Vishwanath I want to bat on and on and on for our country. Genius whose shots are special . Even those days and today cricket has not seen batsman like g r Vishwanath. God bless Vishwanath sir in all ways in life
Way back in 2002 , I was doing my security check at the Mumbai international terminal for my official trip to Taiwan and I saw the security personnel doing the frisking and other checks on a short statured man who was quietly following the procedure..I was stunned to see that he was none other than GRV !!! I immediately asked the security staff.. you know whom you are doing this check and frisking?? He is the genius GRV.. They pleaded ignorance and allowed him to pass...unfazed, GRV maintained his customary calm and smile and shook hands with me and enquired about me..and about family and profession.it was a lifetime experience for me though I am a hardcore SMG devotee.. He was coaching kenya then..he signed autograph gracefully and moved on!!
My all time hero is GR Vishwanath. Was lucky to have watched his 97no against Llyod's men in 1975 and his century against WI in 1978 both at Chepauk. Chepauk was know to be the fastest and bouncy wicket in 70s. No helmet then. We may have sachins dravids virats, but something is missing with these stars. Which can only been seen and experienced to realise. Long live Vishy.
My most loved cricketer, I happened to met him at Bangalore railway station in the year 1978, I took his autograph on five rupee note,I shook my hand with him and spoke for one minute, that day was a most memorable day in my life, love you fishy.
Nice to see my hero great GR Vishwanath. Once WI commentator Tony Coziar what he think of Gavaskar and Vishwanath. He said Gavaskar is technician and Vishwanath is artist.
Vishu was my first childhood cricket hero . Hats off to his style. I remember lanky Tony greige lifting vishy in arms after vishy completing a century in 1973 series
Little master, a great batsman with his lovely cover drive, late cut was a strength, a good catcher at slip. One of the great player and very sporty.... 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
We are lucky to whitness the all time great mastero like Vishy Sir.what a player he was in those days.still nobody hits let cuts, square cut, flick like him.I wish Vishy Sir a safe & long life🎂🙏⚘⚘
Very very Happy to see my idol talk. What a great pleasure he gave us all by his grace and battling. The definitive sound from the bat when he square cuts so nice to hear.Unfortunate that when so many other cricketers got opportunities for comeback he didn't get..Will be happy to see his collection of century knocks.
Architect of so many victories and saved India from the brink of defeat in several occasions. Great batsman and human being. I wish Gundappa a healthy, happy and peaceful life a head. God bless you sir
Viswanath is ultimate hero in indian cricket due to his classic style. He is the most stylish batsman .. His class is often noticed in crisis like he will produce his best when the country needs. He saved many times, not bothered about personal milestone. Rare gem in indian cricket. Supreme in all respects. Nobody can come close to him. Long live vishy
The greatest artist, India produced. He was a magician and his strokeplay was just a joy to behold. Must also mention that his sportsman's spirit was unparalled. Remember the Jubilee Test, where he recalled Bob Taylor. Although India lost that Test, the spirit of the game won. Long live Sir GRV. Thanks for making cricket so much richer.
GRV....Pride of Karnataka .... Heartbeat of Kannadigas... Clarity of thought and humbleness shines in his every word... Indian Cricket's favourite son.
A great Batsman of highest class who could play every shot in a book especially square cut late cut and flick besides he is a great gentleman whom we admire and emulate Best wishes Vishy
During his playing days in Karnataka he was next most loved and popular person after legendary actor Dr. Rajkumar. In Bangalore Whenever Vishy got out without scoring much, one could see hundreds of guys coming out of KSCA stadium losing interest in that test
If you love cricket, you should be a viswanath's fan.He never played for himself. His delightful strokes are not notable alone, even his defence and the presence in the crease are also a feast for the spectators.long live the little genius.
I had the privilege of taking GRV sir's autograph in 2005 at Bangalore, he was there to attend a wedding, the feeling was divine, this memory will be there forever, proud of you grv sir
My favourite cricketer. Stylish, technically brilliant, committed batsman. He was an inspiring model with modesty and gentleman nature being his strong points. India needs such players and wish him a long healthy and peaceful life.
There was a famous tamil movie in late 60"s in which a song which has *vishwanathan velai vendum*(meaning mr vishwanath we need job) We all use to sing this song in tamil by changing the word * vishwanathan we needs runs from you* (vishwanath runs vendum) Such a glorious, naturally talented batsman and always a treat to watch... and remembers me of his fantastic 113 vs Australia during 1981 82 test series against the in formidable attacks of pascoe, lillee and et al.. Thorough gentlemen to the core God bless him and give him long life.
Gundappa Vishwanath was first spotted by M L Jaisimha, one of the shrewdest cricketers of 60s and 70s who was unlucky not to captain the Country, when GRV was playing in Hyderabad. After seeing GRV playing one over, Jaisimha predicted GRV playing for the Country. About GRV's 97 not out in Chennai Test of 1974 - 75 Series against West Indies, much has been said, including the unforgettable straight driven 4 off Andy Roberts. In fact in the previous Test in Calcutta, GRV scored a Century (in the second innings) and India won that Test. Arguably the 1974 - 75 home Series against West Indies belongs to Gundappa Vishwanath as he, in the absence of Sunil Gavaskar (due to injury), single handedly made the Series close from 2 - 0 down to 2 - 2 level after Madras Test, leaving the final Test in Mumbai as decider of the Series.
Nice to see the great G. R. Vishwanath still going strong. The discordant notes were the interviewer's constant and jarring mispronunciation of "legendary" and his referring to Mr. Vishwanath as Vishy, when he is old enough to be his father.
I was keeping my fingers crossed as he and Solkar remain unbeaten at kanpur. Eagerly next day when he scored his first test hundred it was like a dream come true. Fortunately i was a witness being at Eden Gardens. Best Batsman for me. ❤
The unsung hero...learnt what a stylish and a technical batsman means...a.humble man ...Vishy Sir we are blessed to have seen you playing. Best wishes Sir.
In Madras, we used to have 2 groups of fan following..GRV and SMG ..often we had arguments on who is better.....the support in favour of GRV was more always and it was also emotional
Great honour to listen what this legend told about himself and game. During his time faced fearsome fast bowlers with utmost calmness and went on to score runs on dire situations to save India from the jaws of defeat. I was fortunate to see him bat in Ranji trophy . Aspiring young cricketers might listen how this legend talked about his contemporaries and idols
Just loved listening to GRV - my beloved cricketer. Most of his innings small or big, I not just remembered them all but I also remember what I was doing while he got out!! For many of his centuries, i had bunked my school n college.
Vishy was truly most loved cricketer since simplicity and talent were together . That part of interview when he told about Micheal Holding's invisible balls were funny and give an insight as to how Vishy stood defiantly against world's best pacers.
You batting look so easy, it was a treat to the eyes to see you bat, particularly your squatedrive latecut, squarecut, and lovely coverdrives, with out helmet showing that art of craftsmanship was truly amazing, may almighty bestow upon you best of health , lot of peace, and happiness always sir, stay blessed and safe, thanks a lot for having joy to millions of cricket lovers, all the very best
In 1970s Karnataka 2 people caught the imagination and had a tremendous fan following . The first one is our Annavaru, Dr.Rajkumar and the other one was Vishwa.
Vishy,do you remember your A Division League match against Ideal Jawa at Maharaja college grounds.you were playing for SBI. As I remember, you came one down.everyone was waiting to watch you playing your favourite square cuts and late cuts. But, for our bad luck, you were clean bowled by the very first Raghavan delivery which pitched in the middle of the pitch and shooted like a bullet to uproot your stumps.this type of delivery is called pinda in local words.later the match was saved by Sudhakar Rao for your team.
Yes Sir. Legendary Dr. Rajkumar and Legendary Vishwanath were darlings of masses in 1970s. In fact even Vishy was affectionately called as Annavaru and he was the first cricketer in India who had a fan following like a film star
Vishy would have scored more than 150 if we counted all the runs that he denied for himself when he farmed the attack with Bedi and Chandra. Amazing strokes would be fielded at the boundary line with not a single being run. So unselfish was he. I remember, even when Lloyd caught Chandra at slip, he was most disappointed that the catch came to him. Even a forward defensive played by Vishy was more attractive than the best attacking strokes played these days. Such aspects as his defence technique to smother Lance Gibbs spin, are truly extinct. People talk about his square cut, but his strokes of his hips were so powerful, remember he was only 5'2" and he had to meet deliveries just short of good length near his chest.
Watched Vishy live only once circa 1988 at Chinnaswamy in an inconsequential benefit match. The sheer artistry and speed with which he played one late cut that day has never left the mind's eye. A joy forever. He is a gentleman cut from the old Mysorean elegant cloth, pun intended.
Thank You Amit Ji to remind...so kind of you. 🙏 My prayers for good health and happiness of my Idol Vishy... There cannot be a gentleman like GRV. 💐💐🎂🎂 🙏🙏
Tremendous batsman, specially when his team needed the runs, one of the most stylish players to have played the game. But, I think he was on Ok fielder not exactly great. Gavaskar was a better slip fielder than Vishy.
Most batsmen (excluding GRV) have gotten Padma awards! Not sure why he never was awarded! Simply overrated batsmen like VENGSARKAR got PadmaShri awards while GRV only received an Arjuna award! Ridiculous
My name is Amit Gadkari. I am a passionate follower of the game especially Test cricket. I also run a foundation called Cricketers Foundation. You can find out more on www.cricketersfoundation.org
Very nice see Vishy..my self a great fan of HIM.About his recalling..Bob Taylor he complimented England for giving the Cricket Game on fans behalf in his unique and uncomforable style., He needs international and national acknowledgment and honoring like ICC Chairman like that., Vishy few may statistically ahead of YOU..but in high standards..YOU remain GREAT.
