A brief outline of the life and reign of King George V, 1910-1936, in under 6 minutes. For further in depth knowledge, I can highly recommend the book by Jane Ridley. amzn.to/3NetXvu
King George the V single handedly saved monarchy in Great Britain. Without him reforming Socialist Reforms as well as helping labor unions there’s no way the crown would’ve remained. During that time period. It’s one of the biggest reasons why Russia fell. The fact that so many other monarchy countries foul after World War I speaks volumes of how important his reign was to preserving the monarchy in Great Britain.
The name was suggested by Arthur Bigge, 1st Baron Stamfordham, who was a trusted advisor to King George and had served as private secretary to Queen Victoria. And it was chosen because the name sounded British and had a long association with monarchy in Britain, through the town of Windsor, Berkshire, and Windsor Castle. The Shakespeare's play The Merry Wives of Windsor further ensured the familiarity of the name with the public. There were some other suggestions included Plantagenet, Tudor-Stuart, Guelph, and Fitzroy but all were rejected because they were considered to have negative connotations.
