I say goodbye to Phu Quoc Island after a week of adventures and head back to the mainland by ferry. Along the way, I make friends with Hang, an English teacher from Tien Giang.
Hang and I then walk from the ferry to the FUTA Bus Lines terminal to buy our bus tickets. At the FUTA Bus Lines terminal, I notice that they are having a ceremony. It turns out that they have just opened this new office, and they are holding a celebration to bring good luck to its operation.
I take an interest in the ceremony, and the CEO kindly invites us to stay for the party. After the formalities end, a feast is held, complete with a whole spit roast pig and homemade desserts.
Hang acts as an interpreter as we have friendly banter while drinking beer from plastic cups with giant ice cubes.
Eventually, the karaoke machine arrives, and everyone takes a turn. I choose to sing the Men at Work classic "Down Under," and the drinking continues.
The CEO seems to enjoy having us, so he keeps pushing our bus back so that we can stay and enjoy the festivities with him.
This was an unforgettable experience for me. All the staff at the FUTA Bus Lines were extremely kind, welcoming, and a lot of fun to hang out with. I'm extremely grateful for this experience, and I couldn't have done it without my new friend Hang and her great language skills.

@@silas-brownI’m doing very well. It’s great to know you’re in the North now. I don’t spend much time on RU-vid these days so I didn’t see your newest videos until yesterday 😅. I hope you are doing well, too

Good to hear, I'm sure your very busy with your work, which is good. Yes, I made it to the north, finally. I'm going to do some exploring in the areas above Hanoi and then I will be off to explore another country. But everything is going well with me. The channel is slowly growing and has become focused on the subject of local food. All the best 😀

You know it reminds me of an early Bourdain episode, before CNN when he was with the Travel Channel; he was in the north of Vietnam with a communist general and they got roaring drunk. I laughed so hard, it was just hilarious to watch them chug shots and get steadily drunk.
