A black-owned children’s bookstore in Raleigh, North Carolina, is closing after only one year due to threats. #blackhistory #raleighnc #blackbooks #blacknews
We need Black men and community leaders in their local communities to stand up and protect these businesses/individuals, and dare these cowards to come forward…if they do…make examples out of them. I guarantee the local/federal government entities will start paying attention then.
It’s very sad! They were threatening to do harm to their young son. They have been stalking them. This is absolutely ridiculous and if it were ANY other they would have been trying to find the perpetrators! Only in America
Hearing this just saddens my heart. They just can't leave our people alone!! Some of us truly mind our own business, want to live our lives, and want to be left alone!!
I wish people can live and work in peace and harmony. Im not from the area. I dont see what is wrong with a cultural bookstore wanting to educate others. I dont know why they were getting threats.
@@margaretjohnson6259 cry harder with your "I'm a victim bs" no body is buying it anymore. The amount of blk on blk bs is off the chains right now. In Washington state alone they are not teaching blk kids how to read and write bc it's a form of ws, look up Baltimore schools and EDUCATE YOURSELF.
I love that you are bringing this to light. ❤I also love that Liberation Station bookstore has a presence online as well. It can continue with support.😊
Good Morning Beautiful Sister! This is absolutely heartbreaking. I do not like hearing or seeing this happen to any sister or brother. I completely agree with you Sister. We need leadership in this day and hour. We deserve so much better than this. Our children deserve so much better than this.
1:59 - It depends which books you are reading to get your history. Rewriting history is a common trend. There are books that tell the truth and there are books that tell complete lies. For the last 65 years it's more common to teach people lies. The improper education in schools today is a major reason for all the chaos and confusion in America. The people have been lied to for so many years that they are confused when presented the real truth.
I glad you moved to RU-vid & I'm sorry for what you experienced on Instagram. Unfortunately, this not surprise me of what's is happening in Raleigh. I moved from New York to the Raleigh area. It appears to be diverse here, but the energy says otherwise. In my opinion as a black person you can do well as long as you don't rock the boat. What frustrates me that some blacks don't realize we are powerful with numbers. We come together and fight for each other, they will see a problem is our problem and we will fight together. I am so tired hearing people saying, "well it got nothing to do with me." But it does! I'm sorry this book store is closing. I will reach out to WRAL news to see if they will spotlight this story. I encourage all who is reading this reach out to WRAL to encourage them to spotlight this. Numbers speak volumes.
Would be enlightening to know what the threat/s were. It must be serious if closure is the only option. How about Security Person- nel, on-site cameras, making the shop physically more secure. Sorry to hear this. ☹️🤔🌴🌹
Could be that the person conceptually excluded 85% of the market, which consists of people who read, to focus on selling books to the one demographic that doesn't, can't or won't read...
Raleigh is pretty diverse and has a ton of colleges nearby, including at least 2 HBCUs. I think we could start by reaching out to all the colleges. Students love to protest, and they have power. Next, folks need to boycott ALL of the stores in that area. Yt folks aren't gonna speak up about these kinds of injustices unless they feel it in their pockets. Finally, we need to buy up everything in her store so that if she does move, she's financially able to make the transition to a new space. I'm not opposed to gofundme for these kinds of situations.
The multifaceted approaches are great recommendations. Community involvement with HBCUs, boycotting with financial support for store owners to continue their business!
So i recently learned Literacy in America ranges from 70 to 80% and that 17 African countties have higher literacy. Not only does this explain why the bookstore failed, but it explains a lot about the current state of the country. Interestingly, California and Texas, the most democratic and republican states respectively were in the bottom 3.
I'm sorry. But it's tough for all business owners. And no matter your color. If you want a better life. You can make one. Just as if you want to live a destructive life. Maybe we. Need to stop with the excuses. And I don't understand. How anything you've said. Brings the people together...
Spirit....lord....fairies....fantasy. Come on, black people, put this nonsense away. There is no "lord" and if there was, he clearly has it out for the people. Stop hiding behind fables, get off your asses and start FIGHTING this nonsense.
I’m curious why it’s a black book store? Wasn’t everyone welcome ? I mean if it’s black owned I get it but come on this sounds very much like a race hustle . Raleigh is a very diverse community and if this happened I’m sure it’s a very isolated event . Maybe closing has something to do with many book stores are closing due to many people don’t buy books anymore
