Back in '82 that is exactly how my first hunting buddy thought me to tie a fish hook to a line. What he failed to tell me was to drop the bail when I casted. So there I was on Saguaro Lake, Arizona all by myself as I made my first ever cast with about seven feet of line hanging from the end...I did not drop the bail and that treble hook came back at me like a damn pendulum! Scared the hell outta me!! By the time I figured it out and reeling in my line that was down in the water I actually had a Blue Gill hooked. Second surprise of the day.
Hey Blackie- Thats a neat knot and it does look like it wont come un-done at all. I usually just run my line down to the stake and tie a larkshead and put the stake thru, but the larkshead can come un-done easy with just bumping it some. Thanks for the video. You and yours be safe-
I grew up not too far from you down in Opp. My best friends parents made belts, wallets, and hat bands etc... Outta rattlesnake hide. His older brother, Tim Yancey and Bobby Finedore rented a cabin out near Burnout Beach. I met a friend of theirs at that cabin, named Blackie. Any chance that was you? Did you know any Yancey's or Finedore's from Covington County?
Funny you should have mentioned a hangman’s noose. With the running end 13 times through your loop, you would have had a hangman’s noose. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Cool, hey Blackie, is 7 times around the small loop necessary? Like what if you went around 4 or 5 times, would it matter? Maybe 7 is just what you're use too, just asking thanks...
A Scaffold knot would be good to use for this, too. Essentially the knot you´re tying, but you only pass the line through two times instead of seven. Less fuss and you can also tie it as noose, like a slip knot. It can slip if you tie it in monofilament (think you need at least three turns for enough friction in mono), but in every other line it holds just fine.
I remember my grandpa teaching me that knot. The only difference being that in his directions you pass the running end through the loop, in his words, “A whole bunch of times.” 😂
