gurl i just finished the house in the cerulean sea, and it literally had me in tears 😭 like the relationship he has with the children and Arthur made my heart explode of happiness ❤❤😭😭😭
This book is the ONLY book I have ever given 5 stars, and I tell everyone to read this book and I love when I hear that they absolutely loved it and laughed out loud and cried etc..
The Library at Mount Char is one of the weirdest books I've ever read. I don't know if I would describe it as fantasy, though it has some fantastical elements. It's the horror and suspense elements that I find memorable. Speculative is probably a better label than fantasy. And it definitely leans towards lit-fic. It's so bizarre it's basically impossible to slot into a genre. I would definitely give it a go!
I never read the Mr. Mercedes trilogy and I enjoyed The Outsider. Omg….The Library at Mount Char is the freakiest book I’ve ever read. I read that a long time ago. Great video, Gabby!
the library at mount char isnt really a book about books. its a weird surreal fantasy book that has some sci/mystery/horror thrown into it. i can see it having appeal for those who like bunny by mona awad but are into nerdier stuff. its one that makes you think a bit. also gave me "sandman" on netflix vibes.
As someone who read all the Mr Mercedes books and the Outsider, I would say it’s not necessary to read the series first. It works fine as a stand alone!
You might not remember Memorex videotapes. They were very popular once, during the VCR era. I only mention it bc you seemed interested in the book cover featuring Memorez tapes.
I LOVED The Outsider and was in my top 10 a couple years ago. I did not read the Mr. Mercedes series before because I didn’t know that was linked. But I fell in love with the character Holly in The Outside!
The Library At Mount Char is batsh!t crazy (that's how it was described to me & after reading it back in 2017, I do agree) I still think about this book. ps loving your hair
The Outsiders is SO good! I have not read any of the Mr.Mercede's series although I do own them lol. They explain enough of Holly's back story (she is in the Mercede's series) that you can get by with out reading them.
I’ve personally loved your favorite Horror recs, so I’ll say that the dark/horror elements of The Library at Mount Char could work for you. I read it 2 years ago and I went into it blind and ended up power reading it (via audio). A moment I’ll never forget is eating while listening and I burst into tears, crying into my food…and the busted out laughing a minute later almost choking. It’s unlike anything I’ve read and to say it’s a fantasy sort of pigeonholes a story that crosses a few genres. I hope you like it!
Great vlog Gabby ! I loved The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston (And the Dead Romantics!). I can't remember if I mentioned this before, but I met the author at Steamy Lit Con in Anaheim, CA. I told her about you & your vlog about her book(s) ! I was really fangirling ! Next, I'm going to read "Do Your Worst" by Rosie Danan
I did not read the Mr. Mercedes series when I read the Outsider, and I still enjoyed the Outsider! I really don’t think you need to read the Mr. Mercedes series before reading the Outsider. I liked the book, and I am glad that I read it! Some parts really creeped me out, and I think you will like it! Probably won’t be a favorite, but I would LOVE to see a reading vlog about it if you do read it! 😊
The unmaking of June Farrow is historical fiction meets magical realism and crime. I think compared to her other book, you might enjoy this one more. It does get repetitive in the middle but the beginning and last part are good.
I just finished midnight is the darkest hour for the book troop for this month. Did not enjoy it that much, gave it a 2.5 stars, can't wait to hear your thoughts on this!!!!!
I read the outsider without reading any related books, I was just really interested in the premise of the book. There are some parts you can tell you're not getting the full picture, but I enjoyed it anyway
I don't normally add too many book to my want to read list after watching a video but I'm interested in so many of these. And I rarely read romance but I even found a few of those. 😊 I read The Outsider not paying attention to the fact that it's part of the Mr Mercedes universe (I haven't read the Bill Hodges trilogy). It was the first Stephen King book I'd read in a long time and I read it so fast. I really enjoyed it but it follows King's normal formula.
I read the outsider without reading mr. mercedes, and I didn't miss anything! there is a detective character introduced in the series who also appears in the outsider, but you don't need to read the series to understand :) I hope you enjoy it, I did!
I'm super excited for "The Wordless Book." His blurb sounds really exciting and his artwork his awesome. I'm following him on Twitter and he's filming his own trailer.
I DNF’ed Mr Mercedes and LOVED The Outsider. So. No need to read that series first. There is a character in the Outsider in his newest book, Holly. Also, freaking excellent
The A24 movie “Lobster” sounds similar to Shark Heart. In the movie you need to find your mate and get married in order to not turn into an animal of your choosing lol
You definitely don’t need to read the Mr Mercedes trilogy to read The Outsider. I still haven’t read it (I did watch the series though). I really enjoyed The Outsider and I just read Holly which has some of the same characters as well and really enjoyed it as well.
Loved this video!! I had the exact same thought about the black mirror episode and the romance novel by Rebecca. I guess I’ll bump in five years up on my tar since I already own it ❤ Edit. I started midnight it’s the darkest hour on audio and couldn’t get into the accents so I’m goin to have to order it lol let me know what you think of the audio.
I really want to read Shark Heart and Yellowface and Winter in New York! Relating to sharks, have you read Raw Shark Texts? That book was playful with texts as imagery.🦈
Hello Gabby, I need your help. I've bought "The plot" by Jean Korelitz for the pompt "writer stealing book and publish it under his own name". Now I know there is (at least!) one other book with the same prompt, but I can't for my life remember the title or writer. Can you help me?
Gabby, you like New York? Well I'm from New York. Maybe one day we could collab or meet. Also I mentioned you in my recent video because I read a favorite book of yours. Let's just say the book was rather disgusting, but in a good way.
