You look and feel ridiculous by painting out your face, but this was absolutely the BEST visual of the exact area in which to apply and that which to avoid I’ve ever seen!!! Thank you for this wonderful, informative and and helpful guide to trentinoin!!! No wonder my nose ,lips and chin are so extremely irritated and flakey! Much love,💋
This is the most instructional video I have watched. I'm a visual learner, and the visual of the sponge and the drawing on your face was great! Thanks!
watched this twice. and will save this. wow. gemma, you are my number 1 channel i watch. i always come away with great information. here's to glowing 74 yo skin. yippee skippee
I’ve been using tretinoin for 18 months and noticed a difference after about 5 months. From my experiences of problem areas I now apply my eye cream and lip balm first. Even avoiding the lips and eyes with the tretinoin it will seep in, so applying a moisturiser first seems to prevent the drying out I had been experiencing.
I have indeed, they are much better, I rarely need to use a concealer. Even with moisturiser on the eyes first a little tretinoin will seep up into the eye area but as long as your careful it will help smooth out the wrinkles. Have you watched “ hot and flashy” on you tube. She explains how tretinoin helps skin under the eyes.
You didn't look silly at all! What I really love is how you outlined your face while using that sponge analogy - you don't hear that anywhere and that is really surprising.
I started this with Dermatica 2 weeks ago, so far no side effects at all. I do use it on my brow bone as I have huge eye bags and it has already made a difference, so I look forward to other improvements to come and yes I use a factor 50+ every day. I am60 next Birthday so and really pleased to have found this company
1 month in on my Dermatica Journey 🧴 the red pen looked hilarious but totally gets home the message of the application areas. 💯Your ideas and education methods literally outshine any other influencer. This video is up there with your Brow, eyeliner Tutorials 💄💋
Woman, you did NOT look ridiculous you looked fantastically HELPFUL! I am putting my very first 2 pumps of Tretinoin on right now and I have your ‘Mickey’ pulled up on my iPad. I think I’ll be spending at least the next month watching and rewatching your videos on Tretinoin
I’m 55 and started using Tretinoin in February. I’ve slowly worked my way up to 0.1% and use every other day. My skin is looking fabulous! People don’t believe me when they learn that I’m 55. Soooo wish I would’ve started using Tretinoin years ago!!! I guess it’s better late then never! Great video....I love the way you explained it!🙂
Lisa Dearing I’m 37 and just starting. I too feel I just missed the mark a little...had I started 5 years ago I just never would have aged! LOL! Like you said though better late than never and I love comments and videos of women older than me getting amazing results beginning to use it in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s! Assures me that it’s worth it no matter when you start! I’ve even read comments from women in their 70’s who just started and say it’s doing wonders! So I mean, just glad to have discovered it really. I always just thought it was a gimmick like everything else. The fact that this isn’t common knowledge by now just blows my mind to be honest.
Sunshine Love thanks so much! Girl...if you’ve been using a Tretinoin since you were in your 20’s, I’m sure you look great! I too took a break over the summer but I’m back at it! Skin care is so important! I wish I would’ve realized it in my 20’s.
Timing is everything! I am in the US and I went to my dermatologist this morning. My Retin A prescription has been filled and I will begin using it this evening. The face map and the tips that you share will hopefully save me from excessive dryness and peeling. Excellent video!!!!! Take care.
You are so right, it takes PATIENCE!!! I've been using trentinoin for 18 months or so. I have very sensitive skin. I started by using the lowest strength 1 night a week and increased usage by 1 day every month. I also use the cerave pm facial lotion directly afterward. On the middle strength now. I was going to increase to the strongest but for no explainable reason, my face got irritated. (Had been using the middle strength every night for about 6 weeks)I have a bunch of travel over the next month, so will wait until November to try it. I do know that sometimes in winter, you have to stop trying to increase it. In cold climates, sometimes that happens. Also, if your skin just out of the blue becomes irritated, try using a very soothing serum in the AM. I used Bobbi Brown extra repair serum ( I had some left over in my cabinet and thought it couldn't hurt) and it really helped me. This is just my experience, hope it helps someone.
Gemma you are absolutely the most knowledgeable, well-informed beauty/skin expert on You Tube ! I've learned so much from your videos. I started using Retinoid, Vitamin C and The Buffet from The Ordinary one month ago and it has changed my skin completely. Saw the Dermatologist today when she heard about my routine she asked me if I wanted a prescription for Retin A. I'm 68 and according to her I have very, very good skin. Going to try Retin A tomorrow. You have given me more information about this product than the doctor did. Thank you for all your hard work. So very much appreciated !
I'm using A313 Vitamin A pommade which is a French brand on Amazon. Absolutely brilliant stuff - I've literally used it for one week so far and already the difference is very noticeable and I am truly amazed. It's cleared up pigmentation from spots and my skin is glowing at 44 years of age! French pharmacy brands are excellent. I've had no irritation whatsoever when used in conjuction with Embryolisse moisturising cream. I've been so impressed I have also purchased Ialuset cream which is a hyluronic acid cream as I've read good reviews on it and am excited to try this also. I really rate the A313 pommade.
I have been using The Ordinary's Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion for over two years now and have experience great success. So, I have been thinking about trying Tretinoin, mainly for the anti-aging benefits. Thank you for all this fantastic information... which I'm confident is better than anything a dermatologist would suggest!
I've been using it for nearly 3 years. I used the 0.1% for 18 months but the peeling was horrendous and never really got any better so I've dropped back to the 0.05%. It has changed my skin so much and I will never be without it. X
I'm 66, and have been using tretinoin for five years. I started with the lowest strength, then moved to .05 after two years, and am about to start the highest strength this week. This stuff is no joke! Trust me! Just like with sex, you will never regret going slow. It's when we rush into anything that we have our biggest regrets. Good luck!
Gemma, hearing you say naught made me think of my Father. His generation used that word all the time for zero. It’s rarely used in the U.S. anymore. I’m sure a lot of people never heard of the word. I had to listen carefully to hear how many zeros. I not only had a lesson in beauty products I’m not really familiar with, but I had a pleasant picture of my Dad helping me with arithmetic (that’s not used either anymore) and saying naught. Nice way to end my day. Your a gem 💎.
I should have learnt my lesson from my Dermarolling video....I had so many questions about the word nought. 🤣 I'll write it on a post it next time "ZERO" xxx
Finally someone who knows the right way to apply retinoids! I was cringing watch other video of people putting over their eyes and on the entire face. 😬😬😬
I use Tretinoin 1% on top of which I use Eucerin urea 5% moisturiser on top this considerably helps stop red dry skin and peeling I started with dermatica 0.25% moved up to 0.5% then to 1% I have been using this for 1 year and its made a massive difference people ask me what I use on my skin all the time I love Tretinoin you can manage the prescriptions yourself in terms of frequency I get mine every 32nd day
I'm blessed with non sensitive skin and started .05 Tretinoin about 5 weeks ago. I started slowly but quickly got to nightly. If my skin feels slightly irritated or I see flaking, I skip a night. But you have to know your skin and I did a ton of research first to know the do's and don't's.
Thank you for drawing a line of where you apply Trentinoin, I am starting treatment soon and will be trying your method too avoid sensitive areas/ excessive drying!
i absolutely agreed with you with age! i never had any issue with my skin until i turned 25 years old and i’m now 26 turning 27 within the next 2 months & wow. my skin has change so much makes me very sad but at the same time i’m trying my best to find product that will work along with my skin :)
Hi Gemma, I totally agree with everything you said except for the part about using Retin-A on the neck. I have used a .025 strength for the past 6 years and my neck skin has improved dramatically. Skin is skin. The problem is that the neck can be very sensitive and I believe some suppliers want to avoid having people have adverse reactions on the neck so they don't recommend it. You can get the same results on the neck as on the face as long as you can tolerate it and go even slower than on the face.
Susanne - RangerMommy Thanks for the info! Have been wondering about using it on the neck. So many people say not to. Glad to hear it’s been okay for you.
I use tretinoin (0.05%) on my face then the retinol 1% in squalene from the ordinary on my neck as it’s much weaker. Eventually I plan on trying the “real stuff” on my neck too though once my skin has adjusted (just started). I agree, skin is skin so why not? If I react poorly to it I’ll just go back and stick to the mild stuff but either way my neck is getting some form of Retinol! Lol
I do the same. I use .05 on my face and chest and .025 on my neck. Have been doing this for years with no issues. I don’t feel the need to use the stronger .1% as I have great results with .05
Me too, I use it on my neck and then when it's dry I put Eucerin night cream on top my neck is not crepey and I feel its been beneficial the only place I don't use tret at the sides of my mouth and eye area
Gemma, that was awesome! I'd been doing some things wrong, and am so glad you did this. The red pen on your face was perfect - it was an excellent visual. I really appreciate you.
So grateful for you!! I’m from the Uk and knocking on the 40 door next year and this is a dream video. Everything you said is so true If you’re from the uk. I’ve been using Paula’s choice 1% for years now so this sounds perfect for my next step. Heading over to the site now to look into, just wanted to post that you’ve turned into my favourite to watch on here, don’t ever leave!! 😂 x
Omg! This was so helpful! I’ve need using Dermatica for over 8 months and am still only up to every couple days. I will say following application with Cerave night has helped a lot! Still get a little flaking on my chin 2 days after application so I’ve started to avoid my chin or applying near but not ON my chin has greatly reduced flaking. I wish this “avoid these areas” face map was provided when I first started! Thank you soo much!
Great video and timely too. I’m 41 and Ive just started Obaji Tret 0.05% just once a week at the moment with a small buffer of moisturiser. I’ve used retinol for some time now so I think my skins become used to actives but I definitely have some redness and peeling but slow and steady wins the race! 🤞🏻
ShadyPinesMa79 Hey thanks for asking. I’m using it 4 times a week roughly, I’m still peeling but applying moisturiser 15 minutes after is helping but I can honestly say it’s worth it. If I use it on consecutive days then my skin becomes angry and irritated. Are you on tret or considering it?
@@SammyG949 thanks for your reply :) I just started it 2 weeks ago and started getting some mild purging but no peeling at all. My skin type is very oily so that probably helps a bit. I figure now is the time to start while still social distancing and working from home.
I have used 0.1% tretinoin for more than 30 years and you would have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands. I started as a treatment for adult hormonal acne but when the anti-aging benefits became noticable I just continued on with the blessing of my Dermatologist. I do use it on my neck but I apply a moisturizer before the tretinoin. It is NOT true that you cannot apply to the neck!!! You may have a bit of flaking at first as the dead skin cells are sloughed off but DONT STOP/DONT Take a break! If you stop, you will go through the process all over again. If you are having some flaking you can use a very soft baby washcloth with a very gentle cleanser and gently rub off the flakes. Just keep going. It wont flake forever.
Most Dermatologists and Aetheticians tell their clients NOT to apply Tretinoin to their neck, and therefore I have to pass this info on to the Pampered Wolf Pack as it would be irresponsible not to. The Company who makes the Tretinoin I use also says NOT to apply it to the neck. Obviously if it works for you that's great, but I have to pass on the knowledge xxx
Yes! I agree not everyone should use it on the neck but it's a case by case basis. Luckily it's ok on mine, because I have sun damage and at 44 I need a miracle lol. I also use cerave moisturizer about half hour after I apply, before bed, and that really hydrates.
We have in the U.S. Renova which is .05% with an emollient in it to reduce irritation, its easier for the skin to tolerate. My doctor had me use it a few times a week at first. I started with .025% then moved up to the Renova. After many many years I now use .01%. My doctor also said that in the beginning for the first 2 weeks expect your skin to be red, irritated, and peeling. Your video is great!
Excellent! Really helpful even though I've been using it for years! My tip- once you get established, just stay on it! It's such a giant pain to start over!xx
Im 44 live in LA and go to Mexico once a month to see an ortho and recently noticed my skin changing, remembered hearing of RetinA went to a pharmacy there and picked up a tube of .05%, it was only 25 bucks! excited and scared to see how my skin reacts.🤞
Heads up folks! She is 100% right about not applying in this zone. Oh. My. Gawd. I watched this video a few weeks back when I was looking into starting a Retinol or retinoid treatment. I forgot the target zone you mentioned to apply/not apply last night when I tried my first retinoids (The Ordinary’s ‘Granactive’ retinoid 2% emulsion). I definitely made the mistake of applying wayyyy too close to the corners of my mouth. And within an hour or so the INSIDE of my mouth’s “skin” (not sure if the fleshy inside of your mouth is actually considered skin) became super dry. It felt very much like a dry cotton texture or how it feels after having a cut or sore in your mouth. This stuff really does permeate your skin and goes deep into it like a sponge. Thank you for sharing I will DEFINITELY never apply within this zone again. FYI I’m totally fine. It just feels gross on the inside corners of my mouth. Lesson learned!
Hi Gemma! I have been into skin care since I was 16yrs old and I am now 68, so I do really appreciate your video. It is very informative, and helped me to understand my misuse of tretinoin cream...which may have increased crepiness in my neck area! Looking into The Ordinary products you mention so often and the CurrentBody Skin LED Neck and Deck Perfector that you did a video for!
@@kimdebrito8668 Dermatica is around £20 a month and you can get a up to 0.1% tretinoin im sure. The only difference may be how much you are getting as dermatica is only a months worth of product, though it does sound like it would work out cheaper for you :)
I'm in my first month of using the company here in the U.S. called Curology, sounds a whole lot like Dermatica. Great tips! Luckily no irritation yet. My cocktail that they prescribed for me is Niacinamide 4%, Tretinoin 0.01%, & Azelaic Acid 2%. Thanks for all the tips!
I just started with Curology as well. I'm prescribed Tretinoin 0.02%, Niacinamide 4%, and Tranexamic Acid 1%. I am getting my next shipment on 11/6! Fingers crossed for good results to all!
Thank you Gemma. Your videos are always full of good information. Know I know why your skin is looking so much clear and even in color and texture. Great video!
This video on tretinoin was excellent! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I can’t wait for your next video when you’ll share your morning and evening routine along with using tretinoin. 👍🏻❤️
You are definitely gold standard! 🥇I have just signed up for dermatica & applied Trenoin 0.025 for the 1st time. Thrilled to see your video. You may think you look daft with the red line over your face, however, it's a fantastic visual. Keep on doing what you're doing. From Helen in The Scottish Borders x
Brilliant I’ve been using tretinoin since last month on your recommendation and yes have been applying it incorrectly, thank you so much I feel so confident now. 🥰
I use 12% glycolic acid from Alpha Skin Care on my face in the daytime. And I use my 0.1% Tretinoin on my face at night. Immediately after cleansing my face with my CeraVe facial cleanser and pat dry, I put on my Retin-A immediately because with the damp skin it absorbs more quickly and right after that I apply either my Olay Regenerist micro-sculpting cream (fragrance free) or my CeraVe night cream which I do use immediately on my eyelids and under my eyes as well as everywhere else on my face, it is fragrance-free. I think I actually like the CeraVe night cream better. Alpha skin care also makes a 12% glycolic acid lotion for the body to help with the creepiness of the skin. It really does work. And yes you absolutely positively have to use a sunscreen if you use Retin-A or glycolic acid.
Are u by chance a teacher?? If not, you should be! Yours is absolutely the best instructional video on starting tretinoin I have yet to see..sure wish I'd watched your channel in the beginning of my tretinoin journey!! GREAT JOB!!
Great information and I am looking forward to your complete current evening and morning skin care routine. Thanks again for the great and useful information.
I LOVE this video!! 👍 You are so good in explaining and not afraid to talk about the side effects. I’m 44years old and I’m sooo happy that i found your channel and i have shared it with many of my friends and they are also obsessed. You have your own little fan group in Norway 🇳🇴 👍🙂 Thank you for doing such a good job and always being honest, i feel that i can trust you 100%, i wouldn’t do that with other channels.
THANK YOU for making this detailed video. I just got a script for tretinoin and ZERO instructions on how to use it from the dermatologist. After watching your video I can see that I've been doing it all wrong. I was using way too much, putting the extra on my neck... My face isn't flaking and falling off yet. *fingers crossed* Hopefully some heavy moisturizer will save me. Also, explaining how using a small amount will absorb and spread out explains how "using a pea size amount" would work. I couldn't wrap my brain around how I was only supposed to use a tiny amount to cover my face. Thanks again!
So informative!! I will begin the Tretinoin journey when summer ends here in Georgia. I was told by my dermatologist not to begin Tretinoin in the summer. I think this is smart because this Georgia sun has been so intense this year. I loved that you showed us where to apply the cream by drawing on your face...SMART! I have saved this video and will watch it again when I begin my journey. 😊 Hugs
I think you guys are missing the point here. While it is most definitely fine to use tretinoin any time of the year, I’m pretty sure OP’s derm has only advised her against using during the summer just as a general precaution in order to minimize the side effects AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Sort of like a “just in case” type of precaution, yknow?
Absolutely loved this review! Now I know why I got so much irritation around the mouth! ! We have all pretty much heard that you are supposed to avoid the eyes and lips but your representation was the best tip I've heard, and I've seen a lot of tretinoin videos! Great job all around
Absolutely brilliant video. SO informative, SO comprehensive. You explain everything so thoroughly. You're a star, thanks so much. Love and hugs from Wales xxxx
Thanks Gemma!! So very very useful!, I just ordered mine yesterday!. I’d been watching some make up influencers in the US who also use it and I hadn’t heard of it. Of course I didn’t know how to get it here and thought it would be a ridiculous price!. Thanks so much for stating where we can get our hands in it here. I’m looking forward to starting mine alongside my NuFACE mini and led sensse mask. X❤
Been using skin + me tretinoin and couldn’t work out why the only irritation I was getting was around the edges of my nose! Love how informative this video was!
Just to be clear. Here in US there isn’t a dermatologist on every corner unless u live in LA or NYC. It is not a product that is covered by health insurance so will not be inexpensive. That being said I have used prescription product for years and skin looks great
I am in US and have gotten it for 20 years. It is prescribed by a GP for acne, don't say wrinkles, and is covered by almost any insurance Ive had many insurances for years. My co pay is $5 or $10. whoo hoo!!!
Wow what a video, thank you so much! I am on my second month with Dermatica & Tretinoin and you are the first person I've come across who has made it completely clear what I need to do, and how I'm to use it. Thank you!
I’m in my fourth month and the lightening of my dark spots is incredible. But now I know why my “T zone” is peeling so nastily!!!! I should have watched this video first....
Absolute best informative vid without pushing any products.. every minute full of valuable information.. no rambling.. thank you so much.. ❤️ ... New sub :)
Everyone who is new to using Tretinoin should watch this video. I was getting the same reactions around my mouth. Also I was unaware that I shouldn’t use it on my neck. I was just going to email Dermatica to ask what should I do but this video has answered all my questions. Thanks for the video👍🏻🥰
Another fab, informative video! I started using dermatica a couple of weeks ago and have had no problems with it so far. Watching your video has given me some very helpful tips so thank you! 😁
GREAT analogy about "the instruction manual". Used a retinol for about 6 months before I could begin using Retin A, and I used it every other night at the very first. It is hard to not rush. You give such clarity ! Thank you
I love this kind off videos you do. Makeup is super fun but if the skin does not look good under the makeup the makeup wont look its best. Other makeup gurus talks about skincare too but mostly about creames. You are the first one who really goes into depth in what a good skincare routine is. Thanks to you I have a good routine with The Ordinary and have stoped using expencive creames that did not work anyway. I am super exited about this tretinoing and will check it out more from your link.
Here in the US we have Curology as well. I started on .01% daily with a rich moisturizer before. Within a month I moved up to .02% and have been doing that nightly for 2 months. My skin reacts best if use Clinique Intensive moisture from the moisture surge line right after I wash and dry my skin. This allows the moisturizer to soak in deeper and faster. About 5 minutes later, I add my Curology cream and I have had no issues with irritation. Before I put the moisturizer on first, I had to wait about 3 days 2 weeks apart to clear up irritation. I also tried 5 different moisturizers, including Cerave PM, and all irritated my skin after a couple of days even though I was using a very gentle cleanser. I finally tried the Clinique line, and none of those of the moisture surge line irritate me. I was told to use my lower strength at this point on my neck to help with hyperpigmentation and scarring. Once I get to a level that my neck skin gets irritated, I am to stop using it there and we are hoping that the hyperpigmentation will be faded or gone.
Amazing Video Gemma so informative have just started my journey with this product 3 weeks in and have learned even more from your video , you are the best ❤️
I'm so glad to finally have found a RU-vidr with such great content but with products that we can actually get here in the UK. All I've come across are people from the US, so this is a great find for me! Thank you.
This is fantastic information! I haven't started using a tretinoin yet - currently using a Vit C serum - but have wanted to add tretinoin for PM routine. Sooooo glad I watched this vid! Great info and will feel more confident adding this in the near future.
I’ve just started tretinoin, I literally typed in ‘tretinoin’ into the search box and saw you just posted this! I managed to buy mine on holiday in Greece. So interested to hear what you say!
A little hack.. ask your doc to write the script for acne. Show a pimple and bar your eyes. My cost difference is 150 a tube vs $3 a tube for 3 months supply
Hi Gemma..love your videos! From Las Vegas, NV. Currently just started tretinoin .01% in my curology custom mix cream..love it. It has not bothered me at all w this strength and I’ll be increasing my strength in my next bottle.
I use tretinoin from Dermatica and it is great. My skin is baby soft, the colour is much more even and I look less tired because my skin looks fresh. I have had minimal flaking but if it does occur, it will generally be on the end of my nose or just under my mouth. I deal with this by putting a plain unscented moisturiser around eyes, end of nose and around my mouth, then I put the tret on the rest of my face.
I’m so glad I watched this! I’ve been using trentinoin from Curology for a little over a month and have been experiencing some dry skin around my nose and lips. Now I know why! Thank you for such an informative video. I’m now a subscriber!
I"ve often wondered why so many RU-vidrs would continually run around with itchy, flakey skin, thinking this was progress in the condition of their skin. I personally have chosen retinaldehyde for my vitamin A source and am very happy with the texture, moisture level and barrier function of my skin. Been on it for 2 years. Am 75 yo.
This is the first video, in dozens I’ve seen on Trentoina, that has been this thorough in explanation. I almost didn’t watch as I’ve seen so many. For example, no one has ever said ‘Why’ not to use it on the eye area or neck. They’ve said only not to. You have a new subscriber and fan 😃
Great video. Looking forward to seeing how you incorporate the Tretinoin into your full skin care routine. I have been using Curology for the past 2 months & noticed a significant change but I am interested in switching to: The Ordinary products & now the tretinoin from Dermatica thanks to watching many of your skin care routines. The price point is hard to beat! Thank you for ALL your information.
This has been the most helpful video on Tretinion I have come across. I wish I had known about the neck years ago when I started my journey. My neck looks worse than it ever did. I have had irritation so many times that I stop using it for months then start back up. I have been using it only once a week for the past year or so and no irritation but once I try to go to 2 nights a week, the flaking and peeling start.
