Today I am taking you on a tour of the cafe brasserie la Rotonde in Paris Montparnasse. This famous establishment serves only classic french food prepared the traditional way as well as beautiful seafood platters. the produce used are the best in their categories.
Unlike many establishments in Montparnasse, La Rotonde has retained much of its bohemian charm and continues in operation to this day as a popular spot for the Parisian crowds.
On the evening of the first round of the French presidential election, 2017, Emmanuel Macron and his entourage celebrated the result at La Rotonde - Brasserie .

I moved to Utah years ago and took a woman out on a date to one of Salt Lake City’s finest French restaurant (it is gone now 😔). She wanted to try escargot because she never had before. Keep in mind, Utah was sort of a “meat and potatoes” only type of place awhile back and I didn’t find many women interested in trying different foods. We’ve now been married 18 years and I still love her!!! I’m enjoying seeing your videos in France!!

This is one of my favourite restaurant. The menu has changed since you have made this video. The offer is now centered around fish. Aioli de cabillaud, Haddock, Pavé de saumon... The food is heavenly and the service is great. It is a must for every one visiting Paris.

Dear Stephane, I awoke this morning debating where I was going to go for breakfast. I decided to check the Internet before launching myself out the door. What a pleasant surprise and culinary treat today's offering from you was! Now, it doesn't matter where I choose to go for breakfast. I'll have visions of superb French cuisine in my mind upon which to feast. Thank you! Glad you got to Paris safely.

Mmm! So, the first time we went to Paris we found a Bistro on a corner called Cafe Paoli, I think, which had a grand piano being played. We had to guess what to eat (!), because at the time my French was very limited, but the whole experience was unforgettable! We never found it when we went back 3 years ago; maybe it's long-gone, but your outing brought it all back! Thanks, Stefan! 🙂

Bin to this place (La Rotonde) a couple of times when i lived in Paris and really enjoyed it. Stopped going though, when i moved to the 17th. After a while though, i stopped eating anything but quick lunches in the typical Brasseries. I mostly only used Brasseries for a quick lunch or a beer / glass of wine / a get27 after work. For 'real' dining i switched more to classic restaurants. Small local mom and pop places for me and my girlfriend on the weekend, French-Italian classics such as 'Noto' (my favorite in the 17th - though technically located in the 8th) for entertaining guests and family.

Lovely meal and beautifully filmed, thank you. You had so looked forward to being in France again and I'm happy that this meal lives up to your expectations. I would have appreciated knowing the French name of your first course and I would have liked to know what wine you choose. 1 wine for all the meal? Also, I'm surprised that the slice of bread you were served to eat with your oysters was toasted. Enjoy every minute and every morsel!

That quenelles dish with that Nantua sauce would make a good video for me. Lots of good technique there. I have found that there are quite a few variations floating around between the classic preparations and bouchon style in Lyons. I live in the midwest in the US and I have a couple northern pike filets in my freezer. Just waiting to get some good crayfish.

Good Afternoon, Chef! I enjoyed your visit to La Rotonde. You taught a lot from how to read the menu to how to use those special utensils. Were the sea snails raw or do they steam them? Also I have a question , it seems that there are different categories of eating establishments in France. Can you explain the difference between a cafe, a bistro, a brasserie and a restaurant and what they may serve? Here in the USA is a restaurant: fast food, casual food and fine food. Thanks!

It would be a bad idea! Stéphane focuses on traditional French cuisine, and that's why he has made a lot of effort to learn the culinary techniques of Escoffier ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auguste_Escoffier ). On the other hand, Alex ( ru-vid.com ) is free-spirited and, sometimes, "all over the place". Their cooking philosophies do not seem to match.

Great video! I'm curious to ask-and I hope you don't find the question patronizing-but was the omission of "Le" and "de l'" (or articles in general) in the restaurant's name a thing (or is something that happens) in casual French conversation? I'm a learner of the language and I'm trying to pick up on the nuances of French. Reason I asked is because you didn't omit the La in La Coupole and La Rotonde.
