Hello. Today we take a short dive into the life and legacy of the last, often forgotten, Hanoverian King, WIlliam IV. He has often been remembered for his time in the navy, but his life had many twists and turns as he slowly inched his way to the British throne. I hope I was able to reasonably do his story justice and as always, if I catch any errors, or if any or brought to my attention, I will add them to the errors and corrections section of the video description. Thanks for the positive comments. Yes, Victoria was the last Hanoverian Monarch of Britain, but William was the last Hanoverian King of Britain, which is what I refer to him as throughout the video if I am not mistaken. Please let me know if I refer to him somewhere as the last Hanoverian Monarch, as this would be an inadvertent error and need correction. As far as Victoria goes, no, I doubt her video will come anywhere near my longer videos on the channel. Her reign may have been long, but the major events that took place during her reign that she was directly involved in, tend to be less, or less substantial compared to the events that took place during the reign of the monarchs in centuries past. A lot of this has to due with the changing nature of the monarchy as a whole, as parliament continued to grow in the British political sphere. Nevertheless, I never say never, so we will see how long it ends up. Thanks again, and cheers.

32:33 I sincerely hope this is a true story! it absolutely melted my heart. I hope he did actually, in person, do those things, and it wasn’t some observant servant amending a slight. Because that would be one of the BEST moments in a world of inequality, injustice, corruption, nepotism etc. I’m not ever going to forget that little anecdote. Thank you! Also, I love your channel! Please don’t change your formula- your voice is great, your cadence is awesome. Not too fast or slow, no stressful music or sound effects! As someone who has PTSD, I notice that stuff. I’m always happy to see your notifications. I’m my mind William IV has always been under rated, coming after the flamboyant George IV and preceding the seemingly eternal Queen Victoria. He showed reasonable sense as king after the extravagance of his elder brother, had a quieter coronation and worked through the fraught times of the reform era.

It seems it would have been better for all concerned if George III had allowed his oldest son to enlist in one of the armed forces. It might have done him good, and I don’t think he could have turned out much worse. Plus even if something happened it wouldn’t have been much of a loss, and there were plenty of replacement siblings.

Surely as Queen Victoria didn’t marry until 3 years after succeeding to the throne she should be considered the last Hanoverian monarch rather than William?
