A Childish Chuck E. Cheese Rant About Dance Floors, TVs, and Tables

The novelty of Animatronics was unmatched. It brought such an aura of wonder to the establishments. I would skate over to my local CEC just to sit and watch the animatronics move around and perform for hours just because I was fascinated with the tech. Sadly, ours had to close and remodel due to a fire on the stage, and when they reopened the animatronics had been replaced with the boring dance floor and TV display. It's so upsetting :((

The animatronics shows were a unique feature of the restaurants. That dance floor and big screen TV cheapens the place. Kids’ disinterest in the animatronics seems like just a theory to me...they just don’t want to have to maintain them anymore and cut costs.

CEC Entertainment is probably trying to ruin our childhoods on purpose at this point

Why is it even still called "Chuck E. Cheese's" at this point? They have strayed so far from the original concept, and gotten rid of SO SO SO SO SO MANY things that made it "Chuck E. Cheese's", calling modern CEC "Chuck E. Cheese's" is just insulting. Honestly they should just rebrand as something else and drop the characters entirely, they've already ruined the characters, it would be a blessing if the poor suckers were finally allowed to die after 43 years of slowly going down hill.

Rest in peace my local location, Rockford. It's dead. 2.0 is utter trash there, it wasn't even one of the good remodels. I love how they're blaming kids for not watching them. They made them the side-show. They removed the walls, the stage light dimming, the audience interaction, the liveliness, the programming, the aesthetic, the fact the shows aren't entertaining. Take for example, the April 2012 show. It gives you a story to follow along with, and it mixes in popular songs. I can be fine with not covering songs, but there's just no entertainment without any actual *show*. They pay to update the arcade part, that's why the children go to the games instead of the animatronics. It's not even a good dance floor, either. It's just a screen projected onto the floor. What's the point of even watching the Show at CEC if its just a TV? It's just a waste ov money. CEC is so cheap they can't even get a good pizza cutter, even after the rumors. And, THE ABSOLUTE WORST OF IT ALL, They PURPOSELY MANIPULATED US INTO AGREEING WITH THEM BY killing shows by not performing maintenance on them. Take a look at some locations that used to be really good, such as mine, Rockford. After 2.0 was mentioned, magically, the animatronics mouths didn't work, neither did their eyelids, pasqually looked drunk. Wow.

They just solidified themselves as a company for 4 year olds. Stupid songs, Dumb puppets on tvs, and a 5x5 dance floor… This is why showbiz pizza was elite. It worked for kids and teens. Where chuck e cheese is trying to entertain little kids… The work they’ve done in the past 20 years has DESTROYED their company! They went from trying to be like disney “Where kids and parents can have fun” to a lace where ONLY LITTLE KIDS enjoy

My brother told me this a few days ago… If you throw away rice you don’t eat, that’s disrespecting the farmers who made it. So when Chuck E Cheese throws out the animatronics, that’s disrespecting the many people who literally worked hard on putting together the many animatronics and getting them to work. It’s just sad 😞

Alright, here's what I gotta say from a tactical standpoint: The reason why they're ditching the animatronics is not only are they just trying to cut off the cost of maintaining em - and I'm being truly honest here - the bots frankly are starting to look like pieces of junk *because* of the lack of maintenance. I mean, it really does look like the place is turning into a poorly ran garbage hole (if not poorly ran already). Think about it: do you really want a cross-eyed Chuck that can't even move as well as a mustache-absent Pasqually looking directly at you while you sit down at a germ-infested table eating possibly recycled pizza *that tastes just like Little Caesar's?* The dance floor is a... uh... I guess it's just an official spot for live shows to occur at. But not only are they ditching the bots: they threw away the toddler zone, the interactive panels on the Studio C Alpha stages, the Skytubes, and maybe some other random things that made the location stand out from others. That's what is taking the magic away. At this rate, CEC has lost what made it special and ever so popular. There's this place that is about a minute or two away from my local CEC called Spare Time and it is HEAVEN! They got an arcade, a bowling alley, laser tag, a nice section dedicated to some good food, a full room dedicated to prizes like Nerf Guns and Nintendo Switches, and finally... *A BOWLING PIN MASCOT THAT WALKS AROUND HI-FIVING PEOPLE!* If CEC were to switch things up and make themselves stand out than everyone else, then that's cool. But now they have used the power of money concerns to turn themselves into a place of "we got nothing else to do, why not". I bet you that the future generation of kids that we have will be jealous that we got to see some of the coolest parts about this place before the "corporate greed" took over

i went to a cec like 4 days ago. they still have animatronics but the characters don't even talk.. they just move their heads, waists, and eyes around. im sure children would watch the characters if they actually DID something 💀.

Once 2.0 is completed I’m leaving the fandom almost entirely. I’ll just watch the RAE for the rest of my life and never step foot in a Dumb E. Cheese again.

As horrifying as the animatronics are, seeing them being replaced with a TV is really sad.

The animatronics are what made Chuck E. Cheese unique from other pizza restaurants/ arcades, and without them Chuck E. Cheese is just your normal pizza arcade, and I would've been fine with 2.0 if they would give the animatronics a better home but no, THEY DESTROY THEM. Although not all of them get destroyed, like Laurel's 3 stage was saved even when they got 2.0 and I think Rockford's rocker stage was saved too. Overall 2.0 is Chuck E. Cheese's worst ever mistake and even though it is bringing sales up 20% Chuck E. Cheese will always be a shell of what it once was.

the only 2.0 did right is the in and exterior. and also, trying to move after eating just gives me a soft stomach ache (And i believe i am not the only one)

A chuck e cheese *MINI* pizza is now 9 dollars, there's obviously getting bankrupt again because of 2.0 and want your money to save them....

The next thing you know, they'll scrap the arcades and tell people to just use their new app!

I missed the original look even on both Fontaine Road and Newark CA since I was the youngest one like CEC goers. Because Fontaine Road one was the second Chuck E. Cheese ever opened from the beginning and it was ultimately a large pizza palace since it used to be a magical toy shop.

Not to mention throughout the late 90s onwards they've hardly even promte the animatronic shows in adverts/marketing.

The only decent thing about the dance floor is it has some bit of interactivity with the character renders forming as you walk on it and the fish stomping segment when the live shows aren't running.

It’s sad really, I don’t wanna watch an unnecessarily large tv screen instead of animatronics. On top of that large god damn tv, there’s MORE TVs throughout the restaurant. No one wants to watch a tv at a restaurant

Honestly, this just adds to the Chuck E. Cheese dip of the 2010’s, First was the removal of Avenger to Rockstar in 2012. Then all the characters remodels until finally all of them for Helen in 2016. Then with 2016 because of the removal of Skytubes and Tokens in exchange for the Play Pass card. And ending it all with the removal of paper tickets, and then the animatronics ditched for a dance floor and TV in 2017. It’s already going after so many locations that there are few CEC animatronic stages left. Maybe 2.0 was the cause for the first bankruptcy in 2020 since the video game crash of ‘83. Chuck E. Cheese’s just keeps getting a little worse every few years for some people. (As a 2010’s kid, I grew up with Rockstar, it wasn’t that bad with just the Chuck bot. It just got 2.0 and I don’t really mind it.) I wonder what Chuck E. Cheese’s has in store next, could be improvement, could be non improvement.

This is literally a stupid remodel my local location shut down and the rest that are close to me got 2.0 and the most pathetic thing is THEY GAVE THE LAST ROCKER STAGE LOCATION 2.0

Kids today see the dance floor and thinks its lame or fun. Me: When I was young 5 years old my Birthday 2012 playing games tokens tickets cruncher pizza cake laughter with friends nonstop with tokens and tickets in my hands until I was out of tokens. Me: Cries What have they done to chuck e cheese why would they take out the animatronics they were the main attractions who in the Ceo though this was a good idea this really stupid the animatronics the main cast have been around since it started, and most kids might not even know they existed. It's really disappointing knowing what's happened over time. I know before me their also had the curtains and other stuff they were cutting a lot of corners, but this is the last corner I hope so help me if they remove the ticket blaster in life, I say to chuck e cheese I don't know you you're not the restaurant I remember with animatronics and tokens and tickets you can grab and pizza.
