When i was in elementary school we went there on field trips a couple of times . Always ended with a cup of root beer . The pool had huge catfish in it we would eat lunch and feed the fish . I loved that place .

My Dad was the Chief Operating Engineer there for 30 years. He retired in 1979. I have very fond memories of the brewery. It just breaks my heart to see it abandoned, partially demolished, and, vandalized😢

My uncle was a truck driver for them. Wish I kept his work shirts. Great video.

I’m glad you mention the pool. As a teen I went swimming there, and I don’t know if anyone remembers the lifeguard. I was a very ornery teen and in that day if teens wanted to smoke they just did. Well when I was at the pool I was smoking and the lifeguard who happened to be a very, very overweight woman. She said to me “you know smoking will stunt your growth”. In which I suggested she should take up smoking. I maybe old but I still remember that exchange. Ahhh childhood. Thank you for this video. And my dad was a major contributor to the profit of this brewery. 😂

Returning from VietNam in July 1971 , I was attached to the Large Animal Clinic at Fort Sam in San Antonio. Several of our Sergeants had some influence with someone at Lone Star and many a Friday afternoon a keg showed up and was rapidly consumed............

Thanks for the video I remember when it was used for big corporate parties. The swimming pool was also used for the parties and at one time was a private club or something of that sort. I grew up close to the area sad that it's standing all alone. It would be a great venture for someone because it's so close or is in South Town area. Thanks for bringing back memories.

I remember climbing the water tower and looking down at the pool when it was still there. It’s needs to be remade into a brewery again! With A lot of the same features as they would’ve offered when it was open to the community. In my own experience San Antonio has become a place that really loves open spaces for people to gather around.

So sad to see this. Even stupid developers can't do anything right with this site. As a kid and teenager, we went to the brewery for the tours and it was a staple of our community. Now, it's a fading memory that will live with us forever. Thanks for making this video.

Wow! I didn't know all that information about the brewery. You really did your research. Very informative. Can't believe the state it is in now. Sad.

Explored the area today as i was riding the bicycle in the area. its a real shame how much of the area has been leveled. I walked in the buildings and did not see anyone around, but was alone and did not want to leave my bike unattended. Did a search and found your channel, and spent the last 4 hours watching and researching your work. Thank you so much for all your time and effort. Kinda makes me wish i had been taking video all the years i have been exploring the area. Born and raised in SA, i have always loved exploring.

Yea I kinda wished I myself looked at all the buildings while they were still standing, but I always have horrible luck with running into homeless people when checking out abandoned places so I never went into this place

Thanks for this video. A friend ‘s father worked there in the 1970’s and we got to swim in the pool. Great memories.

Mann, to interview that worked there and take them back now to hear what they have to say about the place and people who worked with them there would be something

The spurs and the missions might buy it out and turn those old buildings into bars and entertainment. I really hope they do something exciting with it.

Thanks! I would've loved to have filmed more of the main building but I was unarmed and didn't wanna take the risk.

It would be interesting to know, is this site considered a historical site. If so that maybe the reason the project keep falling through. If it is registered as a historical site they have strict guidelines in what can be torn down and what has to remain and just be remolded. A lot of times it’s more expensive to remodel than to just tear down. Just a thought.

there's plaques along the river explicitly about the history of the brewery, not sure if it's actually technically recognized as historic and for any preservation. That genuinely could be why so many plans don't make it far with the brewery

The reason Mulebach changed the name was anti-German backlash. Remember this was at the precipice of WWII and only 20 years after WWI. The German community was very sensitive to assaults on their patriotism at that time.

It needs to be put to rest. Demolishing is the cure. Possibly a park in its place.

I’m not happy about this. They should brew Lone Star in San Antonio where it belongs.

There were a series of cabins at the river, that pioneers of our country lived at for a while, what happened to them?

Love how they tore down the buildings then put it up for sale... Down on Greyson and gristmill are owned by Greystreet street partners boycott Them If ur tired of seeing them destroy San Antonio landmarks for no reason..
@thesaexplorer
@thesaexplorer 2 года назад
I agree. They could've incorporated most of the buildings there for their future plans. The main building that still stands I believe is the original building from 1934 when it was Sabinas brewery, and sadly the buckhorn saloon and museum was lost in a fire a few years back
