I sit here and shake my head in amazement, this is spectacular!! I love the colors, the nuances the looseness of the entire painting, the way you captured 'life' in his eyes, so may portrait painters do not achieve this particular detail, even though some paintings are very good, it falls short in ''the life'' in the sitters eyes, viewing this in full screen and looking at his eyes I almost feel like an intruder to his word, that's what I call achieving your goal!! Bravo Ben!!

I wanted a rich colour contrast. The white overcoat has mainly blue tones. And often magenta goes together well with blue. In the end I lowered the colour contrast of the coat because it found it to overdone.

To accelerate drying time you can use quick drying medium or add siccative. But be careful with that. For acrylics there is a retarder. But the advantage precisely of oil is the slow drying time and of acrylics the quick one.

Fabulous ! Are you working wet on wet? How many sitings does it takes you on average for this size of canvas ?

Beautiful portrait! I'm curious why you chose to lay in a warm imprimatura as opposed to a more neutral tone. What was your thought process as you began the portrait?
