Marcus shows you how the paid version of A Better Routeplanner works in his Volkswagen ID.3 with the EVNotify app. Find out if it is worth getting the paid version of ABRP for your electric vehicle.
Marcus travels to the first Ionity charger in Portugal to test out ABRP in his VWID3.

Great stuff Marcus. ABRP is very useful indeed and not a bad monthly price. Especially when Tesla owners pay, I think, £9.99 per month to have access to live data on their maps.
@marcusevjourney566

The 9.99€ a month for Tesla is something I forgot. Yes, I guess 5€ is more competitive. Do you know if Tesla currently shows none Tesla chargers?

@@marcusevjourney566 It seems they have started to show third party chargers now but I believe in Europe only at this stage.

The application is really good for planning, however when using ABRP to travel from Calais to Switzerland the app died as we were driving around Bruxelles leaving us with no navigation. We also encountered very odd Audi messages (turn right instead of left), leave Motorway to Motorway (no to A road) etc. The map shows the correct route but you need to keep your eyes on it… It does however provide you with a full set of proposals for en route charging stations and its guesstimates are pretty good.

The app is fantastic, it just needs some fixes to be perfect 👍

I’m not sure if people are that concerned about the charge percentage. The late adopters want to know if they can make it to the destination and that’s it. I’m not constantly glazing at my gas rant needle to check how empty it is, but it is nice that it tells me that I can still drive for another some kilometres, so I can check if I have to refuel on the way. In an EV, I only want that the navigation tells me if I can make it to the destination and if not, where I am supposed to charge and how long. The same is on charging speed. Who cares if it’s 49 or 60 kW, if you drive like mad the higher charging power will give you less range per waiting minute than the lower one if you drive less aggressively. But those are only my thoughts.

It would have been useful if you had mentioned how to setup the initial ABRP configuration re the car and preferences.

I have the same problem. With Apple car play on the ID3, i have access to Google maps (the one that I use the most - eventhough the google 3D Map is unavailable in the Id3 Pad), but simply can´t put the BRP in.

Hi Marcus, does Waze work in Portugal. I usually use it on IOS it’s pretty good, I don’t have ev yet. I have a Kia self charging.

Yes Waze does work in Portugal, I think it works everywhere as it is owned by Google.

Thanks for the information, Marcus. Did I get that correctly, the battery percentage is a readout of the OBD dongle and is transmitted to ABRP via EV Notify on an Android phone? 🤔
@marcusevjourney566
@marcusevjourney566 3 года назад
Yes, that is correct. EVNotify then communicates to ABRP via the Internet. It is a bit OTT.

Have you tried using TRONITY instead of evnotify and an odb dongle? Less hassle and cheaper if it works.

@@marcusevjourney566 I installed Tronity - I think I saw it mentioned on Chris´ channel and it works - it has limited functionality as of yet like SOC - but perhaps that is enough for ABRP to work well. I saw that it can be used on ABRP´s forum anyway. I don't have a pro sub for a ABRP any more or I would try it myself (we don't drive very far these days so it's pointless for us).

Could you read the OBD2 on the iPhone at the same time? So you don’t have two phones?
@marcusevjourney566
@marcusevjourney566 3 года назад
I can read from the OBD2 from my iPhone but EVNotify does not support the iPhone yet for the ID.3. ABRP does not support Android Auto yet. So in the near future it should be possible just with one iPhone or one Android phone.

Have a look at Skoda Enyaq: 1000€ more for just a navigation and a 13 inch instead of a 10 inch screen It is useless - we will not get that cause for 600€ I will get a Samsung TAB 7S Pro+ and I will have 13 inch screen too with a square map on the left and no the right the EV Notify App both in one display. But might be worth to check how the basic infotainment system supports andriod auto and its apps
@marcusevjourney566
@marcusevjourney566 3 года назад
The VW eUp allowing you just to use your own phone as the info screen was a great idea. It should be done in more cars but with the holder for tablet or phone. ABRP only currently works with Apple CarPlay. The Android Auto version is still in Beta and is currently not available to the general public. I guess it will be available soon.

A car of more than 40.000 euros should have all this shit standard !!!
@rj7855
@rj7855 3 года назад
Navigation is standard, android auto&apple car play are standard and you can see the battery percentage. You may dislike that VW decided to hide the % (it does show on the dash when below 10%) but it's there. BTW the latest version of the standard navigation is pretty good, it recalculates charging stops depending on actual usage and you can easily add/remove/reorder waypoints, something Tesla's build in nav can't. As for the price, if you can't buy one under 40.000€ you should blame your local (judging by your name the Netherlands) tax or dealers. I can buy one here in Spain for 32.000€ (though I have opted for a higher trim level for 39.000€ minus 7000€ government incentives)

Direct answer NO . It doesn’t integrate with Apple Watch, yet it claims to do so for subscribers . Sat Nav routing is slow, clunky and voice directions are too late , insufficient, robotic. Unsubscribed after 3 trips.
