I can't believe the wisdom Tom was able to impart to you over a simple interview. To be able to leave the 18th green with his hand around your shoulder with that story is nothing but magical.
Listening to him talk reminds me of my grandfather. Something about men from that era, they’re made of better stuff and have so much wisdom. Thanks for this.
I grew up in Kansas City and attended a 9 hole charity event that Tom organized with Tom Kite, Greg Norman, and Peter Jacobson. 1985 or 86. It was great, one of my favorite sports experiences as a spectator. Watching them all play up close was just incredible. Tom Kite stepped up on one hole and hit a drive I will never forget. Thanks for this video, Watson is one of the all time greats, legend.
What a great interview of an incredibly talented golfer and a man of incredible depth of character. I love listening to his perspective on golf and life.
We are super bleesed to have Tom Watson as a ambassador to the game of golf....to be able to hear this mans heart on the game that we all love...to hear his wisdom...with his frustrations..and passion for this wonderful game....good job Eric....thank you........this was historic
I watched Tom play on TV when I was young and he was in the finest moments the game has seen. I did not know much about the game and why I thought he was the greatest I had seen, but one time they zoomed in on his face as he was coming down the fairway at Augusta in the latter stages of the final round. That look on his face was indescribable. No doubt, no emotional uncertainty, but absolute determination. This interview is one of the best I have seen for a golfer, sportsman or with anyone in any field of endeavour. I am glad it explains so much about what I felt all those years ago. I was correct in thinking he was the greatest I have ever seen.
I LOVE Tom Watson. I maybe be a bit bias being from Kansas City, but the man is a living legend. Battled demons, and came out on top a better person. Helped David Feherty get sober too. Nothing but love and respect for the man!!
I love Tom Watson! He represents my birth state, Missouri, very well! I was so sad how he lost in the playoff in the 2009 since it was a great story, but it could have been legendary. I'm glad to see him play once in person at the Senior PGA Championship in St. Louis a few years ago.
The look of surprise and childlike joy in your face when Tom Watson puts his arm around you, looks you in the eye, and says, "I'm proud of you, Erik." Gave me the chills.
Tom Watson, truly a legend. Always such a gentleman and a scholar of this wonderfully frustrating game. Excellent video Erik, thank you for what you do.
Thanks for these sort of interviews. It feels like to me, the viewer is part of the conversation and i am sitting at that table and talk about our passion. In the end we all "just" share the same passion and once talking golf ... we are all one.
That was a wonderful interview with a legend. Mr. Watson's story telling about his duel with Mr.Nicklaus gave me chills. What a life lesson about respect. Respect for others, the game of golf, and one's self. Learn to accept the bad bounces as well as the good, and never surrender. I appreciate all your content Erik, but you've out done yourself on this one, as an honorary member of The Random Golf Club, we are proud of you...
Mr Watson is an absolute gentleman, I remember being inspired by him when he lost to Stewart Cink. He was so magnanimous in defeat. It inspired me to go to Turnberry and play the course, my daughter was conceived that weekend. Tom Watson, truly changed my life. Thank you Mr Watson.
Oh man - this is absolutely your calling in life. To document the great game - the great tournaments, the great personalities. This interview with one of the greatest was humbling and inspiring at the same time. Your natural love and enthusiasm for the history and tradition of golf shows through for every second of the 30-minutes you spend with this remarkable guy. You did great at Winged Foot too. I hope for many more of these sorts of in depth interviews with so many of the legends of the sport. I almost shed a tear when Tom walked off the green with you at the end. What a life experience for you. Respect man.
Absolutely love this video. Players today do not have this sort of grace and humility. I had the pleasure of caddying in a group at Augusta with Gary Player and it was very much the same. The grace and humanity that players from that era have in unlike anything today. The stories and respect for the game and those that play is unrivaled in my opinion. We need more like Mr Watson!
My all time golfing hero with one of the finest filmmakers there is..... 2 legends in their respective fields and both in love with this beautiful game. Thank you
This chat was the epitome of the great game of golf. A relaxing chat between two gentlemen about the game they love, plus the unique experience of links golf and the Open. Many thanks Rod
EAL and Team thank you for taking us on your incredible journey with Tom Watson. This interview just leaves you in awe. Once again thank you keep up the great work!
what better way to finish a vlog with tom watson with his arm around you walking off the 18th green. i have always loved watching tom play, with dignity and class. he just proved it here. excellent interview Erik.
Eric thank you so much for making this video, I play links golf here in the UK (Berwick area) and I totally get what Tom and yourself meant. To play links golf is one of life's great pleasures good score or not.
I love Tom's knowledge of The Open, go back and Watch Erik's Unofficial/Official Guide to Scotland and one episode in particular goes into detail about The Open, it's like listening to that all over again! Stunning film work and what eloquent speakers. Thank you Erik + Team and thank you Tom ❤️
The conversation regarding the belt and claret jug when I realise that you are aware of the story Tom is telling but you still let him tell it, you don’t interrupt, and you are still clearly enthralled by what you are hearing. You are a gent and a pro at interviewing people that you obviously value and appreciate. Your a star. 🌟
Interesting insight from Tom that he was not originally a fan of Link's golf. Even after he had won a couple of Open's, he was still struggling with accepting the bounces and outcomes which come on a Link's course. I would have lost that bet. Wonderful interview, really enjoyed listening to him talk about Golf and how it parallel's life in general.
What a credit to humanity let alone golf …..got his autograph in the 70’s at the Piccadilly world match play at Wentworth , took a day off school ….happy days
Absolutely loved this video. I seldom comment on anything on youtube. But this video was truly something special. Reminded me so much of my grandfather, who ultimately was the one who got me into golf. He gave me my first set of clubs when he was getting too old to play. I still think of him every time I go out to play. I love how Erik always shows different perspectives around the game of golf and how the game means different things to different people. This video definitely hit a soft spot with me. Thanks for sharing this!
I love the closing scene as he recounts the finish at Turnberry. A special moment to have him grasp your shoulder showing the respect he had for you at the end.
Mr Watson a giant of the game we all love and a idol of mine growing up, Erik great interview I could have listened to Mr Watson speak for hours you now have a treasured memory of walking off the green with his arm around you.
I grew up playing "Ram Tom Watson Signature Clubs" I remember when he chipped in at Pebble Beach for the win, he was and remains my favorite golfer. Thanks, Tom.
I had a chance to hold the scorecard for Tom's 4some at the Phoenix Open in 1996. John Elway was apart of the 4some and absolutely blew Tom away with natural athletic ability. While walking down the 3rd fairway Watson asked Elway, "I see that you have a small limp in your walk". They just laughed at one another and kept walking. It was amazing to see Tom turn it on when Elway was throwing darts on the back 9.
What an absolute gentleman very classy guy. I have Tom’s “Lessons of a lifetime “ videos and some of those stories are on them. I am always referring back to them for ways to play the many shots we need in this game. If you watch and listen to a champion like Tom you won’t go far wrong Great video Erik
i know im asking the wrong place but does any of you know a tool to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my password. I love any tricks you can offer me
@Sutton Kenzo Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Tom is an absolute legend and inspiration. Carries himself with humility, class and dignity. What I wouldn't give to play one round with him after watching him since the early 80s. All of them, Seve, Arnold, Jack, Fuzzy...these new guys are good but I don't see the personality of these legends.
I am so grateful to have had someone like this in my life that I was able to look to for strength, guidance and support. Something about this kind of person... Not perfect, because believe it or not, no one is, but rooted in being the absolute best they can be, and being okay with whatever the result might be. Because knowing you TRULY did your best, was what said the most about you as a person. I see my Grandfather in pieces of my life everyday, and I am eternally grateful to him for many things. Golf only being one of them.
It would of be incredible he was 59 years old ! No one has ever come anywhere near winning a major at that age. I’m so upset he didn’t win I have never watched the highlights since . A great man
Love this...I can't believe that Tom Watson said golf finally became easy for him in 1994! What!? All those majors and he "figured" it out when he was 45 :)
FantASTIC interview. I couldn't have loved this anymore. For future reference please put the camera on a tripod lol. It got a little better around the 10 minute mark, but I can't tell if its a shaky hand, or the shitty video stabilization that youtube offers. Either way when I tried to blow it up real big it felt like I was on a boat. Fantastic video, once in a lifetime opportunity and damn did you knock this out of the park. I'll be watching this again eventually :)
Tom Watson is an amazing person. Just a true gent and professional. As a side, please don’t film in front of a window, I really want to see toms expressions and see how he reacts to your great questions.
EAL asked Tom if he’s cried during his career...Well I cried at the end of this video. How cool was that, to walk off 18 with his arm around you just like Jack? I’ll alway remember Tom looking out into the ocean in ‘09 just taking it all in for the last time.
I like to remember how he struck his drive and his iron on that 72nd hole. Those swings under that pressure were extremely gutsy. Didn't work out for him in the end, but that's golf. That week was legendary.
I was sick as a pig that day. Tom winning the open that day would have had as much gravitas as tiger's emergence. 59 years old winning the open!!! Whats worse is cink disappearing from the world stage afterwards. The wrong man won.
