes, or a plug for Vivobarefoot Primus Lite?

I actually wear my Lems more. Looks better for day to day use. But I know so many people I've spoken to try Lems and are very disappointed by the cushion so it's good to have comparisons. 😅
