I really love that you show the refurbish process in detail. Nice transparency! I will be supporting your upcycle process, helping to contribute to less toxic waste, and buying an Amia or Leap v2 (still deciding!) I do wish there were some lighter neutral fabric colors, though, other than light gray. I'm so over gray. How about adding a nice light coffee color? A pale green?

Been buying, refurbishing and selling Leaps for years, as a one man operation. Was great to see what you do in a larger operation. I'm sure there're no complaints from Steelcase.

I just ordered one of these a week ago. It arrived yesterday and was a breeze to setup. Absolutely loving it so far.

This was really amazing to see! Especially since I just ordered a refurbished v2 from you! One thing that really stuck out to me however, coming from a person who works in a UPS distribution warehouse, you should *really* consider putting some sort of packaging foam around the chair. These warehouses are incredibly rough on their packages, and packages will commonly go through high forces from things such as falling up to 6 feet or even more, having other packages fall onto them, being jammed/squished/pinched between other boxes on a conveyer to the point of needing to completely stop the conveyer, and de-jam it manually (happens literally like every 20 minutes, I used to de-jam them lol), etc. It's ridiculous how much loss/shrink I have personally witnessed inside a distribution center that could've been prevented with even minimal packaging foam, or even more frustratingly a single extra piece of tape. Sorry for the rant lol, I hope my chair makes it unmarred! Besides that small thing though, I'm extremely impressed with your company's passion and thoroughness. Thanks for the video

I found BTOD last year when looking for a quality ergo chair, but never knew they sold refurbished models until today. Watching this video was very insightful and gave me a better understanding of the process and instilling confidence in purchasing. I love the videos. Very informative. Getting a refurbed chair just seems like a no-brainer. It was a toss-up between an Aeron and the Leap. I have used Aerons for years and love them, especially the recline. But, I'm 6'4", 280 pounds. I wanted a Size-C Aeron refurb. The Leap was higher rated in reviews, is weight rated for 400 pounds, and has a 30 day return guarantee. A no brainer. The chair arrived 2 days ago, assembly was easy and I was ready to enjoy my "new" chair. So far.... I don't love it. It is not as satisfying as the Aeron. To make matters worse, The plastic backer has a strong, odd smell. Probably the Back-To-black. I wiped is down with a Clorox wipe and let it sit over night. That helped a little. I also let it sit out in the sun today to see if I could bake it off. That also helped a little. I'm willing to give it a few more days and see. The other thing is that it chatters when reclining. Maybe it will smooth out with more movement. I'm willing to give it some more time, but my initial impression is just, meh. More updates to follow. 4 Dec - the smell went away after a few days. The chatter when reclining is still there. I still don't love it. I really love the full mesh of the Aeron because it keeps me cool. I guess I run hot. Then there is that recline on the Aeron!! The refurb Leap is still a really great chair, it just comes down to personal preference.

This video is one of the reasons I chose to buy a refurbished leap chair (along with the cost and the warranty). I've also appreciated the video reviews that you've done on various products, and they seem to be fair reviews that aren't over-selling the BTOD manufactured products (your reviews are why I bought an uplift desk). An apparently open and transparent company, and I really appreciate that you're refurbishing chairs and keeping a lot of waste out of landfills.

I was really hesitant on buying a chair much cheaper at Madison seating, but this video convinced me you guys take a lot of care into making these used chairs almost brand new. Definitely going to buy from you guys.

Think I'll be picking one of these up. My current Humanscale freedom has way too much lumbar support for me, regardless of what height I make the backrest at, and it's making me sit in an exaggerated way. How does this Leap v2 compare to the Freedom in terms of lumbar?

I'll gladly pay for btod's professional servicing over trying to fish for a used chair by myself. Not only do you save money by refurbishing but it helps eliminate waste from companies that may otherwise throw away perfectly good chairs that would require a lot of cleaning and maintenance work from the average buyer

Thanks for this video! I rarely buy refurbished products. Seeing the whole process, knowing what is being reused vs renewed and the BTOD warranty boosted my confidence. I placed an order 3 days ago, and expecting delivery next week - yea, 3 years after this video. :) I hope this will encourage other companies that are into refurbishing (not just in the furniture industry) to document and share their process. Duane from Cover it All only states the steaming process is to loosen the glue. Isn't the main point of the steaming to clean the foam in terms of killing bacteria, etc? I'm actually surprised that you re-use the OEM seat foam because aren't many of the chairs that you get quite old? Like 5+ years old? I would think the seat foam would not only be riddled with bacteria but flattened out quite a bit too. Foam does not last forever and gradually pancakes. It seems you chose a less expensive "jimmy-rig-it" process of simply adding a small piece of foam underneath the original to boost the flattened foam back up a bit, which doesn't necessarily fix the fact that the foam on many of the chairs is worn out. Do you ever make an exception and replace the entire seat foam for chairs that are very old?

On top of helping keep the ergonomic shape intact, would you say that the extra 1/2 foam on the chair set provides a bit more support than the normal Leap v2 chair provides?

Just received mine and had to take the seat off to adjust the piston as it just dropped down when I sat in it. Seat is really dusty still. Reclining feature seems sticky and I see no white lithium grease on those tracks like they say they do in this video. I’ll give it a couple of weeks but I’m questioning how much they stick to this refurbish process and how much was done for video sake.

My question is that since this video is almost a year old is it safe to assume this is still the procedure at the company? I'm currently on the fence about making the purchase because it seems too good to be true, but as someone trying to budget this would be a great purchase.

So, Lets say I bought a few chairs (Ameap and Amia for example) and when the tension knobs were turned hard over for max tension, I and others (hypothetically) still just fell right to the back with not much resistance in what would seem to be worn down tension springs. Would you say that was normal for a BTOD product or abnormal? And would BTOD replace said chairs with fully functioning chairs or would they tell me that the chairs were fully functioning and take my dolla dolla bills?

What do you use for the vinyl option? What are the pros and cons of vinyl vs the fabric?

Is the original foam cleaned or replaced? The foam may hold dirt or liquids, for example, if somebody were to sweat in the chair; it could sink into the foam.

Has this process changed recently? I bought a refurbished steelcase leap v2 from your website in April this year and it doesn't look as good as this video would make me think. I don't think mine has the btod label and the fabric has creases.

Thanks for that behind the scenes look at the refurbishing process. Very informative. My employer provides us with a Steelcase Amia chair. Does the Leap v2 have a taller back? I’m 6’2 and find most ergonomic chairs are made for “average” height people.

The only hesitation I have is no replacing the seat pad with a brand new one. I know a competitor does this as well as adding an option for a thicker back pad. There is probably a logical reason you guys do it this way (adding the 1/2" layer). Why not just use new pads?
