one of the first full solos i learned. flying high again is on another level through the entire song. its like trying to play the under the bridge intro on triple time for 4 minutes straight without getting a finger cramp lol.
I was at an Ozzfest in Florida when Ozzy did the usual tribute to Randy just before doing ' GOODBYE TO ROMANCE".. just after he(Ozzy) said " this ones for you Randy"! as if a reply from Heaven and right on cue... THE ENTIRE SKY LIT UP WITH LIGHTNING THAT STARTED AS ONE LIGHTNING BOLT AND BRANCHED OUT INTO DOZENS MORE SO IT COVERED THE ENTIRE PAVILION THEY WERE PLAYING UNDER!!! We.. all of us in the crowd ... Went crazy. I've lived in Florida 42 years amid hurricanes and all yet never have I seen lightning anything like that. I'll never forget it!
what you failed to acknowledge is the fact that Randy would always improvise in concert and would give Oxzy chills down his back. Randy was at his best when he had the freedom to improvise
Oh did he FAIL to acknowledge that? Sounds like just some semi-related little tidbit, not sure why you're acting as if he left out some kind of critical fact.
Rhodes never hated Sabbath. He was in Quiet Riot and enjoyed playing the strip and also his mother owned a music school in which he was teaching over 60 students electric guitar. He was hesitant bc he was happy and his mom convinced him to go.
You people tend to complicate these things - If Mr Rhodes was hesitant to join he would not have tried out - Also - I find it hard to believe someone who played this type of music hated BS - As far as Ozzy and Sabbath inventing Heavy Metal - I strongly advise you to listen to the first Cream record which predates BS by yrs - The Standard - not Ray davies' brother or Ozzy - was the first Hard Rock guitar player - look it up and listen before you scoff -
@@davidrice3337first Cream album did not predate “Ray Davies brother,” which I assume you mean the guitar playing on The Kinks “You Really Got Me,” because that song came out two years before Cream even existed.
@@Gabriel2oh6Fun fact, Ray Davies brother, the guitar player for the Kinks ( my 1st live concert by the way) told the story of someone carrying his amplifier and dropped it, tearing the back cover of the speaker. He was horrified he said. But he plugged his guitar in and he said, "That was the sound I had been looking for." That is the distorted sound on the "You really got me " song. He was already trying other things like turning the gain all the way up and the volume knob down a bit. I'm sure there was other "factors" but the cover over the speakers in the back of the amp definitely came off 🔥🎸🔥
He played at two different houses. He also played before he was famous when he was like 13 or 14 him and Kellie and my brother which was Kellie seventh grade friend I was in sixth grade and they played at my house and I remember singing so I was in the first bandthat Randy Rhodes was in me and my brother I wasn’t. I just was a little kid messing around singing and he also played at one of the biggest parties ever in Burbank for a smaller house. It was on Beachwood Drive. It was such a bad ass party, and Randy Rhodes and Kellie played at that party I was 16 years old.
Randy did not hate Sabbath. You can trace heavy metal back to classical music. Fresh Cream is an excellent album and I love Clapton and Baker. As far as heavy metal I don't think so. As far as the kinks go after "really got me" they never had me again. Lola and Come Dancing are only two songs but two songs capable of ruining an entire career. Total Garbage. Blue Cheer usually gets the credit for their remake of Summertime Blues or even the credit for coining the phrase " heavy metal thunder" goes to Steppenwolf. Myself personally considers Sabbath hard rock not heavy metal. Heavy metal didn't enter the scene until the late 70s and early 80s. Ozzys early solo albums with Randy is definitely heavy metal. The first onset of metal was Priest, Maiden, Saxon, Motorhead, Diamondhead, ect. Shit Accept's 1982 song Fast as a Shark is speed metal.
Ozzy has had nothing but absolutely incredible guitar players who always have to carry the band on their backs. He is insanely lucky they’ve all been so talented Jake E Lee is my favorite out of the three he ever had.
There was undoubtedly something powerful within the music created during that time. I'm a diehard Ozzy fan! His music has been apart of my entire upbringing and adult life.
OZZY is stronger than he knows. He's withstood so many storms, even the self inflicted ones. The beauty is that he doesn't even know it.Sharon gets so much credit, but I am impressed by his endurance, and his love for his kids, and grandkids. His simplicity and vulnerability is what makes him so enduring and well loved. And, I think because of his humanity, respected.🤔🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
That’s the truth, it was the perfect album. It’s like they we’re running on all four cylinders with Diary. I still am amazed at how great Diary of a madman is. Every song hits in every way!
@@johngibson2884 Yea i got to meet Dana and Slaughter. About a year before their guitarist TIM passed away. He tells the story about Randy on one of the 'ROCK N ROLL' type interview channels on YT ..it's not too hard to find. Pretty cool story.
@@jewel65Ozzy is an amazing singer. You don't need a ten octave range or some bullshit to be a great rock singer. His melodies, phrasing and writing is incredible. The 9 album run from Sabbath 1 to Diary is in a league of it's own in metal.
I think Ozzie's smarter than he appears. Being drunk and stoned certainly makes you appear stupid, but I've always thought he's got more going on upstairs than what it seems. 🤔
@@castleanthrax1833 Ozzy is smart enough but he's also a happy-go-lucky guy who loves to party and have fun with people, which leads to him doing lots of stupid things. The smartest thing he ever did was to marry Sharon. Like her or not she's the reason he's not dead and stayed a star all these years.
Statistically and logically speaking randy was the best guitarist of all time. He made more progress for age then anybody known to the public. He changed the progression of rock music as we knew it. Not anymore peoples going back but throughout the 80s and 90s he was blessed by God then God took him
Statistically and logically? What kind of half-assed comment is that? Please explain. He didn't change anything. He played on a couple good records , on which other people wrote the songs , and that's all. He could play but his importance is greatly exaggerated by some people.
@@PlayerToBeNamedLater1973I think they mean the progression of talent for such a young age. Who knows what he would’ve become had he even gotten out of his young 20’s. It’s an argumentative point for sure, who knows and we’ll never know. For still being a kid there’s no doubt he was phenomenal.
w.e.s. God didn't "take" Randy. His life was cut short by a jackass stunt-flying a small airplane whilst whacked out on cocaine in which Randy was a reluctant passenger. Call a spade a spade.
My first tape ever Blizzard of Oz! Played it til I had to tape it back together! And played it some more! Randy was irreplaceable. I chose Goodbye to Romance to play at my sister’s funeral. She and I grew up die hard Ozzy fans! Still Jammin at 54! Thanks for the diary Madman!
I was in music school, at a very young age mind you, when I 1st heard Randy playing. He was quite brilliant. I already was a Ritchie Blackmore listener. But using the scales, major/minors usually used in classical music for rock, "metal" music was just a beautiful thing. Eddie of course came along and made the guitar "talk" and "scream". I grew up in a wonderful time to be a young studying musician.
Ritchie Blackmore, classically trained musician was the best, even over Hendrix, Page, VanHalen, and with that Stratocaster. Change my mind. 'Highway Star', 'Burn', 'Man on the silver mountain' are gems..and Blackmore's style and guitar playing stands out despite multiple lead singer changes throughout the Deep Purple catalog. NO OTHER guitarist can claim this acomplishment, and Blackmore's playing and that guitar tone just shines through. Robert at 69.
@@bobmalack481 Music is beautiful, It's art, and art is subjective. I don't put any guitar player/musician over anyone myself. I personally believe they all added their own flavor and d dynamics to their art form. But I also won't ever tell anyone they are wrong for doing it either. Some people have their favorites and that's great too. Richie was to me an inspiration for I was classically trained and his playing was beautiful. Just beautiful.
I was an 80s teen...I remember he was playing at the Houston summit but I didn't get to go...it was diary of a madmen tour ....I was in my room and waited for 97rock radio station to do a live interview with him...I can't explain the disappointment I felt not getting to go....but I did see him at the Houston astrodome in the 80s when they had the show with a whole bunch of different bands...I can't remember what they called those shows...he was so wasted two guys had to walk him out and stand next to him while he performed...lol🎉🎉🎉🎉...it was a whole different world than it is today.😢
He and EVH are why I started playing. The solo in crazy train was the first "real solo" I learned. His playing is something I have no words to explain how amazing he was.
@user-ql1pc7pi9x Do you ever read comments properly? I didn't say anything about what he was trying to achieve. That's twice you've read one thing, and it's registered as something else.
@user-ql1pc7pi9x Grow up, little boy. I can give my opinion all I want. "Insolent drivel"? Those are big words for you, aren't they. Have you been testing out your thesaurus?
@user-ql1pc7pi9x Seriously? Is that what they teach you in school these days? To make rude comments to others and then report their comments when they reply? Please stop abusing the reporting function child. You know you had to lie to RU-vid in order to report my comment. Unless of yourself, you're made of cellophane?
To this day I STILL play Crazy Train on the drums on Guitar Hero. Been a fan of Ozzy since the original series in the early 00’s. Him and his family are probably the most down to earth celebrities that haven’t been corrupted by fame and money
I don’t know where he got this info from? Big Randy Rhoads fan! Read a Randy Rhodes interviews he’d met ozzy a few time, was a known classical teacher in his area. Didn’t care to try out, friend did convince him. Played classic piece, ozzy told him it’s great man but people want metal, then he started playing crazy train. He incorporated classical in his solo’s. There’s still a chord on crazy train I could never reach, Randy had wide hands!!!
What’s amazing is how this takes me back to high school. Seen Randy and Ozzy on my birthday , Jan 24th 1982 in Chicago , Diary of a Madman tour , I’d love to go back to them days. Our government ruined our country now it sucks.
I’ve seen that tour in Louisville , there was another guitarist, Randy passed away by then. Ozzy didn’t miss a beat or didn’t give a shit, he hired someone else couple days later, and continued the tour. That concert was great, me and my Army buddy were wasted, we brought in our US army gas masks and smoking weed with the masks on in front of the stage, Ozzy kept looking at us and laughing😂
@@humungushumungus213 man that awesome. Guitarist may have been Brad Gillis from Nightranger , he filled in right away until Jake E. Lee joined. Brad Gillis is the guitarist on Speak of the Devil , the live album made right after Randy’s passing.
I had tickets for the Orlando concert that he never made it to. I was 15 about to turn 16 and was so distraught that I was in a daze. They replaced Ozzy with Pat Travers and I went but was totally miserable. I really should have just stayed home because I didn’t have any fun at all!
Can read old interviews for that time. Basically Ozzy was good friends with the pilot, knew he was always wasted/stoned 24/7 and regretted not telling Randy if he offers you a show ride deny it. So when Randy met up with the pilot, he offered him a show ride and was said he was even more wasted and immediately lost control of the plane.
No he was on the plane. He was trying to get photos for his mom. I wasn’t aware of that, I just looked up to make sure I was correct He was on the plane. The bus driver had an expired pilots license
Ozzy is and has always been my all time favorite human being ever.. plus we share a birthday.. i love ozzy so much his voice can make me smile no matter what im going through..
For some reason, it gives the option to trans your comment to English. According to Google Translate, your comment reads "R.I.P. Condominium" in English.
they were not heavy metal in their early albums. at most, late 60s hard rock. they had more psych and blues influences in their early music, some prog at times. Sabbath birthed the combination of both the spirit and sound of metal with their very first song, even if the album was mostly heavy blues songs. Truth is, birth of a genre can’t ever be pinpointed to a specific moment in time, it’s just that music gradually evolves.
So sad we lost Rhoads so soon... those first two Ozzy albums are just over the top with that mesmerizing guitar work....to this day... and I remember a friend letting me listen to them in 1982....
Randy Rhodes is one of best guitarists to ever walk this planet. I’m a huge fan of Blues, and Blues Rock. The guitar bands and Blues legends. When it comes to technique, speed, clarity, no one played as clean as him, every single note was heard perfectly clear. I’ve seen him when he was with Quiet Riot and let me tell you. That man is the definition of a guitar master!!
I just want to say to Sharon and Ozzy you're awesome thank you for recognizing Randy rhoads God bless Randy rhoads his family and everybody else that's magical and touching a guitar keep on rocking
I feel bad for both of these men. Rhodes and Ozzy were a force in metal, and they both just jived with each other so well, they had an amazing connection for the brief time they knew each other. You can tell when Ozzy talks about Rhodes, that he still misses his friend and music partner hard. RIP to a metal legend.
very first concert i ever saw was Ozzy with Randy at Atlantic City Convention Center. i was 9 years old and have since been to thousands of shows and Randy still the greatest guitarist i’ve ever seen live and i got to EVH and David Gilmour(both also amazing).
Ozzy loved him so much in multiple interviews he's just gone on and on about him that's a genuine front man it's his show but he backs his members he knows they're legends just as he is 🫡
