Thankyou for being such a good teacher! Honestly, the amount of videos online that "explain" this model and yet don't even bother to explain the concept of working memory is actually shocking! I wish I had just come to your video first.

Hello from England. Great explanation. I was ready to rip out my hair until I came across this video. Do you have a similar video on the Multi Store Memory Model?

Thanks for this resource. Can I just ask, is reading text processed by the phonological loop or the visual sketch pad, since it seems to involve elements of both (verbal processing and visual processing)? Cheers.
@ThemanticEducation
@ThemanticEducation 3 года назад
That's a great question. I think it would depend on what you're reading and why. If you're reading a novel and using your imagination to picture the scene, this is visuospatial. If you're reading text and can hear it in someone else's voice (e.g. sometimes I do this when reading a poem), it's phonological loop. Remember it only becomes working memory when the words come off the page and you are thinking about them - if you're just reading text like this and it's easy to comprehend, this isn't working memory it would be information processing. The question you've asked is a PERFECT example of critical thinking.

@@ThemanticEducation Hey! You said "if you're just reading text like this and it's easy to comprehend, this isn't working memory it would be information processing", but I hear your voice as I am reading your comment. Would that not be working memory in the form of phonological processing?
@ThemanticEducation
@ThemanticEducation 3 года назад
@@niryenzina2205 perhaps it depends how hard you have to concentrate. Working memory is information held in our CONSCIOUS attention, so if you're deeply focusing on the content and consciously holding hte information in working memory, then yes (different, for example, to hearing a song in the background). but these grey areas are excellent critical thinking.
