A Bizarre CIA Black Plane?

Dark Skies

It was 1950, and US Navy pilot Glenn T. Farnsworth was in trouble in North Korean airspace in his F4-U Corsair. His squadron, the Stingers, was on its first mission of the Korean War. While trying to avoid anti-aircraft fire, he collided with another Corsair and saw his comrade crash into the ground below.
He knew his aircraft would never make it back to his carrier. Even if he could climb high enough to ditch and parachute down, a rescue behind enemy lines was almost impossible. He made up his mind and set course for the Yellow Sea. He ditched over the water and waited in the frigid sea. Surely, someone had seen him and would report his location.
He trusted and waited for the sound of twin 9-piston, 1,425 horsepower propellers. Arriving would be a strange aircraft finished just too late for World War 2, but unique enough in its very special abilities to be used by CIA Black Ops and considered to be pulled back into service in 2025…

Join Dark Skies as we explore the world of aviation with cinematic short documentaries featuring the biggest and fastest airplanes ever built, top-secret military projects, and classified missions with hidden untold true stories. Including US, German, and Soviet warplanes, along with aircraft developments that took place during World War I, World War 2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Gulf War, and special operations mission in between.
As images and footage of actual events are not always available, Dark Skies sometimes utilizes similar historical images and footage for dramatic effect and soundtracks for emotional impact. We do our best to keep it as visually accurate as possible.

Jimmy Buffett had an albatross as his private airplane. My dad knew the pilot. And so I actually got the chance to sit in it while the plane was in for maintenance. I also have a Jimmy Buffet "autographed" (aka autopin signed) guitar pick the pilot gave us that day. It's not worth anything, but its cool.

Seaplanes and flying boats are very much niche aircraft these days but small numbers of new ones are still being built. Probably the most common these days is the canadian CL-415, designed as a water bomber. I would imagine that a suitably redesigned Albatros, with modern engines and electronics, could also find a place as a water bomber, SAR and maybe utility aircraft. The albatros and CL-415 are almost the same size.

Well, I know the US Navy keeps looking at seaplanes for various operations like Special Ops. In the early 2000s at NAS Pax River DoN did Test and Evaluation on Grumman Ducks, Mallards and Albatross aircraft. A few rumors were talking about making a larger Albatross using composite materials to make it lighter and reduce its radar signature, along with adding turboprops and scimitar blades to increase power and reduce fuel requirements. So, they are going to remake the G-111 in Australia and someplace in the US is going to remake the PBY Catalina here in the US ....using composite materials, turbo props, and improved propellers along with a glass cockpit. Seaplanes do come in handy when you are trying to sneak a team ashore, shut down the engines and glide in rather than beat the air as loudly as possible with a rotor.... right now, I know the DoD has let a contract to convert a C-130 Hercules into a pontoon equipped seaplane, which sounds insane.

I was a kid in san Diego CA in 1966. The Coast Guard station used to shut down a main road to let these aircraft cross the road to get to the water. My Dad was flying the Navy P5M at the time and was very jealous of the amphibious capability (which he didnt have). I remember him calling this ship the UF. Great video

Actually opened gate and crossed the road to get the airport. The base sat on the bay. We used to fish off the pier right outside the hangar. Coast Guard called the albatrosses “Goats”.
@kennethjackson7574
@kennethjackson7574 10 месяцев назад
The HH-3F used by the Coast Guard was derived from the HH-3E “Jolly Green Giant.” The armor was deleted, the deck raised to get more fuel capacity, and the rear portion of the fuselage changed into a drop-down ramp. The HH-3Fs normally took off with a 45% fuel load because they could lift that straight up. On very long flights/big search areas they would be fueled to 95%, but then the gates at the Air Station and Lindbergh Field would be opened and the “Aircraft Crossing Signals” turned red. The helo would taxi across Harbor Drive, then go storming down the Lindbergh Field runway to build enough air speed to lift off. Been there, seen it.

There is one of these aircraft at the Bradley Air Museum at Bradley International Airport, which is named after a WW2 P-47 pilot that crashed during training. It’s wings are clipped and were disconnected, hinged at the rear and had hydraulics at the leading edge. It was used as a test bed to explore the feasibility of the tilt wing, vertical takeoff and landing concept that resulted in the V-22 Osprey. I recommend this museum to any manned flight vehicle fan. It is in Windsor Locks, CT.

As an Aviator stationed at NAS Cubi Pt in the Philippines, we had two USN HU-16s. Each required a Command Pilot with significant hours. At one point they were down to two qualified Command Pilots when I was transferred from an ASW Squadron flying the S-2E. The HU-16 was much larger and heavier with engines not quite as powerful, but it did have the unique ability to land on water. Our local Marines would on occasion schedule a flight so the could get their practice jumps in. On one flight the Gunny in charge of the group was standing just behind myself and co-pilot when my co-pilot told him I used to land on carriers. The Gunny said that was crazy, to which I replied that it was not as crazy as jumping out of an airplane when all the engines were still operating. We still did water landings, primarily taking people into dark areas rather than rescuing them.

Linguistics is such a difficult line of study. Da Nang should be and in almost all dialects is spoken just as you pronounced. So, if someone tells you the 'A' in Nang should sound like the 'A' in sang I would suggest they not promote one dialect over another. The broken vowel tone often sounds like the short vowel in US English but there just exists enough dialects that it isn't all that relevant (at least not in this case). The reason anyone does Pararescue are wide and varied but the best I ever heard was: Terror is not an enemy, it's a companion. Use it to complete your mission and you'll succeed where others give up.

I still like your videos for the most part but I'm so freaking tired of you putting the wrong aircraft video up when you're speaking about a totally different aircraft: please get your crap together to improve the quality of what you are presenting thank you.

Showing Skyraiders while talkin about Corsairs is one reason this channel is only "C" rated, for inaccurate depiction of historical events.
