I think a lot of people can relate to this. So many people that get CFS report some awful trauma just before getting ill, or a string of traumas, that it can't be ignored as a potential cause. I hope the medical establishment figures it out soon, but I think she's basically right that it's the overproduction of stress hormones that wrecks the immune system.

The best thing is the brain is neuroplastic and we can calm down the maladaptive overactive stress response that is dumping stress chemicals into the body 24/7 and in doing so can heal.

This is kinda what I do, but I learnt it under a different name! I revisit memories, feel and release the emotions and do what should've been done and say what should've been said! 🙌👊💕 I learnt it from "The Completion Process" by Teal Swan (book) 🙌

Thank you so much Raelan to bring in the brain and nervous system/maladaptive stress response into your videos about healing ME/CFS. I have been so happy to see you feature a recovery story with someone who did the DNRS program, a person who got well with the Lightming Process and Danna Pycher who recovered with hypnotherapy as I did Paleo for 2 years, tons of supplements and got nowhere until I dropped all that (still ate heathy but not on a crazy restrictive diet) and focused on working on the maladaptive stress response.

I really resonated with this video, healing trauma is probably the biggest part Of my journey! I’m lucky to work with a trauma informed therapist although I’ve never heard of regression therapy it feels like that’s what I’m working on, completing the traumatic experiences so my body and my mind can be done with them and eventually become unstuck. It’s exhausting and painful to have to go back, but has to be done!

This is so interesting Raelan, thanks for sharing and being so honest about your own story and trauma. I saw my father killed in a car accident when I was only 10 and in hindsight it had a huge physical effect for me, as well as mentally. And I'm sure it contributed to my slow health decline, and eventual diagnosis of ME/CFS. For me, NLP was what helped me process that, but the regression therapy sounds very interesting too (and quite similar I think). I'm now back and fully recovered, so can absolutely confirm that 'dealing with the past' can help you move forward :-)

So so true!! I lived on auto pilot my whole life, from being bullied for being overweight, a chronic exerciser & dieter... Then got Glandular fever, Epstein Barr virus. Still pushed through untill I got CFS/ME. Started a hard recovery, then my mum got very sick, and sadly passed 6 months ago! I've said it before but your content (found you 5 months ago) has massively helped my recovery, I'd say I'm 80-90 on recovery. HAVE to tune in and listen to my mind & body (& gut). X

I have seen a compassion focused theraphy (CFT) psychologist and she, like you, has also taught me a lot about the importance of feeling calm, safe and secure for healing our immune system, and has helped me focus more on that. Thanks for acknowledging that held trauma may be the cause of CFS/ME/Fibro, etc. Or it might be a part of it. Or it may play no part in an individual’s chronic illness. There are only so many symptoms to go around for human beings. Chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and chronic brain fog are common symptoms in many illnesses, and there are many causes and combinations.

I do believe less stress helps. Not sure if it can cure all. I don’t feel I have old trauma causing me problems anymore. I gave my life to God and I am at peace and I am humble, I have forgiven all and carry on with my life better in the will of God. I still have ME and Fibromyalgia but God keep my strong will, I am not depressed I also had flu symptoms and fatigue. I am grateful to have life. Amen

Thank you so much Raelan, out of interest how long did it take you to fully recover? ❤ This makes complete sense!! Trauma after trama for a few years, then covid - bacterial pneumonia, into CFS/Fibromyalgia, I have revisited upsetting events daily for 3 days, and what a release, it's amazing, crying and genuinely huge breaths and a feeling of a release in tension in my back muscles each day, more mobile, much less pain, already resting 2 hours less than I was!! fantastic!! and all in 3 days !!! 😃 I have also looked into the 7 Chakras, and working on this at the same time, all negative thoughts, anger etc cause a blockage, so changing the mind set instantly!! to heal quicker ❤ can't thank you enough, truly amazing 🙏🤗😍 xxxxxxxx

So, my current diagnosis is actually Fibromyalgia given I dont have huge fatigue but am always in pain somehow and somewhere. No "serious" issues have been found through all sorts of tests so the FM label has been planted on me. That diagnosis was given to me by a Rheumatologist, however I went for a second opinion through a Neurologist and he was very reluctant to use the term given it really isn't an explanation and can cover SO many causes and symptoms. It is more there to give sufferers the recognition that there is something wrong and that they aren't making it up!! Having said that, the first thing my Rheumatologist did was give me Amitriptyline to take. The Neurologist, however, said the FIRST thing I should do is completely stop taking pain killers. So that is what I have started with and am on week 2 of a process that I expect will not be pleasant for a month or two... but with the idea that my body will do more of what it needs to rather than me permanently suppressing it. If that doesn't work, I will be on the other drugs for 6-12 months. In addition, I have basic exercises to do and build up and I have made some relatively large changes to my diet as well as giving myself plenty of rest time (while working full time) to recover. I havent gone full diet change yet as having had a super sweet tooth, it is just as painful eating food I am not used to day in, day out and adding another layer of feeling rubbish on top of the rest. Lastly, I am getting a full body massage every 2 weeks (acupuncture didn't really help me) in an effort to stimulate things like circulation and lymphatic systems. Seems to be going OK so far. My sleep still isn't great but it isn't horrific. I am definitely having days where I feel rested whereas a month ago I just felt horrible tired. Exercise does result in a couple of days of pain, but I havent really been doing that kind of stuff since I got ill in March so that is understandable and I think will get better. I am closer to knowing my limits of what is too much. Pain is still with me every day, sometimes worse and widespread, sometimes better and specific. Resisting the impulse to medicate though!! Will see how it goes but hopefully my body is finding its balance again. A lot of good research going on in this area and hopefully with the "long-covid" problem thay sounds VERY similar to ME/CFS/FM this will get much more attention in the future as there are things that can be measured now that are consistent in these patients which means we are getting closer to the mechanisms behind it and therefore some effective therapies!!

Hello, Raelan! Thanks for sharing this! I can totally relate to what you’re saying! Great idea about making a list of all traumas, I’ve already started! But is it possible to completely heal trauma by yourself? By just resolving it in your imagination. Without guidance of a therapist?
@RaelanAgle
@RaelanAgle 3 года назад
You are so welcome, I'm glad it was helpful. And although I don't have the answer to that question, I would imagine that if possible, working with a trained professional who you trust will always be a better option. Although I didn't specifically do professional regression therapy during my recovery, I did see counsellors from time to time who where incredibly valuable in my own healing journey 😊

Your mother ..how awful. I have had cfs for 22 years. i have literally wanted to leave this earth because of my symptoms and illness several times but stayed for my kids. You are alive with cfs, but you are not living at all. How many of us do what your mother did but no one takes statistics on this very real awful result of this disease. You must tell her story one day 🙏 . Your mother dying 8 months b4 u got sick...my 16 year old nephew died abt the same length of time b4 I got sick . Trauma. the trauma that sinks the boat as Alex Howard explains it. We are over-loaded and something happens and the boat - us - sinks - into cfs. .

@RaelanAgle
@RaelanAgle 3 года назад
Hello Himani, these are great questions but also tough ones to answer. In my experience, how "normal" of a life I could live depended on how severe my illness was at the time. And for me, my definition of a normal life is one without illness so I was not feeling fully happy and fullfilled in my life until I was 100% healthy again. But some others might feel that they can live a life they are happy with despite their health challenges. I'm not sure about children as I don't plan to have children so this is not something I've had to prepare for or face personally. And for your last question, for me CFS (and just generally my poor health) did affect my menstrual cycle with periods sometimes as far as every 6 months. But once I recovered from CFS my menstrual cycle became normal again. Wishing you all the best with this ❤️
