The cinema facing the Garrick Theatre was the classic.

The Essoldo it was called lots of famous bands played there,I think them steps will be staying as that where L S Lowry had his picture taken very famous place. great vlog ATB

Before that old Cinema was called the Essoldo, in the 1950's it was called the Carlton. But the one that you spoke of as " being " round the back, " occupied a site, now run through by the road known as Piccadilly, near to the round about, at the intersection with Wellington Street, was called the Ritz Cinema, which was later take over by Associated British Cinema's a National company based in I think London and was from then on Known as the ABC Ritz Cinema Stockport. In the early 1960's & through to the end of that decade, I worked for an electrical contracting & installation company. called Chas. Richardson & Son's of Green lane Romiley which used to, through the 60's service & maintain ABC Northern Region Cinema's.
