Well, I didn't make any drawings and it has been tailor made for the CP4. In hindsight I would have made it a little deeper though, to have more room for the plugs and speakers. The only thing that isn't apparent in the video, is that there is a metal 3 cm square tube underneath the hinge, for re-enforcement of the top. What would you like to know?
It looks amazing, if I may ask the sound from the piano speakers will not be affected since it becomes inside a wooden box? it could be it is a silly question but according to physics that can happen. I am asking as I am planning to build a shell too but I am a bit confused about the sound quality.
Wisam, You're absolutely right. The piano has no speakers of its own. Fortunately the CP4 has a five band equalizer with 5 dedicated sliders. I use it to lower the middle low and to give the mid high a bit extra. When I play, the flap on the keyboard side is always open, which makes the sound brighter. The flap on the round side is nice when you play before an audience. It opens smoothly, with a cheap hydraulic piston, in an angle of around 60 degrees. Underneath I have built in a 2x50W (s.m.e.l.) amp with two high quality multicone car speakers, facing upwards under an angle of 30 degrees. That is more than enough to reach the volume of an acoustic piano without any clipping. Some people find that the shell adds to a natural piano sound. Even more when it is closed.
Hi Cara, most people wouldn't bother to ask, very kind of you. I don't mind. This video was practice for me in making video's, because I am a teacher myself.
Super nice! Any chance to get drawings or a more in depth description on how you did it? I’m looking for this type of solution for a stage piano for my church! :)
Thanks Joakim! I do not have drawings from it. The cabinet is custom built for the CP4 so measurements will probably be wrong for other piano's. I don 't know what kind of info you're looking for. I could give you some more information about the construction in a personal message, but I can 't make out which JH you are on FB. Look me up and send me a pm.
I have considered a keyboard cover, but finally rejected the idea. It would make the cabinet bigger. In my case there is no room to slide it in, because there is a steel stability tube under the hinge of the top. A removable keyboard cover with two hinge pins would be my option, but I don't find it practical. Besides, I like the view of the keys, juist not the electronics.
@@joostevers280 Ahh I see. I also like seeing the keys, but I'd rather have a cover to protect it from dust. I have considered one of those removable cloth covers, but they don't look the best. Anyways, I appreciate your response. Thanks! :)
