Women are basically pre Viet Cong? This has more retro 60s Brit melody than expected.

@dis.infectant a lot of the Women material was written and sung by the guitarist (brother of the bassist and vocalist from Viet Cong) who didn't join Viet Cong. if you listen to his more recent project Cindy Lee you can hear where a lot of those influences came from.

One of my favorite albums of all time, there's genuinely nothing out there like it. This is the last track off the album and actually is one of the more chill tracks off the album. A lot of the songs on here are pretty noisy and dissonant at points with this general feeling of dread and unease. To me at least, this track was much more optimistic. I feel like something like Heat Distraction or Shaking Hand would've been a better introduction to this band. The reason this track works so well is because it comes after so many dissonant and anxious songs that almost withhold the melody from you.

Love this track! Such a good band. It's a shame their time was cut short.

Mushroomhead came out with 2 new songs. One is called “Fall in Line” and the other is called “Prepackaged”. Then the band As I Lay Dying has also 2 new songs. The first one is “Burden” and the other one is “The Cave We Fear to Enter.” Plus check out some of these songs out by Imminence. Some songs like “Continuum”, “Chasing Shadows”, “Alleviate”, “Heaven Shall Burn”, “The Sickness”, “Paralyzed”, “Heaven in Hiding”, and “Ghost”….. These bands are amazing. By chance, you have done any of these videos or bands before then I apologize. Thanks ❤️🤘🏼❤️

They formed a new band after the brawl. Check out Viet Cong - Continental Shift. Super good track. Similar, but not the same.

Really glad you found this interesting! If you liked the textural work and atmosphere on this track you'd definitely enjoy the rest of the album in the same regard, its a very unique sonic landscape. Really interesting that you found the structure so vague, i've always found the chorus starting on "But those cruel tricks" quite clear and it to be quite direct. The lyrics definitely air on the side of imagistic abstract poetics which adds to its evocative quality to me. Others have already mentioned the bassist and drummers followup band Viet Cong/Preoccupations which is some (great) more direct and gothic post punk but the singer/guitarist also has a new project called Cindy Lee which just released an insane 2 hour lo-fi pop/rock record only available on youtube and geocities (its incredible!).

I think when I made the sonic youth comparison I was specifically thinking in terms of their mid-late era output where the composition got more direct and melodic and a lot of the abrasiveness came from the textural work and odd melodic lines stemming from weird tunings. I think you could read that last stanza a lot of different ways, perhaps as emphasizing the distance between the narrator and the other with the more traditional shipwreck imagery of palm trees contrasted against the modernity of the cash machine. A big strength I think of this albums lyrics and a lot of great lyrics/poetry imo is its ability to say a lot and communicate a lot of complex emotions and moods without literally stating anything, reinforcing it's themes through imagery and abstraction rather than directly and definitely stating anything, leaves much more room for the listener to dream. I'll make sure the next track I recommend is even more inscrutable!

Hey man you need to check the band Citycop with the songs X and Ode to Bula / Flight Lessons, these are the first and second track on the album. I recommended 2 songs because X is a short one

i am so happy you nailed down the incredibly evocative nature of this song. to me the mix of lethargy, hopefulness and sorrow in this song creates the most bittersweet and life-affirming feeling i have ever heard in music, which i am allowed to say for real because this is my favorite song of all time :P. the haziness in this song is shared through the entire album and previous tracks are far far more compositionally dissonant, which in context gives this song a kind of "stepping into the light" sort of feeling for an album closer. to me, the haziness brings to mind the enormity of one's entire life as a whole and the impossibility of representing it. the fuzziness of memories and of feelings, the gaps that will exist in any attempt to explain or narrativize ones life. like i said, life affirming. i love the lyrics on the same measure - all of women's lyrics are this borderline nonsense cryptic poetry and their appeal is mostly evocative, although to me at least that doesn't diminish their beauty. the bittersweet love song that the lyrics evoke here was... well for me i just heard it at the perfect time in my life, but i think it holds a lot of emotion and i think the feeling of the words as sung (particularly that final stanza) is really powerful

You know what it's time for? It's time to react to: *Sacrificial Vein - Black Terror Genesis* or *Venomous Echoes - Split Formations and Infinite Mania*
