have loved his films since I was 15 and even though Ali wasn't my first of his films it was and remains one of my favorites. The cinematography in tight spaces is so iconic, and that one mirror shot in the shower will be with me till the end. Petra von Kant will allways be closest to my heart, though. the opening shot??

I came into your channel a movie buff with special interest in horror and German Expression and now I literally love to study all film especially the weird stuff! A lot of his former female lovers have said that they think he was just gay but just never fully came to terms with it. One of his exes even said something like "He was a homosexual who needed affection from women, it's that simple and it is that complicated." From what I have read it seems like he had a lot of issues with internalized homophobia, and also had some mysogynistic views. He wanted to be with men but didn't think he could ever have an actual relationship with a man, which is probably why when it came to men he always was with men who were just as self destructive and chaotic as he was. When it came to women it seemed like he did relate with them more on an emotional level. It's theorized that the old woman in Ali Fear Eats the Soul is actually a stand in for Fassbinder himself. However due to him having some mysogynistic issues he probably couldn't be vulnerable around a woman unless he was in a relationship with her. IDK I've rambled on enough and also I cannot some up all of Fassbinder's problems because his issues with himself, his sexuality, his views on women, his views of men, his views on religion, his substance abuse, his politics, his views of German society, and a plethora of other things that if put in a book would be the size of one of those 200 year old bibles that weigh about 5+ kilograms on average.
Excellent and FANTASTIC old film and especially all those German actors....(especially Angst essen Seele (fair eats the soul)) pity he died so young. When you understand and speak German, is even more touching the heart., very touching....This old actrice (also the others), also her own character is a great lady.....

One of the most overrated directors of all time. His movies were a rushed mess and didn't contain any actual heart or deep message. His movies are like a high school project. I have no idea how people like his boring and superficial films. I guess they just want to sound intellectual and politically woke, lol! BS director. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY.
