Great video mate. Just started a late war British army myself (11th Armoured Division). Really enjoying painting and playing these compared to Warhammer and it's a great change. Furthermore, the fact you can pick up an entire army box set for £50-£60 compared to a patrol box set for £70-80 blows my mind and shows GWs greed really. Looking forward to the rest!

They can't do hordes like Soviets, but Indians do get a free 10 man Regular Squad and have Insane Bravery so their horde is also hard to break. My main two forces are Sihks from 8th Army and DAK 90th Light 155 Infantry Brigade, love North Africa, enjoy both sides using looted vehicles.

Don’t forget the Gentleman’s War starter set featuring British Desert Rats vs German Afrika Korps! A great starter set for two that is basically perfectly balanced as has everything you need! Plus if you decide to buy a second copy later you’ll have enough markers and order dice for two full sized armies and everything in that set is useful in duplicate since the infantry kits are very versatile and the armoured cars can be built multiple ways!

I'm a Brits player, and I really like the army. I enjoy dropping my arty observer to mass pin my opponent's bunched up dudes, then rolling in the Matilda CS and 25pdr to kill and pin further, and move up my reg infantry to clean up while my tank goes to kill something higher priority. I have severe difficulty rolling to wound so pinning has always been the name of the game for me. Brits have all the toys you could dream of if you want to make half your opponent's army refuse to move for a couple of turns. ...Enemy tank? Oh yeah, I think they had something like that but I kept my tank out of its line of sight and acted like it didn't exist and it was unable to do anything but fire its MMG on occasion. Tanks are useless when I kill and pin everything else my opponent brought to the table.

One thing the British have is their anti aircraft vehicles, they probably have the best selection over the US and USSR. They have the AA Cruiser tank and Skink. And with the Skink it can be down right frightful due to having 4 light autocannons and enclosed hull. Or a sort of better Wirblewind. Only down side is since it is an experimental vehicle it gets 2 pins instead of one so hitting it with a heavy howitzer you can pretty much pin it out if you roll enough pins for it 5 or 6 pins.

The Ghurkhas are the best close combat unit in the game, the M3 Stuart is the best tank for the points in the game, free artillery observer, multiple options for National special rules, the Brits are the probably the best faction in the game

The main problem with Ghurkas is if it's a "friendly" game- your opponent wont want to play against you again. Ghurka rules are slightly overdone in my opinion.

Just got the British paratrooper starter set for $60. Switching to this from 40k is quite refreshing, that starter set would've been A squad for 40k.

As a beginner to Bolt Action, I just bought the British Airborne Starter Army. I am a massive 40k fan, but I love alternate activation games and I saw bolt action being played at UKGE. When i did, I thought two things. Wow, this game looks fun. And wow, If i got those guys, I might be able to create my "British WW2 Imperial Guard Infantry Army" i've wanted since the 90's when i first saw Imperial Guard in a Games Workshop store. Fast forward to today, I'm sat waiting for my starter set to arrive in the post, and I'm excited to get it both reasons mentioned above. Enjoy following your channel Tim mate, it's nice to see stuff other than 40k in the wargaming world too. Cheers.

For South Africans you probably want to look at the 8th Army or Commonwealth infantry models because they come with extra bits to represent the variety of troops from the Empire. Well in the uk a bolt action army is about £300 at most with terrain and all whereas a 2k pts army for 40k cost me about £800 without even touching the paint and terrain (I play guard, so maybe a little skewed)

@@lukekrawiec3522 In Czech, 40k goes for lower than UK prices, but still expensive comparatively. BA though is almost double the price than in the UK. It is honestly ridiculous.

This was a great guide! I’ve been eyeing the starter sets for months, just bogged down on choosing who I want to jump in with. After a couple hours of watching your videos, you informed me well enough to make a half-educated decision, and I’m finally getting into it! I recently bought the Operation Sea Lion book and I love the variety of ad hoc units available for Great Britain. I think a home guard list is a fun idea, and of course no home guard list woukd be complete without the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard Platoon.

Semi-Related Question: I'm currently kitbashing some Grot Tanks with the World War Toons kits. My first one is the Soviet KV-2, because that thing is perfect for Grots. Which should I go with next? The Char, the Sherman/Stuart, or the Panzer II?

Free units are such bullshit in the game. I honestly don't know if I like the order dice mechanic because of how lopsided initiative is when you have a large amount of order dice which comes a lot easier to some factions than others.
