So basically the past and future can only crush you if you think they are actually real and you are a little person stuck in a little sliver of time called the now. If you take up your position of power in the now (as the eternal observer, not a little time-bound person), the now becomes eternal instead of a little sliver of time, and the past memories and thoughts about the future become little specks of dust in a vast field of potentialities that one can choose to conjure up in the now, one at a time. This is one of the most profound and empowering realizations.

I believe that most of us were as insightful as this kid when we were young, we just accepted time among other constructs, to be a part of reality instead of just perceiving it as an instrument and a unit of measurement. as a kid my imagination was similar, as well as many other kids.

One thing though. Now is the past after a while. We cannot travel to past they say. Well.. I am presently living in my past if I look at it from the pov of my future. What if I am experiencing my own past right now, like 5y back? How can I know it for sure that my future has not yet happened? If Now is an eternity. Then so is past, and so is future too. I am writing this in my past, present and the future. We easily come to the conclusion that time is not real.
Just wondering if our "now" is limited to what we are experiencing and hence time does not exist for us when we sleep. Our "now" can also be experienced by others around us, and so, if someone was watching us sleep, surely that time has existed. Just because we do not personally experience the time, doesn't mean it didn't exist. The body, is only part mind, and the body experiences sleep in many ways and that experience and the quality of the sleep affects your waking "now". I do, however, agree with the eternal now. Many years ago, I've written a poem about my understanding of the same.
Mind is always present ....over simplifying by focusing on a single concept , thought or idea to put all else down can bring a rest bite from the chaos of a self in an infinite reality but takes practice and effort. To lead a mind is easy after the subjected mind yields into admitting what is to come isn't known.... The concept ( ego) takes over in the small mindedness suggesting it does.
The demonstration is still uncomplete.Advaita clearly points that ,Once we see clearly that past and future are only a ''now'' Experience, the so called now , is seen just also as an illusion itself , not existing at all. What remains is Pure Existence, having nothing to do with mind. It s every one 's experience that there is not even any ''now'' in deep sleep.. what we call now is just another word for ''I Am'', direct experience of Experience itself. At no point of time (lol) there is anything else existing than pure Existence itself. The question why there is no time in the timeless, is the absurd question of asking where is where, when is when? Absurd attempt to escape the only Reality that there is absolutly nothing happening, not even a now, not even a mind ,with glasses, cause absolutly no one to wear them.
‘No mind is present in sleep’ That’s a bold statement. Thats not my experience when I’m lucid dreaming and literally focusing on the present moment in the dream.
He clarified “there is no time/mind between two waking states and two dream states.” When awake and when dreaming we do “SEEM” to experience time. Though a bit differently. When dreaming there is still some subtle sense of now, but there is no reality checking, and sometimes there is still sense of progression and memory of what was and is being experienced. Lucid dreaming as you know is different as well. But it still is only ever now. Between waking and dream states there is no mind and there is no seeming at all, which is why we don’t experience time when asleep (between dreams).
But are you projecting, recalling, thinking, analysing or examining? That's what is meant by the mind. In a lucid dream you are being spontaneous, so there is 'no mind' in that sense.
Show the patient clocks and calendars gradually, and let them gradually come out of the psychosis or else the trauma of their delusions being contradicted can cause further regression into schizophrenia. We treat patients like this a lot and its sad to see so many young men today with legions on the pre-frotal cortex preventing them from comprehending that seasons change, weather changed (rain, storms, sunny days etc), sun and moon cycle... to dispell the persistent fantasy of time stopping which they grasp to. such basic abilities we take for granted like understanding something as simple as time is not understandable to people with illnesses in this spectrum of psychosis. We had a son who went to some cult for months (called budhism or something like that i think it was), and we never got our beautiful boy back truly thereafter. He only ate plant based foods, saying he had turned into vegamite it sounded like he was saying, (apparently thinking he was a spreadable austrailian dip, possibly triggered by seeing a commercial on tv and self identifying with the product shown on tv) and we decided to sign papers as his legal guardian to lock him permanently in a max security mental hospital afterwards. He actually thought me and his mother were crazy and tried to get a lawyer to help him escape. So tragic, so far gone into delusions... my wife and i are requesting legal motions to allow for euthanasia, but so far the government isnt approving it in most cases. Patients this advanced into the disease deserve the mercy of lethal injection, and for us this is a compassion to provide for our son, not a savage solution. We want whats best for him. He was sitting cross legged... just breathing with his eyes closed for hours a day when he returned home from the cult and thats when we admitted him forcibly to the sanitarium and began multiple high dose anti-psychotic medications. If you hit a deer with your car, the ethical thing to do is finish it off. Please help spread awareness in your community for assisted suicide for those suffering. Basic common sense people.
This guy is conflating chronological time with our psychological conception of time. What you had for breakfast, chronologically, did indeed occur in the past. As for psychological time, it is a consequence of thought. Thought is a mechanism that divorces us from “the now” - from actuality - from what is. When we think, instead of staying with what is, we separate ourselves from it - we observe it from “outside” Presence takes place when we realize that the observer *is* the observed. Which takes place when thought - memory- does not interfere with perception of what is, of “the now” - which is in constant movement. The mechanism of thought is to make “what is” his, or hers. To “own” it. Via the filter of our memory - our ideas, our experiences, our beliefs, our tendencies, our identity, etc.
There are examples, albeit very rare, of people who claim to have visited the past. Not at will, as mentioned here, but by accident. A famous example would be the Moberly and Jourdain case of 1901. Several others cases exist and are sometimes centred on certain places like Bold Street in Liverpool where a few people have claimed independently to have found themselves projected back in time. I don't know whether they're true but they're known as 'time slips' and the witnesses sound quite convincing. Claiming that 'no one has ever gone back in time' would not be true if these cases have any validity.
Duality and nonduality are merely intellectual concepts based in linear dualistic thinking. Ultimately dualism and nondualism are mutually exclusive can't exist without each other, just like a creator and its creations are one and the same, you can't have a mountain without a valley they are mutually exclusive, but there needs to be 2 dualism to be aware or self or self aware. The spark of creation (duality) is inherent in nonduality otherwise no movement/creation would happen, but awareness/creation never started and never ended it just is simultaneously. 1=2 2=1. Even when one goes into maha-samadhi there is still 1% that remains as the observer to report the event in duality. If only nondual that would mean no-thing, no impetus, no existence, the impetus nondualism or cause is inherent in nondualism. There needs to be a subject and object and awareness (duality) to be able to create an object of consciousness or physical. Ultimately subject and object are one and not one they are the same AND not the same.

False Dualistic Mental Assumption = Only what I experience is real and what everyone else experiences is unreal. If I track the stars, go to sleep, my consciousness leaves this realm (but still exists), but upon returning (waking up) the stars have moved as predicted. If there is a three shift factory, when I go home it still exists and others experience it and when I return their work can be witnessed. Confusing the mind with Consciousness is a common error that logicians make. The cycles of time in the spatial realm where continual change, the transformations of matter/energy, are visited by not only my consciousness, but the consciousness of other thinking people and countless life forms. Memory and precognition are not just neurological mental phenomena in the mind, but are effects of Consciousness or Awareness to perceive. The mind is always recalling after the sensory fact. Mental perception (thinking about things) is after the fact of Conscious sensory perception. This is why athletes and musicians need to be 'in the zone' or completely engaged as Consciousness. One false premise, reality is only what I personally experience, leads to many false conclusions.
The “waking up at the same time you fell asleep” experience only happened to me 2 or maybe 3 times when I was a little kid. Never again since. I always feel and sense the time passed while I slept when I wake up. We can differentiate when we sleep for 4 hours vs 10 hours for instance. Not just because of the sleep quality but because the original statement from the kid is false. This whole conversation sounds and seems so brilliant and so cool but it’s all just a philosophical BS, sorry.
Time is just a perception that the mind creates for us to experience the 3D word. To be in the now with our minds is to be in the same frequency of God. It is eternity and where we can be co creators.
What if one person is capable of living in the present moment (‘the Now’), while most people constantly engage in thinking? If there is no mind present during sleep, then how can we be aware of our dreams while sleeping?? And, what about the breakfast he mentioned… The boy ate breakfast earlier in that day, when did he eat breakfast… He’s not eating breakfast now, but he ate breakfast in the past earlier in the day… How do you explain that??

9:12 same as real and unreal, does a chair exist within the differences of all trees? Everything is real but not current. Our minds and planet are expanded but not so much to hold everything just connections. This does not. Make sense .. whatever we have experienced in the past has remained as impressions on our brain called memory . This memory is our experience of the past which we cannot eny . Fiture is unknown due to lack of any impressions of our experience. Experience is of the past impressions etched in our memory . Which also undergoes changes . The real memory is also not real since time as a whole.. past present and the future is in a movement , is in a flow . We are at present waiting to. See the future which is moving towards our present and the past is also moving away from us . Consciousness which is of infinite speed meets both the past and the future . But brain cannot register any impression of consciousness which is devoid of any quality of sight , sound , smell . Taste or touch.
This could also addresse the weird fact that sometimes we can't really say which night we made a certain dream, and whether it's a new dream or the remembrance of an old dream. It could be in fact that we didn't dream it in one particular night.

This is why time travel to the past is impossible, and traveling to the future is highly unlikely, although theoretically possible. We just have to figure out how to travel close to the speed of light... which is also highly unlikely for humans to ever achieve.
He makes it too long. The short answer is time is the change in state of matter and energy in the universe. This includes the state changes of living organisms which is only in one direction, birth, growth, maturity, decay. The starts do the same things is what we observe. I am sure the universe does something similar. So to recap time as we are accustomed to think it’s a mathematical way of making sense of our experience in the universe as it moves from one state to the other in one particular direction, could it be reverted, sure, but the whole universe would have to reverse its state to the previous, and you would have to remember where things were everywhere, course there would not be chance and free will anymore.
