A Brightline Station for Stuart! Station Location Announcement - March 4, 2024

On March 4, 2024, Brightline announced that its next station would be located in Stuart, FL. In this video, I take a look at the future station site and the features it has to meet Brightline's needs. I also take a look at the St. Lucie River Bridge (Stuart Drawbridge) where Brightline is also soon to begin a project to build a new double track bridge.

It would appear it paid out they greeted the inaugural train with a water salute from the local fire department. :) You once have said, Stuart was anti-Brightline like no other community along the Treasure Coast. Would be interesting to know what changed their mind. By the end of the day, the pros of a train station are clear at fitst glance. Weekend trips to Miami with no congestion on I-95 and you even could knock down a few drinks on South Beach Ocean Drive and ride home safely the same night. Now let's see what Melbourne will do.

It's good to see the first of the infill stations between West Palm Beach and Orlando having been approved. Here's to hoping there's a couple more to follow soon. Honestly makes me think rail travel has a bright future (pun intended) in Florida with Brightline. Shame about the route to Tampa not having been approved this time round, though that doesn't stop them from trying to get approval in the future. The upgrade to the bridge seems like a great idea to remove the last bottleneck on the line, as does making sure that the new station will have separate tracks for its platforms to allow through traffic whilst a train is in the station. As others have said, I do hope as many of the existing trees at that parking lot can be saved as it'd be a shame to lose so many mature trees.

Nice coverage. Stuart better upgrade the mass transit. A parking garage is nice and all but having frequent bus service to/from the station would be best. That's what I love about the Miami Central station along with both the West Palm Beach/Fort Lauderdale ones. Eventually Aventura will have the walkbridge from the mall and be serviced by Miami-Dade's Northeast Corridor commuter service.

From WC, It looks like Stuart will be a welcome addition to the Brightline route and the concept shown seems to fit in well! The only thing I would hope is that as many trees as possible could be saved or any that could not be saved would be replaced by new pretty trees! Also I know a certain number of stations would allow access by the greatest number of riders, but Brightline has to be careful not to add too many stations so the trains would not be stopping every ten minutes! I also hope consideration is being given to add a route through theme parks and on to Tampa!

I am walking distance from Brightline tracks on the south end of Stuart and frankly I didn’t expect Stuart to get a station at all!

Also I noticed that they doubled up the rail crossing between Tequesta and Jupiter, but it just didn’t register with me that the double tracks go to single crossing the St. Lucie estuary because the freight line and Brightline have to share until the new bridge is built!

They will always need to share the ROW. It is just a double track railway with mixed use.

This is a winner even before construction. Stuart is the definition of pleasant. I would have spent more time there if not for the 30-minute (if you're lucky) drive on I-95. Were I still there this would be a welcome diversion. Another excellent review, Austin.

Upon further review (through a murky haze) I realize that drive from downtown WPB to Stuart was ONE HOUR under the best of conditions. No wonder I didn’t do it often AND further proof of the new depot’s success.

It’s interesting to me that ALL of the hate and opposition against the BIG CHOO CHOO came directly from this city. Glad their tone has changed and will now benefit from it! Way to Go Stuart!! 😊😊

I think it's safe to assume that 10 years from now, we'll look back at this and see that this was just 0.0001% of Brightline's total plans for the future. Even so, it'll be exciting seeing what Brightline will build next!

I filmed this on a weekend but during the week it seems to be fairly busy with people parking for the nearby courthouse

So if I understand correctly, the new 2 track ROW alignment and bridge will be built between the current ROW and Dixie Hwy? Two new infrastructure projects along the route is good news indeed!

The more Brightline stations, the better. But I’d like there to be a station in Fort Pierce and/or Melbourne in the future.

Well more than likely, from rumors in the past, an additional station will be built further north, either in Cocoa or Melbourne. I would even go as far to say that maybe Brightline might consider a local train and connect the dots. A commuter type line operating from Miami all the way to Orlando on the FEC has tremendous potential.

@@markydee48 They don't need commuter service along the whole line, but certainly extra commuter trains on the southern portion of the line going into Miami and connecting the dots with smaller stations skipped by the express trains would be a great idea and transform Brightline from just an express service to a true regional rail provider.

With all the protesting and backlash Stuart unleashed during the MCO expansion, they don't deserve a station. Now, that being said, that was the guv'ment. The people came out in force on opening day with banners of support.

Stuart is a surprisingly big town/small City actually so could be surprisingly busy. Used to live in Port Saint Lucie on the North side of the outlet to the Ocean and both are nice actually. Good to see they're taking their time but hopefully build this really nice/premium as i don't think there is an Airport in the area so this is it for "high speed."

What is the history of this parking lot? Was there a building in the middle where the grass patch is? Was it a station once upon a time? Or it is Florida, is it a parking lot for parking lot sake? lol I kid

I don't know the full history but based on the historical aerial imaging, it has been a parking lot for at least the last 20 years. The grass patch is for drainage for the parking lot.

The new bridge will be double track, eliminating the bottleneck.
