The day after filming our full winter garden tour, we started seeing this happening with the bananas. It was so interesting seeing how much of a difference the canopy is making... so grabbed this bonus winter garden share.
So interesting to see your garden at this time of year. Your celery plants look great, I'm just planting one for the very first time. I'd love to be able to grow banana's and hopefully when we get our geothermal greenhouse, we'll be able to. 'Growing' is incredibly fulfilling! 💚 Great job on your place - I always learn something new.

Having something overhead does reduce the severity of the frost. Your banana trees are a great example of that. Beach umbrella, bubble wrap, frost blanket etc will all protect plants.
It was so interesting seeing how distinct the difference was along that line of bananas. A good learning on where to protect in the future. Which might be this week!
I don’t believe how well your onions or garlic are growing ours are bad this year doesn’t help when we caught thecurrawong s eating the tops the other day the currawong s are here all winter normally and return to the high country late August . So since we like them will have to put up with that
Oh my goodness!!! A currawong! I would never have thought they would do that! So cheeky. These ones are garlic. We captured a vid on them when we popped them in, as our last year's garlic crop got super small, so we are trialling 5 new varieties. And also put in some elephant garlic since then. It is really interesting seeing how they have all been performing differently in their growth. I'm capturing clips along the way, so I can share the outcome. Looking forward to seeing the future bulbs and then how they store too.
Having some type of protection from frost etc definitely works wonders. All my bananas near the house are looking great but the ones exposed to the elements look terrible. They do that every year and bounce back perfectly. My young potato’s copped it hard in that frost too.
Those microclimates make such a world of difference. Crossing fingers for both of us all pull through and turn for the ups with warmer weather ahead. (Which is not today! 🤣)
@@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus no definitely not today but I’m not minding the rain haven’t had much this winter and I’ve found myself having to water things I usually don’t have to this time of year.
