A Chat with the Director Irvin Kershner for a Pilot to an Arts Program we did called "ARTSMASH." We talked about everything from his early days to Jackson Pollock.
So sad to see Kersh go, but thought this should be shared. He couldn't have been more generous and kind.

Thanks for sharing this. I've always admired the man. The Empire Strikes Back is my favourite film of all time. So sad to hear of his death. He was such an inspiration as a film maker and artist.

Kershner speaks about Jackson Pollock as if he knew him, but I'm failing to find any reference to them meeting each other besides this interview. Clicking through some Wikipedia articles suggests that they ran in the same art circles in New York. In fact, it's possible that they directly met through Hans Hofmann or Pollock's wife Lee Krasner. Kersh and Krasner both studied with Hofmann. There are no references to Pollock studying under Hofmann, but he did study under Thomas Hart Benton at the Art Students League, which Hofmann also taught at for a time. If Pollock's Drip Period started after he and Krasner began living in Springs on Long Island, then I can easily imagine Kersh and other students joining Hofmann on a trip to Springs only to find Pollock dripping house paint on canvas laid out on the floor of his living room wondering what in the living hell he was doing.

Irvin Kershner directed the 1978 suspense thriller Eyes of Laura Mars. John Carpenter wrote the script years earlier.

@DaBossk He was very fulfilled in his life. He would not want you feeling sorry for him. He would be more concerned with you creating the next great thing with your time on this Earth.

@BWGgy He was very very particular about voice. He was bothered that many actors moved to LA and got lazy with their speech. He was very strict with me on my voice.
