Did you start your second grader in the second grade paces when switching from CLE?
@mycupoverflows7811
@mycupoverflows7811 11 месяцев назад
Yes. We only made it through about 108 of Learning to Read. He absolutely hated CLE but LOVED the Paces. He did them for 2nd-4th and we're taking a little break this year, but may come back to them.later.

are you still doing ACE? How's it going if you are? I strayed because I got overwhelmed by trying to "catch up" but we are going back and trying it again at a more reasonable pace. I've been seeking a lot of advice lately because I really want to make it work without having super long days.

We are! We just took a 2 week spring break and started our 4th quarter on Monday. My oldest 3 are on track to finish mid-May, and my 2nd grader maybe beginning of June. I'm in the midst of praying and researching about what to tweak for next year, but for the most part the plan is to stick with ACE as our core next year. ❤️ I'm hoping to do an end-of-year update at the beginning of the summer. Hugs! Just remember the curriculum works for you, not the other way around.

Nice to see you glad you are having an awesome year! Chronic Fatigue is starting to creep up on lately but I think its triggered by the change of season and all the political commercials lol. Do you homeschool 1/2 day? We do 8-12 a long day if our morning gets derailed.
@mycupoverflows7811
@mycupoverflows7811 3 года назад
I hear you on the political commercials!🤮 My oldest 3 kids are responsible for getting their own work done. One knocks it out by lunch the other 2 take lots of breaks and often have to be prodded to finish in the afternoon. I always do 1-on-1 with my 7yo around 10am for an hour. I don't do my 4yo's school every day, but his is usually some time in the afternoon when he needs a distraction. My other kids randomly come to me when they need me to check something or listen to them read. We don't have a strict schedule (not my forte lol).

@@mycupoverflows7811 hello. How can a child with Celebral pulsey be accommodated in the ACE curriculum.
@mycupoverflows7811
@mycupoverflows7811 3 года назад
@@marthanamusoke7943 that would be a great question for the ACE homeschool help team. I'm thinking reading to them and they can answer orally, or if they're able to read, give you answers orally. I would also cut down on the number of subjects you do with them. My 2nd grader is doing 4 ACE subjects, and even with those, his reading has improved dramatically this year. I've been so impressed. Hugs! Hope you're able to accommodate this precious child. 😘

What math program are you using? Thanks for the videos!
@mycupoverflows7811
@mycupoverflows7811 3 года назад
This topic has been a thorn in my side! 😩😂 My oldest (8th) is using Mastering Essential Math Skills for prealgebra and also doing a lesson a day of pre-geometry through ctcmath. My next 3 (6th, 5th & 2nd) are using the free math program from www.plainandnotsoplain.com The older 2 are doing 2 pages a day and the 2nd grader finished 2nd grade math and is slowly working on the 3rd grade math while doing some review on ctcmath. We were using ctcmath for several years, but we needed more regular review of learned concepts. They'll occasionally hit something they don't know, so I'll have them watch the lesson and do the questions for the topic on ctcmath for that day, then go back to p&nsp. I have the Learn Math Fast program and plan to try it next year. We'll see how that goes...😬

@@mycupoverflows7811 Hi! Thanks for your video and info. I am just looking into math curriculum for my 8th grade son and 6th grade twins, I was wondering, is there a reason you don't use ACE Paces for math? I came across your other video how you love ACE and are going back to it, but I see you are using something different for math. Have you tried it and don't like it? Or do you like CTC better? Thanks a bunch =)

I was hoping you could answer something for me. My daughter is doing CLE for reading, ela and math. She takes about 1/2 hour for each subject by the time she gets to science and history she is tired of bookwork. I am reevaluating for next year but I wanted to know your thoughts on ACE vs. CLE specifically their science, history and English thank you!
@mycupoverflows7811
@mycupoverflows7811 3 года назад
I would wholeheartedly endorse switching over. As much as I've loved CLE, I'm pretty sure that we will go with ACE for my last 2 kids of 6. We went through exactly what you're experiencing, and the thought of doing it again gives me a headache. 😢 My 5th child will be in K next year and we may use CLE K and when we finish, ease into ACE 1st. I'm sitting with my 2nd grader in ACE and it's so great. He's gaining so much independence and confidence.
@mycupoverflows7811

Sorry my 3yo is having a meltdown so I didn't finish... We don't use ACE math, and if your child is having success, do continue. Another option to consider is just do formal 3Rs ) reading, writing, and arithmetic) and use read alouds and interest-led learning for Science and history on the younger years (up to 4th or 5th grade) and then switch to formal book work. We used Beautiful Feet Books history of science one year for history and science and it was super enjoyable. I hope I'll outgrow my fear of burnout enough to use literature based learning again with my little ones.

We have used ctcmath for the past 5 years, and I'm really pleased with it. My youngest 2 do not use it yet, but my 4 oldest (4rh, 7th, 8th & 10th grades) use it.

You mentioned you are using the art paces. What are those like? I can’t find any info on them anywhere! What age do you think they are best for?
@mycupoverflows7811
@mycupoverflows7811 3 года назад
My daughter really likes them. They're very dated, and I don't believe they've ever been updated like the more common subjects. Some of the supplies were under an old-fashioned name, but by googling I was able to figure out everything she needed. She's worked on shading, perspective, watercolors, shadows, and shapes. I think she's doing facial expressions and comic book art right now. I've looked ahead and there's a felt board project in one of the later paces (thankfully we have a stack of leftover felt from previous project). It's a nice curriculum for a child who prefers very independent learning specifically from books (my daughter doesn't like video classes as much as book instruction). The Beginning Art is for Junior High and possibly early high school, and the Advanced Art is for high school. She'll be 9th grade next year, so she'll probably do the Advanced then. Hope this helps a bit!

How far did you get in CLE 1st grade before switching over to ACE? And where did you start the ACE? Did you start after the point the manuels were needed and just used the Paces? I am using CLE with my 1st grader & ACE with my high schoolers. The CLE seems to be too much for my little guy and he dreads doing school. I have been considering switching him over but I'm not sure when the best time would be.
@mycupoverflows7811

I think we finished 108 in Learning to Read (the red books), which I believe is about halfway through 1st grade. We did the corresponding LA books, so I think we were in 103 or 104 when we stopped, and that was doing it alllll of last school year and through the summer. If your little guy is still 1st grade age, I would recommend going down to half a lesson a day and taking a week off here and there to do a lapbook or something fun. I have never used ACE 1st grade (seriously rethinking that for my next little guy coming up!), So I don't know anything about it yet. At the point where we left off in CLE my 7yo was easily able to start ACE level 2 and it's even a little easy for him, which I LOVE. He still struggles with reading and reads aloud his Sci and SS to me.
