The bowl is pretty cool imo. Sometimes you've got to cater to your little buddy's circumstances and the bowl looks quite comfortable for a blind betta.

Yeah I had a betta who developed tumors early on (still survived over a year tho! Didn’t even get bad symptoms from them besides raggedy fins until the last few weeks) He was in a 5 gallon and when he went blind, about 1.5 months before he passed, it became a whole ass thing getting him to eat even though he WAS hungry and searching for it (he knew my presence means food half the time) After under a week of him barely eating because of his sight, I switched him to a smaller tank (literally one of those plastic critter keepers) and because of that he was finally eating as much as he was supposed to, therefore not suffering more than he needed to

the bowl isn't even small, it looks like a 5 gallon at least. tbh people go way overboard on betta rules. Garanteed a betta would be super happy in this bowl with the great set up it has to a blank or plastic decore 10 gallon tank.

Agree. And about the filter…the plants and deep substrate are the filter. bettas don’t like to be pushed around, especially if they’re disabled. I know my betta tanks are set at the lowest flow setting and my boys are quite healthy. Bravo to anyone caring for a blind betta❤

I mean part of that is the rubber band effect. People treated betta fish like decorations rather than pets for a really long time, so I’m quite happy to see the pendulum swing the other way for once.

Definitely not. The US is super behind on animal husbandry requirements already, so what we consider even in the animal keeping hobbyist community of US as the bare minimum is small and not that great. also in general the idea that the 'bare minimum size enclosure' in a country = 'the size you should aim for and keep them in and they'll thrive in' is not really based in animal science. so tbh, people going 'overboard' are just people for once thinking more about the fish's happiness than "what's the smallest square inches of desk space i can use to make another living creature's entire world?"

For curly/wavy hair the trick is you avoid washing it when it doesn't absolutely need it and you use a high protein shampoo/conditioner. Basically most shampoo/conditioner on the market are terrible for curly hair. When showering focus shampoo on the roots and conditioner on the rest, especially the tips. Switching pillowcases to silk (or satin) also protects from breakage. Don't bother with a basic comb/brush as it makes the hair worse if dry. Instead they make brushes designed for curly hair. It's more in depth than that but basically the way everyone is taught to treat hair is with the assumption of fine/straight hair. Any deviation from that requires different care and often times even the opposite.

Favourite non-fish thing in my tank... Hmmm... that's a tough one. Maybe the boot with the hole in it? The empty beer can? The rusty pistol? Oh, I know! It's the discarded tire! That's it for sure! All of these are in my authentically scaped Mississippi River tank. The old broken bottle and the rusty fish hooks with the tangled wad of monofilament fish line is a pretty good touch too.

Hair Tips: Honestly with wavy hair it's not really too difficult to style it on the go without much effort. I suggest a wider tooth comb - a fine tooth comb might make it very fluffy if you use it while dry - and maybe a light mousse if you want to give it extra body or bounce. An easy and quick way to style yoir hair would be to do it after drying it a bit right out of the shower, applying about a quarter dollop of mousse - particularly to the ends - and then just combing it neatly. The mousse will help set it for the day and it doesn't take much time or effort. If you want to go for an even more styled look a round brush is a great option for building body but they can be a little temperamental to use at first so the first few attempts might leave a lot to be desired. With all that being said I'm black and have 4C type curls so my definition of quick and easy might not be the same considering you admit you don't even bother doing anything with yours even now. 💀 If you were just joking about wanting the hair tips....well too bad because I took you seriously and if you got to this point you have the recommendation anyway. 😐

My favorite non-fish thing in my tank would probably be the natural quartz rocks I dug up from my fathers property-in the right lighting they look like mini mountains, and my baby platy (named Whopper Mc Jr) she loves to play around them! She lives in a 20 gal with her parents, three Cory’s, and a few tetras. I’m setting up a 20 long for the tetras to have for themselves.

I absolutely love those potted tanks that look like gardens, and that betta one was no exception. It was gorgeous! And then I got to the ribbed newt and betta and died inside. :( I have four Spanish ribbed newts (you featured one of them, Meatloaf, on one of your shorts once!) and there's sooo much wrong with that photo. 1. Ribbed newts need cold water, like axolotls. Bettas obviously need warm water. Either that newt is too hot, or the betta is freezing its poor butt off. 2. Also like axolotls, ribbed newts can't have gravel because they're stupid and they get really excited when it's feeding time. There's a risk of them swallowing gravel, which can lead to impaction and seriously hurt them. 3. That poor newt looks really skinny... 4. Did I mention newts are stupid and hungry? Anything you put in a tank in it that's small enough to be eaten...will likely be eaten, or at least the newt will try! QotW: Do my newts count? Lol

Ceramics can be glazed with colors that contain lead, nickel, and COPPER. Copper is bad for your inverts and if it can leech into your food from some bowls you gotta be very careful with them in water. Generally I would consider something that's dishwasher safe with no cracks is probably ok, definitely safer than something with multiple cracks/chips. My grandma had her own ceramic studio where she did classes so I've picked up this very basic little tidbit from a (mostly) trustworthy source

My favorite non-fish thing in my tank is the food web. The biodiversity of it all amazes me every day. Never gonna keep fish without a food web ever again. The natural behavior of the fish hunting and breeding so effortlessly just hits different. I’m in the hobby since upwards of 12 years now. I’m only utilizing the 'food web method' since 3 years. It’s never been easier keeping fish healthy and their tanks clean ever before.
@eliotb.1219
@eliotb.1219 6 месяцев назад
I’ve never heard of this and I’ve done a lotttt of casual research on keeping aquariums, but I checked it out after reading your comment. Honestly my only concern is putting something harmful in one of my tanks that would kill my fish, like parasites for example. Was wondering what you have to say about that, or if it’s not a good idea to add to a tank that already has fish?
@leanderfoldy9293
@leanderfoldy9293 6 месяцев назад
@@eliotb.1219yeah, that was my concern too. There are very few parasites and pests that you need to be concerned about. One being the dragonfly larvae because it feeds on your fish (especially fry) and planarian worms, if you have shrimp. There are a few more but the good news is that you can see any one of those with the unaided eye, so that’s good. If your concerns are about bringing in some kind of illness that could harm your fish… well. It’s a hard to swallow pill but there’s more sickness in any given single aquarium shop than there is in all of nature and there’s a real simple reason for it. It’s biodiversity. Granted, you’re gonna find the same pathogens in nature that you will find in aquarium shops or home aquaria, but in nature they won’t break out because they are being kept in check by the vastness of the biodiversity that is constituted of hundreds, if not thousands of beneficial microorganisms. Only when you have a monoculture or even trio-culture (I just made that term up) of any nitrifying bacteria do pathogens have the chance to propagate in a manner that’s harmful for your fish because there is nothing to keep 'em in check. Speaking from years of experience in scuba diving, I’ve never ever seen a sick fish (or a sick reef) out in the wild. It’s either teaming with life, or it’s dead but there’s pretty much nothing in between. The way pathogens spread, I should have seen at least one sick fish or one sick school of fish but I haven’t. This is because biodiversity keeps pathogens in check. I’ll promise you a few things now. When establishing a food web with all the trophic levels of micro-life in it you will: -NEVER need any kind of medication -you will have to feed less than before -you will have to use less fertilizer, if any -the breakdown of organics like leaves will raise co2 levels in your tank naturally -you won’t have ANY visible algae, in case you have adequate light and nutrient amounts for the tank, while there will be dozens of different species of algae. Not one being able to break out, and any one of those is keeping another in check -decrease maintenance and water changes -and much more depending on your setup. There’s nothing to worry about, as long as the water body that you get your samples from is healthy itself and biodiverse. It will improve your experience tremendously, bring great joy to your hobby, and ensures healthy, long living fish! I wish you great success and always have fun (:

One curly hair cream (i like the brand not your mother) when u dry ur hair. i would reccomend a good high protien shampoo and conditioner (seperate if possible) and a big tooth comb or a wavy hair detangler brush. Brush ur hair when it is moist/straight out of the shower and just brush through with fingers. And let it dry with ur curl cream on. Do a full shower maybe 2 times a week .

All of my Candy Cane Tetras died this weekend. Had 10 of them in a 29 gallon with 12 Rummynose for a month now. Slight signs of ich, so I did a water change and added salt. I wonder if it's because I hadn't vacuumed the gravel yet and I had added a lot of food for cycling over a long time. Maybe I stirred up contaminants they couldn't deal with. One or two at a time, they started swimming weird and then quickly died while the rest looked fine until it hit them. The Rummynose seem ok.

@cathyhendrix7552 6 месяцев назад
@@jacksonbutler1828 And here we go. It took a little longer than I thought it would though. BETAS WILL BE FINE IN 3 GALLONS of water. Whether a tank or a large bowl. Floor space??? This is the first time I've heard of this one. LMBO. Betas might go down to the height of a plant to sleep on a leaf, but I've never seen one swimming around on the floor. They swim mid-tank to top-tank. And I've had a few betas at a time for the last 13 yrs. And yes, they were in seperate tanks and bowls. And while this does not make me an expert,...it does make me an experienced beta keeper. I've had some that were happy in a 5 gallon tank and then some that freaked out in a 5 gallon tank.. So I put the unhappy ones in a 3 gallon bowl and they calmed down and were happy.. Most even lived longer than the ones in the 5 gallon tank. Most. But not all. Everyone's experiences are different, but that doesn't mean that they are wrong. Remember that please.

Do snails count as non-fish things? Because if so, they're definitely my favorite. The whole reason I got into aquariums abd fish keeping was for snails actually. It's a long story but I ended up with 4 mystery snails and had to set up a 10 gallon tank for them, and ever since then I've always had at least one mystery snail under my roof. i cant place bottom plants on my tank because only one store sells them near me and they are extremely EXPENSIVE, but floating plants are cheap so yesterday and today i remake my 2 betta tanks and fill it with salvinia minina an pothos EVERYWHERE, 0 toxins registered with only those plants, firts 10 hours my betta was like "WHERE IS MY HOUSE *proceds to glass surfing*" but right now and a few hours before he was exploring more relaxed, that boi really likes roots and surfaces near the top i may remove a big rock that i place on the middle because i think that takes a lot of swimming space and total water, i still have woods on then sides like "giant roots" spreading across everywhere so he dont get bored of not having stuff in the tank

Beautiful Brachirus harmandi (basic info: live in Laos, Thailand, grow to around 10 cm, love water changes and parameters ~ pH 6,0 - 7,0 , temperature around 23 - 27°C). Looks like happy one, because it have quite some space to mess around and bury itself. I would say that's a great work 👍

it's a fresh water dwarf sole fish, I had them many years ago, they were the coolest fish I've had, like over 30 yrs ago and I have never seen them again since and have always wanted them, I'd literally pay astronomical amounts to get them again if I ever saw them.

Fishtank update: so unfortunately I lost my nerite that I’ve had for almost a year/around a year. This is the one who ate through part of the betta leaf on several occasions to get the algae off of it and survived. When I make sure the tank is ok again, I will replace him with a stone/anchor catfish. I’ve loved those little guys for a while but never thought I could have them in my tanks. My coworker who’s fishkeeping knowledge far surpasses my own said my betta tank is perfectly fine for two of the little guys. Esp since the betta is disabled and the tank is heavily planted. Qotw: fav non fish thing in my tanks is either my massive Java ferns (crested and non crested). I also adored my little nerite snail who was a little beast in his own right

If you want it to dry straight, or a little wavy, you can try brushing dry with the help of blow-dry or towel maybe. To dry curly with a specific curl pattern you can twirl while wet, or kinda tease it around (sounds dirty) or use products like curling mousse . Shampoo the scalp, condition the ends. If particularly dry, condition liberally. I always let my conditioner sit for a bit. Products do matter, maybe consult a barber or cosmetologist. Product are inherently important for frizz and poof control as well. A few tips to combat the frizz and poof are serums and oils safe to leave in. A little goes a long ways, focus on the ends of the hair where driest, and brush through for even coverage. If you don't have the resources, a little bit of lotion works as well.

People do consider a betta fish in a nano tank to be a good introduction into the hobby, but a female betta in a planted tank of around 10 gallons is just 👌 And I think the goldfish might be in the guppy tank for population control That dragonfly nymph entered the WRONG tank! XD Any nano fish would’ve been easy prey but pea puffers don’t mess around!
