got one on eBay for 102 bucks , came with gigbag ,strap , picks ,cable etc . lowerd the action, set the intonation on it put some good ernie ball slinky's on it then got a 40 watt Glarry bass amplifier . booked a little Thursday night jazz gig and I have already made 4 times my money back on it
I've been wanting to see someone review this model for a while. I have wanted to buy one but have restrained myself since I have too many guitars according to my parents.
I'm old and my very old Mother voiced her disapproval upon finding out I had more than one. If she knew how many more than one I have, it might give her a heart attack.
I got one of these and it was good to go pretty much out of the box. It plays pretty good.. but could still use a good fret level and set up and then it would be excellent.
Same Thing happened to me. I got a Harley Benton LP Style guitar for Christmas and IT was Just Bad. The. Color was wrong, the screws are Not drilled straight, the Bridge screws are not drilled straight as well, and the G String goes Out of tune when I Play chords on IT. I already Set IT Up bought a tusq but but the issue IS still there. I spent Like over 24 hours repairing it but it's still Not going well. Any Suggestion on that g String Problem ?
Hi Dan, I really enjoy watching these videos, I have a quick question, my 6 yo son recently started receiving guitar lessons and so far he is really loving it, I'm a weekend woodworker and am curious to know if there is a kit that you would recommend that I can build without having to buy too many specific tools. I'd like to give my kid a guitar made (or assembled) by me. I appreciate any help.
Classic RU-vid handle. I always tell people I have two hobbies in life that cost me $$...guns and guitars😂 Bro your comments are inundated with spam garbage
Are you still playing bass for your band? If so, then I'm just wondering why you haven't picked up playing guitar in a band since you're very adequate at it?
That box damage usually comes from the expedition, they use hooks to grab things or could be from the customs as they need to inspect the inside are match with the shipping documents or invoice. If the sender marked as Fragile, it should be fine
This is the guitar I bought. I find the fret ends very sharp and annoying. However, this is not a description of Glarry products. I also have others including an F-Hole semi-solid Telecaster that is my favorite guitar, although it came with other issues.
This is the fourth review saying these guitars are not playable out of the box, not a good first guitar for a beginner like myself, the price is great but I would have to spend another $100 or more to have someone set it up for me, I guess I'll have to save more money and go to guitar center or a guitar shop and buy a guitar, what a big disappointment, thanks for the review.
That needs fret leveling not just setup. I bought their thinline telecaster and had to do all the leveling, neck tilt, nut recut, replace the bridge and rewire the pickups.thats a lot for even a cheap guitar.
I bought a Glarry GIB 5 string bass a little over a year and a half ago, and it's been my weekly church bass. I don't remember it needing much more than a basic setup. The pickups are actually pretty decent sounding, but microphonic. Great for the price.
I have some good experience with Glarry - but it's with their cases. They make a nice, quality, Strat/Tele case for a good price. It's great to see them put out a 335 style guitar, but the issues you found at that price point aren't surprising to me. Great video, Dan, keep up the great work!!
Sure, a semi hollow is fine for a beginner. I don’t necessarily recommend this one for a beginner unless you want to learn to work on your own instruments as well
Hey brother Dan!! Been a minute no? More surgery, I had a large mass removed from the old colon!! YUK! Then a couple of months later, they found a few more smaller ones and removed them also, so not fun, and it never is when doctors are digging around your bum, but this specialists happened to be a smoking hot "Baberaham Lincoln" and survived with only her beauty and cunning!! LOL! The first time I went to her office for a check up and to arrange tests then surgery, she had me lay on the exam table and "drop your pants and underwear" as she's about to "dig in" I turned to look into her eyes and said "this is for being late...isn't it"? She laughed her ass off and had to walk out of the room!! A few seconds later, maybe 25 30 seconds I hear the good doc AND her secretary losing their crap laughing in the hall!! LOL!! Anyway, I am on the mend, everything works as normal, and there was no need for colonoscopy bags, which I told my wife I was never going to live like that, and I was prepared to cheat the Rapture and go home early!!! It worked out thank God (again) and I am on the mend!! So...I know you've no doubt tuned it, so I wonder if the intonation is out? Something sounds off. OK Dan, as I'm typing this comment, I hear you stating how bad the set up was etc. You would be better off buying a quality kit guitar, there's EVERY model available including this model, and you could end up with a far better guitar which you could use as a platform for customization. The pickups sound a wee bit muddy to my ear Dan, keep in mind I am SISXTY and after 30 years of lead vocals/writer/rhythm guitar in rock, then hard rock (remember hard rock Dan? Then finally metal, so my ears were blown out many years ago!!! Are you Rapture ready Dan!!? ") Take care brother! Jack ~'()'~
Mine did not come in a padded bag. Also came with a ton of issues that even at this price point. However, I want mine to eventually resemble a very used road dawg from the late 60's, early 70's. Once set up and stuff its a great guitar (for what it is). Have already started gathering parts like a Bigsby style trem and so on. It needs a lot of love, but I like it.
I've had better luck in this price range with Rondo Music SX guitars. Playable out of the box. I had one dead spot on a fretboard but so do a lot of $2,000 Gibson SGs. Heck, the bass player for Khruangbin uses a $200 SX bass. They need a little fret end dressing but not any serious leveling.
Student Guitar that's hard to play, not a good combo. But, I do believe that every guitarist should be able to adjust and maintain their axe. This should be taught near the beginning of any lessons. It would have helped me so much. Good Honest review. I think it is a good value and a great starting point. Now how come PU's cost more than the guitar?>
Hi...excellent review..i own a same guitar..cost me in Amazon $210.00...i'm waiting for a drill from Amazon to start making this guitar my favorite...already i have a nice vintage tremolo in stock (Amazon Too)...and Wilkinson turners to install by myself....the tutorials are here in You Tube......not with the same brand...but it wiil be the same work for her....i get a set of Gibson vintage knobs....the guitar looks great...i take out the factory black ones .... the action is too high ...you're right...the problem is in the bone...is too high....but i order a kit (luthier). in Amazon...is cheap.......to work with the bone ..to me ..this guitar at this moment is awesome...i owned to USA Gibson......a acoustic vintage and a Les Paul tribute...i was thinking in a future buy a Gibson 335....but i saw that one in Amazon....and....why not...when the guitar came in...i was impressed.....with the modifications in mind that i have...this guitar will be my daily guitar.......the guitar from the factory need work...but you can play with her....not like a great guitar...but is ok....when the modifications that i have in mine to her...my Glarry would be a dream guitar....for a fraction of cost of a Gibson.....when i finish everything...after that...i going to proceed with a nice set up by myself...and then Ernie Balls strings .10...i'm desperate to get my final product in my hands....ready to jam..ha,ha,ha,ha...thanks for the video....i hope my comments will be inspirational to other players....to proceed with modifications.......tutorials here in You Tube are very clear..to do it by yourself...;).!..Thanks.
You should check out the Glarry hard shell cases. I watched a couple of reviews and even Trogly was impressed. I Think you audience could benefit. I have a much more expensive case that the Vinal is coming un-glued, and the wood is coming apart.
About what I expected.. nice project guitar to practice setting up. My firefly was the same, once I changed everything it sounded amazing. Your basically buying a body to start with, if your not into that, Epiphone, Gretsch, are good alternatives at a lower price point.
Looks a lot like my Epiphone Casino. The main difference being the gold P-90s and fret placement at the neck. But they look very similar color and shape wise.
I own 2 Glarry Guitars a Glarry P bass and Glarry GTL Semi hollow Telecaster style guitar. I had the same issues with those. Same issues high action no fret sprouts on one guitar the natural finish same thing either glue or puddy that needed to get cleaned off before applying the finish. Needed to set it up myself bur mainly got them to do some modification on them. Since I got bored during the pandemic. They sound and play a lot better too.
I appreciate the honest review. I tried Glarry once, and stayed away because of the customer service and quality. I understood that it was going to be a fixer upper when I got the tele version, but the one I got the neck was twisted pretty badly, with a lot of uneven frets and fretsprout. Contacted Glarry about this and they only responded about once a day. They offered me to send it back with my own shipping and if it was deemed an issue they would send a replacement or refund the original price, I would eat the shipping it back. This was when they first appeared so I'm sure it changed since then but it left such a bitter taste that I never tried again.
Don't ever buy an inexpensive guitar you aren't willing to learn to work on. This is how you learn what you need to know, what it takes to be a guitarist.
that is a good challenge you gave them. I purchased one of their bass a few years ago.And had to do same to neck to get it play able too. After that I did upgrade on the pickups and electronics and bridge on it.
Hey Dan, great video & review. I have one of these, got it a while back. Mine is a "sun burst" and it came with a few issues. Tuners were fine, however I swapped them out for "vintage" ones to make it look a bit cooler. The pickups, yeah the pickups were pretty bad! They fed back, not a whole lot of boost or good tone. But I only spent 100.00 dollars brand new at the time. Put in a few upgrades, and had a VERY nice axe! Even at 179.00 dollars, I think it's well worth it for those who would like a 335 type of guitar? And if you're willing to do a few upgrades, you can have a pretty cool guitar in your collection...
Kind of Bland looking but sounds great. Yeah if you know that you are going to have to do some work on the guitar to make it play nice and can do the work yourself, which a fret level crown and polish isn't that hard to do it's mainly just time consuming. If that and some work on the nut is all that is needed I would say yes it is worth it. Thing is not all of their guitars may be even up to the standard of this one so it's still place your bets and if you are lucky for a relatively small price and some work you may come out with a really nice looking and sounding guitar.
This is very true. I’m sure there are other samples that are not as nice as this one, however I think the opposite rings true as well. I bet there are some that play decent enough out of the box as well.
That's a good looking guitar dan, there's something about natural finishes that look majestic to me. It's also a great value, even north of the border. However, wiring hollow bodies is difficult, even when I built my hollow body Tele, it was a learning curve. I routed a backplate to make my life easier.
@@GunsandGuitars natural wood under that kind of gloss with no kind of stain. it looks incomplete. my buddy had a Cozart tele like that with a red maple veneer and this thick gloss. we ended up sanding the gloss off and it looks way better
That's a good sized Alan-key for sure Dan... Like the color, I think Tortoise Binding would have looked good too,but thats just my thoughts... Looking at this Guitar got me thinking about the Community Buil,so am wandering if the Build is still happening or has it ended and I've missed the video? Great Review Dan... ✌😎👍
@@GunsandGuitars Cool as,sounds good looking forward to the next addition to the Community Build ...I love watching a Musical Instrument come together followed by the Demonstration from the Builder... As for the look 🤔thats already sorted by the Community, so its a, Win Win all round straightaway.. Thas just "MASSIVE" ✌😎👍
@@GunsandGuitars Oh. OK. I clicked on the link in the description (your link) 3 times, and it said no stock available, and Discontinued. I tried it via Google as well, but hey ho.
The problem I see is it would cost as much to get it playable by a skilled tech. Better off getting an Epiphone at this point. Or get Glarry to ship them without branding and one can set them up properly and sell them what they would then be worth. 600 to 700$.
@@GunsandGuitars Austin from Trogly's Guitar Show made a video on that model, it was so bad his feedback directly caused Glarry to cancel the model entirely instead of trying to fix it, as it would not have been cost effective to fix all the issues.
@@GunsandGuitars Yeah, Dan, it was pretty wonky out of the box. I left it in a case for about a year before I finally got to it last week or so. I had to raise all the saddles a good couple mm at least to get the strings off the fretboard, filed a bunch of fret ends, a lot of tweaking on the truss rod to get the neck straight, had to replace the pickups and the capacitor on the tone pot to get good tone... but its playing and sounding pretty good now. I'm still replacing that dinky trem block and the cheap tuners at some point, but I can live with it now. I mean, it was less than a hundred bucks. So for the money, it still wasn't a bad deal. But definitely way too much for beginners to address.
$179.00 for base guitar ... if you have to spend another $100.00 for a good set up it still could be a good deal. I paid more than that for my Epiphone Dot
Yeah Dan, if it's at all possible? Can you review Glarry's 4 string bass with the humbuckers? Comes in a bundle(bass, amp, gig bag, cable, etc)for around 160.00? Pretty cool looking, and I would REALLY like your opinion, "being a bass player & what-not? Give an honest review cause I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on getting one maybe? Thanks!
Nice looking guitar and great vid. My epiphone dot was just beheaded in an unfortunate accident and my repair isn’t great. :( Looking for a new 335 style guitar. Might check out the Glarry.
Cool guitar Dan... Kind of reminiscent of Beatles (Lennon's) Epiphone Casinos. A bit nicer looking though. I don't much like the dog eared humbuckers on the Casino. Humbuckers with a beauty-ring look 100% better. To me.
