No one can surpass Rev. Flemming singing old meter songs. In this song you will get a glimpse of the old traditional way of music that takes us back to our African American roots. This is one of the best of his accapella selections.

This is the old southern church on display here when I was a child growing up in the sixties and seventies! My Lord, it brings chills down my spine to hear this amazing song done in this fashion. Many will not understand that this is the old meter hymn. It is meant to be done in this fashion just like this!!!

My mom favorite song. I always kept it in my phone just for her. Every time I seen her I would ask her if she wanted to hear it and she said yes. She always closed her eyes while it played. Up until her last days while bed ridden I played for her. Even at her funeral it was sung. This version will always be a part of me.#CancerSucks#MissHerSoMuch

When people were singing these songs, they stood against racial injustice, cross burning and all kind of malicious hatred. Yet they stood and believed God. Now a days with our up beat music and trendy gospel we cant even stand for someone to look at us funny before we leave God

@Speezerina You betta say that!!! The old church had that anointing and the hymns...Whew!!! Can't even speak/form a coherent sentence about it. As a child I use to cry to hymns/songs like this. Rev. Flemming sounds just like a deacon at my old church. Living in Atlanta, it is hard to find a church that holds true to "old church" roots! This type of devotion moves me more than this generation/new era of worship and praise. BRING DEVOTION BACK!

This is my favorite song in all the world. It is a personal testimony of mine. I also like verses three and four. Verse four tells me I have eternal life, it says I shall ever die. I have come to understand why, how and when all this came about. I thank Almighty God for Jesus. I thank Jesus for volunteering. I appreciate u-tube for saving these old metered hymns.

I have a inspiration! to tell you about and his name is Jesus! Mercy and Grace this Throne was made possibly by his blood, Listen closely The Throne of Mercy will be put away! soon and there will be no more Mercy or Grace. so don't ask for Mercy or Grace for there will be none . But there will be a replacement for Mercy and Grace and it is called Final Judgement, Wakefield will strike the dividing line, Gabriel will blow his trumpet. The book of life will be Opened Will Jesus Read Your Name?

Thank you pastor. This took me back to when I was around 6 or 7 years old. My family would got to Talbotton GA to visit my great-grandmother's sister and we would attend her church. Bethel Baptist and they would sing this hymn. There voices harmonizing was absolutely beautiful. I fell in love with this hymn at that young age. I have a few health issues, but you blessed me with your voice and I do appreciate it. Thank you.

Lyrics: A charge to keep I have, A God to glorify, A never dying soul to save, And fit it for the sky. To serve the present age, My calling to fulfill: O may it all my powers engage To do my Master's will! Arm me with jealous care, As in Thy sight to live; And O Thy servant, Lord, prepare A strict account to give! Help me to watch and pray, And on Thyself rely, Assured if I my trust betray, I shall forever die.

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”― Mahatma Gandhi Behave Like a Christian Romans 12:9-21 9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”[a] says the Lord. 20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”[b] 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. . Amen, Will

Hearing this song brought tears to my eyes this morning. It took me back to the time when I was a child growing up. My grandmother's church use to sing this, but I was to young to know the name of it, but the song stuck with me. Since I could not remember the name of it, I would sing "what a friend we have in Jesus" as the melody of "a charge to keep". lol! Then I met this woman from Georgia, and told her that I was trying to find a song that my grandmother's church use to sing. I do not remember the words to the song, but I remember the humming. When I hum the song to her, she told the name of the song. I was so happy, because i have been looking for this song for more than 30 years.

When we are young life has not begun yet, so the songs are really testimonies. And we are young we don't have many yet. Things in life make you pay attention to God and All His Glory. Age changes things we hear and things we do. I tell my son when we grow up, we have lived on both sides of the tracks. And, that makes us pay attention to songs like this. I love it when we moan the devil don't know what we moaning about. Glory Glory

Most amazing song in english with feeling---this is THE example of spanish flamenco in the english language. Flamenco is a fusion of all the cultures that have so far existed in southern spain. People say its very jewish, or very moorish or very arabic or very gypsy.....the beautiful part of this confusion is the fact that many agree it expresses music-of-soul in a few human cultures. This song allows me to relate to them!
