I like OB, and of course it’s great to see such confidence, but you are right. Anyone thinking they are in Z’s league in terms of log pressing is not paying attention. If anything Stoltman breaks it before OB does.

Z said in an iterview that he belived he could have gone up towards 240kg if he had focused only on the log sometime during hes best overhead years 2012-2015 before hes neck injuri. But he was going for the competition wins and not only the records like some of the athletes have a chanse to do these days :)

Don't sleep on Luke Stoltman. A lot of hype about his brother, but he's gone strength to strength, especially since going full time on strongman. Also big props to the respect between him, Hicks, Iron B and all. Everyone pushing for the press cheers each other on and gives the nod unlike some other lifts we've seen recently.

I get why things have had to evolve, but I love the old format of Strong guys from all fields, having random, irregular tasks thrown at them and seeing who copes best. I get why its an era that would be hard to replicate now, but I think in some ways it was better than what we have now? Not a criticism of the current guys, they are doing what they have to.

@standepain
@standepain 4 года назад
Z in 2014 was just an animal. That 205 kg for 4 at the Arnold was just insane. I'm pretty sure he was well above 230 that day.
@AA-ps4zp
@AA-ps4zp 4 года назад
I honestly think he had more than four reps that day too. They all looked very comfortable. Its safe to say at times he could've taken the record over 228kg. He was still winning the Arnold and wsm titles in that time, for someone who isnt a defending champion and wants to train specifically for the lift it's a little different. Luke is a beast no doubt but Big Z will always be the GOAT of strongman AND log even when the record is taken.

4:49 - "Unbelievably, since that day in Moscow in 2005, Zydrunas is the only man to hold the log lift world record." Yeah this is incredibly impressive. I looked this up a few weeks ago when Oberst said that the WR went back and forth between him and Zydrunas, which I knew straight away was a load of bullshit. Always great to hear from Loz, not only is he one of the strongest (and among the most underrated) to do the sport, competing in an incredibly difficult era against Big Z and Shaw, but his videos are well presented and well researched. Always great to hear from a humble and honest man, particularly one who is elite at their discipline.
@Maddolis
@Maddolis 4 года назад
I think if the focus on the loglift was as strong as the focus on the deadlift over the past 3-4 years, with the same financial bonuses for breaking the record, it probably would've been broken already. I reckon it'll be broken within the next couple of years for sure though.
@baby_jade94
@baby_jade94 4 года назад
Oberst chats shit. The really sad thing is that Oberst makes it sound like he's up there with Z as the greatest at log. Yet in competition his max has been beaten by Z, Biby, Hicks, Thor, Radz, Mateusz, Kearney, Savatinov, Shaw, Hall and those are just off the top of my head. 😂 Big Z was truly in a league of his own.

Look at all of Bill Kazmaier's record lifts at 1:15, 1:57 and 2:25. Even though he didn't have to do it this way, it looks like he opted to handicap himself somewhat just to prove how great he was by trying to adhere to more strict overhead press rules by using next to no leg drive at all (everyone else at the time and since was/ has been using as much leg drive as they can). Just imagine what he could have achieved if he wasn't trying to nearly strict press all of his lifts like that and if he wasn't having to deal with the much more awkward (larger diameter logs forcing the lifters to have to lean back much more just to find a decent balance point, etc) and more primitive equipment they all had to face back in the day.

Really enjoying these videos Loz! And the amount of time and dedication you put into the research on each event really shows. Would be great to follow this one up with a history of the axle press world record! Really curious what Kaz could have done with the logs of today Bill was such a beast 💪 That man was so far ahead of his time, and probably the only athlete from back then that, with modern advancements in the sport that modern strongman have at their disposal, could hang with, and possibly even beat, the top guys of today Kaz definitely is the living legend of strongman! And in my eyes one of the best of all time (Still say he would have had 5, 6, maybe even 7 WSM titles if they didn’t tuck tail and run to let someone else win... And even though Kaz had pretty poor technique, the incredible amount of pure raw power and strength he had to press those up like that...it’s breathtaking even today!! And I have to admit I think it’s more enjoyable to watch a raw press than a press with leg drive. A raw press really shows how powerful the shoulders of some of these tanks of men really are) I have to give an honorable mention to Eddie Hall He so nearly took this record with a 230 in 2018 He successfully pressed and locked it out, but unfortunately Eddie couldn’t stabilize it well enough to have it count because of an ankle injury And with Ed’s axle press record I personally feel Eddie was the strongest man overhead, narrowly edging out Z which is no small feat But Z had better technique of the two of them (Eddies way of lifting is so reminiscent of Kaz. Little to no leg drive at all, just pure raw pressing power 💪 not the best and certainly makes it harder to hit huge numbers, but it’s so much fun to watch) I personally feel that Luke will take the record, but I bet Biby will take it from Luke less than a year later. And Mateusz will be one hell of a force to watch here as well. I bet those three will bounce the record between them for the next few years And never know, Big Z might just come back to play around with the record once more as well 💪 Someone really needs to name some military equipment after a few of these guys lol
