Love this video. You simplify everything to every day language. Thanks so so much. Your loom looks like mine. A gilmore. Lol

This is great, so true that the beam names sometimes are confusing. Also for me, I get tangled up sometimes with the terms warping and winding. So when I am winding, what am I doing, winding the warp on my warping mill or winding the warp onto the back beam? When I am warping, what am I doing, winding the warp onto the warp beam? Is warping also threading and sleying and tying on? Etc.

Sue Anne, what a great point! Those are definitely 2 terms we toss around interchangeably!! I tend to say that I'm "dressing the loom", and then "winding" the yarn on a warping board or "winding" through the loom. But you're exactly right! The terms can be really confusing!!

Thank you! That makes it very understandable. The other confusing names and maybe harder to remember are the “sticks” 😳 I can only remember one..I think…lease sticks? And then there’s at least two others …the one you put your warp directly on in back and the the one you tie it to in front. Are there others? I’m not sure 🤔

Oh, interesting! Lease sticks are the only ones I can think of at the moment. The things that you tie the warp to in front and back? I just call those rods. Is there another name for them? Let me know!

do you have a video on using a raddle? and how necessary is it?
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Год назад
Hi Barbara! Great question! I don't personally use a raddle, so there are no A Handwoven Experience videos on that topic. But I do know of weavers who always use one! I think if you're dressing the loom from back-to-front it comes in handy!

Hey there- I am in the other aspect of it all - bouncing between two languages with all the terms. It’s crazy- because at the studio I am speaking German with my fellow artists, then I am watching your video in English learning techniques and terms in English- so then people get the mishmash of terms in both languages
@ActonCreative

Oooh, Gemma, I can't even fathom how confusing that would be!! I'm amazed by you!!

I guess I’m lucky because I’m learning the terminology in English. I wasn’t a weaver when I spoke Spanish (I still use it though) so I never had the urge/need to learn it in Spanish. However, and I think this is funny, I have a lot of difficulties when trying to speak ‘weaver’ with my sister who doesn’t speak English

I'm lucky enough to learn weaving now English has to be my first language, I don''t even try to translate everything in Dutch. Although my grammar when asking questions is a bit Topsy-Turfy

Yep, breast beam, cloth roller, warp roller & back beam seems easier to follow, then 4 beams,. I've been reading pg 44 in the weavers book by Harriet Tidbal, about a sectional beam (sectional roller)? Or is that just another method instead of a warp frame?
@ActonCreative
@ActonCreative Год назад
Great question! When I've seen a sectional beam, it is a divided beam in the warp roller position.
