I had a great deal of trouble looking for information on this program, but A Closer Look appears to be a talk show hosted by Faith Daniels that delved into current issues with guest interviews. This episode captured on one of my tapes discusses the release and impact of Tim Burton's Batman Returns (1992). Although rated PG-13, Warner Bros.' marketing department made the ill-chosen decision to sell Batman-related merch to kids with naturally controversial results - A Closer Look delves into this issue.
It's fascinating to see how these controversies were handled twenty-six years ago - the more bizarre to me is probably the idea of a "junior" movie reviewer which on the one hand seems great for determining suitable films for your kids but also raises many issues in itself (like a 10-year-old going to see a PG-13 movie to begin with). Alas, the tape cuts off before the first commercial break, but what's present here is still an exciting watch.

Thanks to everyone who has been commenting and watching this video since I uploaded it! I never thought that this would be the VHS clip I share that'd explode so much, but I suppose I underestimated the Batman fandom community. Just a reminder that, as detailed in the description, the VHS clips I share are NOT my own and neither are the opinions present in them. I simply own the tape from which I digitized the footage. Discussion on the cultural influence of Batman Returns in the 90's is enthusiastically welcome, just don't forget that the people in this are as much a product of their time as the footage and the Happy Meal toys.

These kids are the reason why we got Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.

Looks like this kid memorized his lines very well. Definetly not his own opinion

Bet Danny was ruthlessly bullied in class after this

“It’s not for younger kids!” Neither is Terminator 2. That movie is Rated R, so the intended audience is the 17+ crowd. He thought Batman Returns was more violent than T2? Please, T2 even had a nightmare with a playground full of kids being nuked.

This is what ruined Tim Burton's 3rd Batman. With Marlon Wayans as Robin. Robin Williams as The Riddler. And Billy Dee Williams returning as Harvey Dent to become Two Face. All because of profit

Danny was definitely the kid on class who reminded the teacher about the homework

Terminator 2 - T1000 constantly impaling/killing people and a nightmare scene of all of humanity being nuked/vaporized

That mum was such a Karen. She just thinks that anything with any remote sort of violence is just mindless nonsense with no sense of positive message. Batman Returns is an excellent movie, in it’s own unique way. Not everything has to be butterflies and rainbows

When kids really actually liked this movie and their parents force them to say these things.

While those kids were on TV reciting lines, I was collecting all those McDonald’s Bat toys 🤣🤣

They let this kid see Terminator 2 and he thought that was less violent? You know that you liked it kid. This is why I wasn’t allowed to go see this film in theaters back in 1992, because I was 10. Thanks a lot kid. My favorite of the Tim Burton Batflicks.
