This was absolutely fascinating! Thank you. For the last few months I’ve been toying with the idea of moving to Elliot Lake. This history video has added fuel to that fire.

Thank you for posting this great video. Some people called it the city of the future. We had theatres, company and church picnics, ski hill, beaches, and outdoor rinks. We attended Ringlinging Bros. Circuses, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts Brownies. Our town had a group of artists and service clubs; we even had a museum. It was an amazing place for children. We were there from 1959-1965. Great memories.

We landed here from England in 1959. My dad was a minor. Lived in the trailer park, then moved to an apartment..in a strip mall across from the Hudson Bay..then rented 2 different houses. I was only 2 when we arrived. The men worked so hard, but drank harder. Moved to Toronto where my dad again was underground, building the Subway tunnels. We went back 33 years ago. Its so beautiful ...

My family moved to Elliot Lake in 1959; first lived on Dunn Road, then Dieppe Ave, then finally Spruce Ave. I remember the round-roofed Grocery Store...it was originally called Blahey's IGA and I went to school with Anne Marie Blahey. Had never seen this film...brings back great memories of growing up there. Left in 1976. My Dad and brother both worked at the mine.

Went there for vacation in 1996 and again in 2010. Many things have changed and when there were kids and teenagers visiting Dairy Queen in 1996, it were senior citizen with their walkers in 2010. Funny to compare 14 years later. Very nice town with beautiful surroundings. For sure a great place to live!

Sadly I found this great film by chancing upon the Elliot Lake Mall tragedy my heart goes out to those affected by this terrible time. The film was a wonderful insure into a time many wish they could relive or even live for the first time. I know if I could I would be in the first to jump at a founding chance like this as its a rare thing these days to find a fresh start. Thank you for posting this film.

It all looked so peaceful and prosperous back then. What a shame how much it's changed now. I was born there, and fondly remember growing up there in the 1980s when the town was bustling.....everyone had a speedboat, and life was just awesome. Then the early 90s hit, and the Iron Curtain fell. So much for that.

been there on vacation in the 90s... back for vacation in 2010, i was very surprised how old the population was... almost no young people, only retirement living... strange to see the difference after "only" 16 years!!!

Interesting upbeat treatment, I worked there while a U of T student in 1955 and 1956 at Stanleigh mine and later the townsite. They never mentioned the longest bar in the world and the shenanigans around it. Some 'rough edges' at the mine sites. Later, of course, the uranium crash and rebuild (economically and ecologically). Quite a story.

Been there several times, though never lived there. Oddly enough, this may be (one of) the only town(s) that had mining, but no railroad to service it for the product mined or for bringing goods in.

Там том мести. Когда то в прошлой цивилизации Стоял очень красивый развитый город с замком на склоне ( не сравнимый по красоте ) И развитый как мы. Все умичтожили и стерли.
