After a month on the market, this catastrophic listing hasn’t attracted a single buyer. No one has put an offer but Sofie is here to help!
Why do you think this property hasn't yet received an offer?
The Unsellables - From Season 2 Episode 6 "Colour Catastrophe": Since they’ve already bought an even bigger property, Michelle and Shawn are desperate to sell their three-bedroom home. With its gracious appointments, landscaped gardens, and award-winning waterfront community setting, the home should be a runaway success... But with its manic color scheme, hidden features, oddball knickknacks, and over-personalized interiors, the property is completely unsellable.
In order to appeal to the broadest range of buyers, Sofie steps in with a knock out design plan. And while Anthony and the team neutralize the paint colors, repurpose the furniture, and improve curb appeal, Sofie walks the homeowners through the basics of real estate 101.
The Unsellables - Can a slick makeover and big sales campaign help desperate homeowners sell their ‘unsellable’ homes? Packed with practical advice and tips to add real value to your house, this bold series hosted by Sofie Allsopp, shows viewers how to transform unwanted properties into unstoppable homes.

The softer color they painted it was still different from the other houses, but it was more appealing to more people than the old loud color. People like a statement of "I'm unique!", but most don't like to scream it. Screaming "I'm unique!" is for the inside---as long as you're not selling. 😉

I think the biggest problem with the blue garage is it makes their house look shabby compared to their neighbors. The new color doesn’t scream “Deferred Maintenance”. All the message signs are incredibly dated too. You can’t tell me what to do 😝

In 20 yrs. as a Real Estate agent, we learned that homes with blue carpeting and/or a predominance of blue were the most difficult to sell. Perhaps blue is seen as a color the most difficult to integrate their furniture and decor of other colors into.
@marilynndesilva7620
@marilynndesilva7620 2 года назад
@@marilynwilkins7296 I find the obsession with green in these makeover videos a bit odd. Why is lime green more desirable as an accent color than, say, blue or violet in the family room? We're putting our house (rural northern California) on the market soon. LR carpet is slate blue. Kitchen blue & white, but the blue is in small doses. I love blue, but I can see how large areas of bright hues would be too much. Most of our walls are ivory, because being in a wooded area the gray and taupe shades would feel too cold. I'm glad we don't have to "match" the other houses in our neighborhood. There are literally no two alike and nobody gives a hoot about the lack of uniformity.

I get that you have to take the personality out when it comes to selling a place. But I honestly hate having to market to people who have no personality who think something like this is "cool". Down with big box homes!
@drewconway7135
@drewconway7135 2 года назад
Filling your house with cheugy encomiums to the status quo like signs that say “FAMILY” or “GATHER” or some variation of “LIVE/LAUGH/LOVE” is hardly what I would call “personality.”

The basket ball net is not a selling feature? I like how the furniture is arranged? You are buying a house, the walls, the services, the garden...not the furniture! How can people not see past the existing colours and furnishings and look at the layout, the condition of the fabric of the house? The sellers were happy to spend around 3k changing it, why not take on that cost yourself if you are buying and get the colours you want? Look past the furniture and decor, you will be bringing your own. Is there no imagination out there?
@janicetribbiani7535
@janicetribbiani7535 2 года назад
You wouldn’t believe how many people cannot see past this stuff. They may think to paint it the color they like, but procrastination is more common than they want to admit. And people are busy or just don’t want to mess with it.

I just bought my first house. I did see beyond the horrible paint colors and terrible decor. I bought it in a seller’s market for $40,000 under the bank appraisal and asking price. The owner had already bought another house and after five months of paying two house mortgages, was desperate to sell. The moral of the story, most people can’t see beyond bad color choices and bad decor. Even if some can, most people want to be able to remove right in, not pay for a complete paint job on the interior.

Having bought and sold single home and apartment buildings, the answer is "NO, most people have no imagination whatsoever". The seller needs to make up a fantasy of the happy home through color and furnishings. I sold my last house in a week - while decorated for Christmas! It was subtle and traditional, but highlighted the 1920's era home, hardwood floors and small patio. I had 2 couples bidding on it, and sold above my original price - in SEVEN days. You've got to know your market, and how to position your property vs the competition.

I'd be more comfortable about this show if she was vaguely tactful. On my monitor, at least, the blue had and period look. Calling it garish is just rude. Why not just focus on it not being neutral enough? There's just no reason to ridicule people's taste on television -- or in person, for that matter.
