I find it kind of ironic that Henry kept any potential suitors away from Mary because they're children would be A threat to edward but Edward ended up dying young.

I always loved the thought experiments of what if Edward hadn't died, the whole era was just so touch and go.

Massive respect to the narrator for not only accuracy of the time line and events thereon but also to pronunciation of names and places. Liked, subscribed.

You really never disappoint, I’m always really happy to see your content in my subscriptions and Patreon notifications! I also feel like Edward VI is often overshadowed by his father and sisters because of how young he was when he both came to power and died so it was nice to see a thorough look at him. I’ve never been disappointed with your work but it’s always a massive delight to see often overlooked monarchs being given their proper attention. Wonderful work once again! I’m a Plantagenet and Stuart person first and foremost though so I am waiting with bated breath for James VI & I, William & Mary, and Queen Anne.

Always look forward to your videos. I hope you're doing well. Also I hope wherever you decide to stop in the British dynasty, you will consider going backwards to the kings before The Conqueror and/or consider other countries.

Loss of hair at Edward’s young age and especially, loss of fingernails, are symptoms of heavy-metal (for example, arsenic) poisoning, as are many of his other symptoms. I suspect he would have recovered from his respiratory infection had he not been poisoned, either deliberately or to affect a “cure” for his respiratory illness, he was young and very healthy before it. I think Dudley was poisoning him slowly, then speeded it up to its fatal conclusion after he had completed arranging the marriage of his young son, Guilford Dudley, to Lady Jane Grey, to whom he influenced Edward to leave the crown. He expected to become de facto ruler of England through his manipulation and control of these two young people. His extreme anger at Jane’s refusal to grant his son the title of King is documented, she apparently resisted both his and his son’s attempted domination and control of her during her brief “reign”. I think Edward and Jane, and perhaps Guildford were ultimately sacrificed to the hubris and ambition of Dudley.

The more I delve into Edward's reign, the more I sideeye Dudley! You brought up valid points. It does beg the question of how long it was a topic of discussion to disinherit Mary and Elizabeth, though. Perhaps Edward had voiced this desire long before he had the law passed for Dudley to feel enough assurance that Jane Gray would be the chosen heir.

doesn't make sense though as Dudley would have needed Edward's declaration to become founded. (and not just up in the air)

I always notice that the fact that British royalty were fighting against Rome (the church) WAY before Henry VIII. Beckett, anyone? And they had a point. The church always threatened invasion, and excommunication. Lots of excommunications, invasions, not so much. Can’t really think of one where the church actually sent troops, whom everyone was so terrified of. 🤷‍♀️. To me, it seems like “you will go to hell”, was always the response.

The 1549 Prayer Book is one the most beautiful and most influential documents in the English language! It's Preface sets forth one of the most shinning statements of Anglicanism: "THERE was never any thing by the wit of man so well devised, or so surely established, which (in continuance of time) hath not been corrupted . . . ."

A basic introductory video. Two points: 1) The Earl of Hartford wasn’t “raised” to the Dukedom of Somerset, it wasn’t a passive thing, he conveniently granted this title, and the associated assets to himself, using his authority as Lord Protector. 2) You don’t explain why Thomas Seymour was attainted. This is why: he broke into King Edward’s private bedroom at night, with the apparent intention of kidnapping him, and used violence, including shooting Edward’s pet dog, who, naturally, barked in alarm at his break-in (a good dog protecting his young master). I think the video would be clearer and less clunky if you just used the names or titles (i.e. King Henry) of persons, especially if you’ve already introduced them, so you don’t have to say “his mother’s brother”, etc., every time.

So even though they all hated each other Mary was at Edward’s Christening AND was chosen to be godmother? I cannot even begin to imagine how bizarre the family dynamics were with Henry and his kids.

Yes, you’re right. That’s one reason that I suggested that the video producer just stick to names, there’s more opportunity for error and it only makes the video confusing.🙂

"A dumbed down, simplified service"? Maybe not as showy, but far more accessible to the masses and far more filled with actual theology. Hardly a dumbing down.

Tiny tyrant, fortunately he signed much less death sentences thanks to his early demise. I guess English were very happy when tt moved to his protestant paradise.
