Based on wage inflation, Bob Cratchit's salary of 15 shillings per week translates to around $43,000 per year, or $14.20 per hour with the standard 60-hour workweek of his time. So it's true that he would have made more than the federal minimum wage. However, he was not "destitute" for his time, experts told USA TODAY.

"A RU-vidmas Carol" Written by Marc Se7en NEPHEW: "Merry RU-vidmas, Uncle Scrooge!" SCROOGE: "RU-vidmas? Bah humbug!" NEPHEW: "RU-vidmas a humbug? You can't mean it, Uncle Scrooge?" SCROOGE: "But I do mean it, Nephew! If I had my way, every troll who went around commenting on RU-vidmas, would be boiled with their own Smartphone, and buried with a USB cable through their heart!" SALESMAN: "Do I have the pleasure of addressing Mr. Scrooge, or Mr. Marley?" SCROOGE: "Mr. Marley has been dead these Se7en years! He died Se7en years ago this very night!" SALESMAN: "At this time of year, cheap broadband is abundant, and the need for fast Internet is keenly felt! May we put you down for fibre broadband at three shillings per month?" SCROOGE: "What of dial-up? Has something occurred to stop it in its useful purpose?" SALESMAN: "Many people would rather die, than use dial-up!" SCROOGE: "If they would rather die than dial-up, then they had better do so, and increase the surplus dial-up bandwidth! Good day to you!" Merry 🎄 RU-vidmas One And All 🤣 Charles Dickens himself stayed at "The Royal Kings Arms Hotel" here in Lancaster (circa 1870), opposite my flat / apartment! ... I'd loved to have met the great man!

I've read and reread A Christmas Carol and I think this is one of the finest versions put to screen. Yes it's true that it isn't a word for word, scene for scene by the book portrayal but what it is, so close to what Dickens' was trying to make people see. The songs are wonderful, the costume well designed. I have different copies of this and am glad to watch it a couple times a year. Happy that others gat as much joy from it as I do.
@jeastwood7358
@jeastwood7358 8 месяцев назад
it is not a Christmas Carol though they even change the name because it was rewritten… I find it disrespectful of Charles Dickens… And Dickens told and portrayed the image of what he wanted people to see… He wanted people to use their own imaginations so they would understand it better…… It was more personal when he told it the way he told it instead of turning it into a show like this… If you want Hollywood this is it…

Oddly, that's what I most remembered about this film when I saw it as a kid. I'd look for it over the years, but it was never on TV, and not available on DVD. I like Albert Finney, so thought I'd like to own it. Just this year I finally watched it on a streaming service I had not previously been subscribed to. It's an overall good adaptation, but musicals need to be careful. Still, "Thank You Very Much" is still the one thing most memorable about it, and can be used for anything out of context of his death.
