Just the way I learned to do it fifty years ago and have done it since. No matter how many gadgets you have some times you just need to know how to roll a ball of yarn.
I used to always start with the yarn in a figure 8 with my thumb, wrap and fold over itself, then wind around my finger tips as the ball gets bigger. Now I prefer using a toilet paper roll! Lol! Thanks!
After all these years of working with yarn, I feel silly not thinking about just putting your finger there to keep the tension looser. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. As I’ve always said, “when you crochet, there’s always something new to learn”. Thank you for putting out this video!!!💜🫂💜
1:22 fussy cutting- Granny bee this is genius! It's something I've never thought of before with yarn like this! Now if I see a multicolored yarn I like I won't turn away from buying it because I'll remember this!
Minus the finger suggestion, this is exactly how I roll my yarn, and I always thought I was doing it wrong. Thank you for showing me that I'm not crazy! LOL!
ASKING FOR PRAYERS FOR my hubby, Brian. He has been going thru Chemo and Radiation for Cancer. His new scans show 7+ new spots on his liver. Prayers are greatly appreciated.✝️🙏❤️🕊️💜🌹
I roll mine over 2 fingers, but that's bcuz that's the way I learned it. I have a ball winder now in order to make yarn cake leftovers. Been crocheting for decades, but thought I'd treat myself to one. Plus I like gadgets 😄
The extra finger width is a great tip! Many people want to buy or use gadgets for everything, but they forget the best tools are right there at the end of their arms! That said, I need to know the best way to add more twist to yarn that has gotten past the Quality Assurance/Quality Control people at the yarn factories, i.e. irregularly or insufficiently twisted yarn that wants to be "splitty". I have a few methods, but boy it can be a hassle trying to do yards and yards of it at one time or having to start and stop to twist it some more for the next few yards. A couple of the ways are kinda fun. All of the ways to give me a break to get my arms to do some other function except for the same repeated motions chugging away at my stitches. It's actually a pretty good break, I really should do a video except that... I get stage fright.
I do not have any hints for the twisty yarn problem but i think it's funny that you said "I should make a video for that" because that's how my youtube Page got started. I would try to explain things to people in words and it's hard when a video Works so much better and granny Bee crochets was born.
You can teach an old dog new tricks:) I always hand ball my yarn (have tried every other way possible and still think this is best), but never used this trick. I am sure I have overwound my previous yarn balls, Thank you so much for this valuable hack😊 New subscriber!
Patterns I can do. The main sweater is called "Flight of Fancy" by lionbrand.com. the second one has a free versión on youtube, I'll attach the link and she sells the adult version on Etsy that info is on her video information. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dqESpU5Nxb4.htmlsi=_sKEQRUyYEJopa5D
@@GrannyBeeCrochets It is basically an oversized wooden spoon handle. A lot of Europeans use their wooden spoon handles. The larger the diameter of your 'stick' the loser your yarn ball will be. You could use a jumbo knitting needle, too. I would get hubby to use a sander to reduce the point of the needle to just a 'nub.' There are numerous YT vids that illustrate how to use a nostepinde. Many hand spinners and super thin thread lace knitters, won't use a hand crank winder on their delicate yarns/threads; they use a nostepinde. The nostepinde makes a center pull ball, that once it's off the 'stick' you can mush the ball to reduce the size of the center hole, and that will loosen up the yarn.
