WOW weren't expecting that ending :o Sorry to hear about your friend. I agreed with everything in this video except your praise for Redacted, it's a mindless triple funnel map imo. Every round of it plays EXACTLY the same and that is boring as fuck to me. As someone that tried to cover battlefield for my channel when it was BFV's time I have to say I would love to be in your position to be paid by youtube to create content for a living, you've accrued 19.3k subscribers (something I would have loved to have had when I was making vids but it's just so damn hard to get noticed by the algorithm) I implore you to make absolutely certain that you want to throw this channel away. I personally just spent hours watching your videos and absolutely loved them! Your skill is amazing and you have a great ability to explain how you are doing what you are doing and I have the notification bell on ready for your next videos, especially the ones on strategy/tactics. It will be a shame to lose you your passionfor Battlefield defintely shone through your work. I began playing at Bad Company 2 aswell, maybe the next one will be Bad Company 3 and they'll actually get the launch right. Battlefield should be loved way more than COD but they fuck up the launch and the game falls short of what it should be. It's really not that hard. Just give me Battlefield V gunplay with Battlefield 1 atmosphere! Thanks for the content :)
I entered it in feb 2023 and Ive to say I did and do enjoy it! Its not like BF4, which is/was my fav one. But I still play bf2042! I think the content is to less, we need more maps! Because the many maps are still not that good and I get slowly bored.

Thank you for taking the time to make this. When you brought up Jordy, your words really resonated with me because I thought the same way once I found out he passed. He was also my age, and I think that just hit harder for me and made me rethink my degrading passion for BF. Although I didn't have a connection with him as you did, I understood the love he once had for the franchise... As much as I loved playing battlefield in the past, that feeling is gone because of the studio's words and unforgiving treatment towards BF veterans. Very good and in depth video. Regarding the Plus System, I like it as well but it does cause major balancing problems as you mentioned. I think in the future, if they carry it forward, it should only allow for the changing of sights and the ability to equip/unequip a suppressor alongside whichever muzzle you chose in the default space. This still allows for some freedom, but completely circumvents the need to balance different ammo types and under barrel launchers. Take care and I wish you nothing but the best in the future.
Kind of a nitpick but if you're gonna be able to change ammo types, future games should only allow for ammo types that wouldn't require gutting and rebuilding the gun completely. And regular/extended mags of the same ammo type should draw from the same ammo pool.
I don't get why people complain about the plus menu. I don't get why anyone complains about something being "OP". What i have found in the game is everything is there for everyone to use. Everything has a counter move if you know how to play the game. To me it makes the game less fun or lame ass hell to dumb down everything. Like taking underbarrel grenades away. Another is taking away 90%of Sundance's grenades. Another example is shortening Mackay's grappling hook. Every time someone crys about something the devs take it completely away or ruin it.

Like you, I have been a BF fan for a long time. Actually my first play was BF1942 but BF2 on PC was when I really fell in love with the franchise. Ive been defending 2042 since launch based on its potential but season after season i was let down. I love the game. Play it each day but I know it could be so much better. That battlefield can be so much more. They’re ain’t no other Fps games like it. They need to stop chasing trends and focuse on what they do best and quality. You were not the biggest channel but you were definitely one of the best. Your knowledge of of Battlefield is impressive and your dedications to your videos will be missed. This video was spot on and very complete. I hope dice watches this which I’m sure they will. Good luck with your next project. A huge loss to the community. A couple things you left out on the plus system: First, having 3 underbarrel GL increases the already bad explosive spam. Second, letting pretty much any gun adapt to any situation completely nullifies the point of having no restricted weapons in the first place. However, having no weapon restrictions just means that anyone can use ARs with 3 UGLs and increase the explosive spam even more. Not having any weapon restrictions resulted from 128 players and most maps being twice the size ofAl Sundan (if not larger).
What a well made video, I applaud you for your hard work! The best battlefield 2042 video by a long mile. Such a shame what this game turned out to be. Consistently playing battlefield games for 15 years, it's extremely sad to say that I don't even want to have this game downloaded. Lets hope for a brighter future with all the staff changes at Dice. Hello Catalyst, Your videos have been very helpful for me as a new player to 2042 and i thank you for all the pointers. As a Senior member of our gaming community (Started on a brand new Sears Robuck Pong system) Battlefield has been my favorite franchise when i bought a PS5 for BG3, BF2042 was only $12. I jumped in when Redacted was a few weeks old and its the only map i dont just constantly die because everyone was new to it. Cheers Catalyst
As of this comment I have played 1385 hours in BF2042. Am thankful to DICE for their dedication. They managed to turn this game around. Although, I doubt AAA studios can redeem/ care for their core audience since we are in a time where everything is following trends and appealing to modern audience, if they don't, they get hated /canceled. The Veterans are the ones who suffered the most. All DICE devs who made the base of what Battlefield is have already left for retirement or to pursue other projects. DICE's 2042 devs came in new to the Frostbite Engine along with EA stomping on their heads to (Follow Trends, make skins, make battle passes AND release it on X day of Y month in 20xx year) then 2020 happened. 2042 would've been great IF the same devs who worked on the older titles did setup/ work on 2042. But most of them started leaving after releasing BF1 and building a base engine for BFV, the remaining devs continued the core elements and made BFV a good Battlefield game, you can argue what you want about BFV, it was worthy of the franchise's name. Those days are long gone, 2042 released with questionable design decisions, missing legacy features, Specialists, low amount of content, etc. I blame EA for not giving the new devs the time they needed to make a decent Battlefield game. While I hope they redeem themselves in the next Battlefield title, I really doubt EA will let DICE take their time. DICE announced that a 7th season for 2042 with more than 1 map & doubtfully alot of content is coming in March 2024 (pretty long wait tbh) though the game is done for imho. Conclusion: Redemption: 10/10 Fun: 7-8/10 Battlefield game: NOPE, it lacks alot compared to even BFV. P.S: Good Luck for you and what the future have for you. RIP to your friend.
I feel like the Plus system could come back if it’s changed by quite a lot, like only letting us change foregrip’s (not including lasers) on all guns, but guns like LMG’s could have the option to change barrel length since most LMG’s irl can quickly change their barrels. optics makes no sense really unless your just flipping up your iron sights, or canting you gun to the side for again, iron sights or a canted red dot. Muzzles devices could work if it’s suppressors only since muzzle brakes typically need to be tuned and suppressors typically just have quick detach/screw onto the end of the weapon.
I've been playing Battlefield games since BF2, nearly twenty years now and it amazes me that BF games will still quite happily spawn you into an instant death. Yesterday the game spawned me directly the falling tower in CaspIan Border and died literally half a second after spawning. And that's when it doesn't spawn you into the path of a tank shell or where some bombs are about to it
I think you summed it up perfectly when you said that BF2042 can be a fun FPS at time and is now in a "decent" state (people talking about redemptiom are delusional), however it's a very bad Battlefield.
2042 as a whole, has been a rollercoaster, its in a better state then it was when it launched but it fell short much like the previous installment did. The only real reason I still play is because of my clanmates/friends play it. While I haven't talked to you in sometime it's nice to hear you're in a similar position as me when it comes to life. I hope you're doing well friend and get a better foothold on life.
I agree. I played BF1942, BF Vietnam, BF2 and BF3. The last releases of "Battlefield" from what I have seen looks like a mashup of COD and other FPS games. Hope you find what truly makes you happy.
I have some input as a Hazard Zone player. I enjoy it more than the rest of 2042. You NEED to have a squad or clan to work with as playing with randoms rarely results in a win. The AI have been made very aggressive and have insane targeting distances. The old “buy your loadout” is gone, you now pick a specialist like any other mode. DICE has added some support, including a countdown that allows the less populated matches to start with 8 players minimum. Population depends on time and region. Sometimes you get full lobbies back to back, others you wait around for 6-10 mins. It is well worth trying out if you can move tactically. Aim more for collecting uplinks rather than the data drives. Redeploy uplinks can be rare, and are very important to have. Try it out, and if you like it try picking some tips from HZ veterans.

Honestly i feel like Frostbite is a HUGE issue that EA forces on studios. There's a list of massive issues with 2042, and EA nearly killed Mass Effect with Andromeda (btw, they're not using frostbite for the next ME game LMAOOO)

When I downloaded the beta, I hadn't played multiplayer games in like 10 years and hadn't played BF before. But it was a free beta so I checked it out, and actually got very excited. In the time in between the beta and launch, I bought prior BF games on sale and ground them out. Coming back to 2042 at launch was so strange because it felt so much worse than I remember the beta being. It just felt so janky and half-baked in comparison to what I'd been experiencing for the past few months. I even had a regular BF4 server and had gotten to see the little community that had built up around that server. (It was really cool going from a newbie to being someone that could hold his own against vets who'd stuck with that game for years) So in a big way I resonate with new players who are checking out BF2042 for the first time and simply don't have that frame of reference for what a good BF game should be. Big thanks to Catalyst not only for your BF2042 content, but content regarding prior games that's been really enjoyable and informative, and best of luck in all your future endeavors.
I need bf 6 to be set in the modern day the future setting does nothing but alienate me because i know nothing about the world and 2042 doesn't care enough to show me.
They somehow managed to make BF2042 one of the hardest BF games while also having the lowest skill ceilings ever, both due to the sheer unreadability of the game.
The fact that you think that "everyone vehicle can do everything" is hilarious, how can you claim that when you barely have any vehicle equipments unlocked, if you really were a competent vehicle driver you'd know that every vehicle excels at doing certain things and that each one has it's own playstyle. It's outrageous to think that an AA can fill the role of a tank and vice versa.
You’re absolutely selling if you think I didn’t reach out to multiple elite vehicles players to gage their opinions on this and have them all tell me I was spot on. You misunderstood the point. They don’t fill other roles completely, they have the ability to fill multiple roles at once, which is the problem.
And why is that a problem? The game would be even more frustrating if you didn't have means to fight off infantry as an AA, especially with all the new gadgets available to engineers, which is why I don't see your point, every vehicle has it's weaknesses and strengths, and if you try to fill multiple roles at the same time you will fail to fill the role the vehicle was designed to fill. The tank, for example, is great at dealing with infantry and decent against armor, but is greatly hindered by air vehicles, and if there's a good jet/helo pilot in the enemy team I can either pray that one of my teammates takes an AA and deals with it or I can equip the Rocket Pod on the tank trading anti-infantry capabilities in favor of being effective against air vehicles within 50 meters. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have that than being a sitting duck for air vehicles like it used to be back in BF4.
Bad maps seem to be a theme with BF games. IMO, the maps in Bad Company 2 were phenomenal, BF3 good, BF4 less good, BF1 were hit and miss, BFV they were borderline atrocious, and now they seem to be getting even worse. Just picked up BF2042 bc it was 11,99€ and i need to move on from BFV before i throw my PC out the window. Let's see how long i can stand playing 2042... (update: just played it for the first time, and the sound glitched out literally in the first match i was able to play. well second, it put me in an empty lobby the first time...)
I was a long long time hardcore BF4 player, only lightly played BF1 and a tiny bit of BFV, was hopeful for 2042 then watched the crap release. only bought it on sale shortly before classes were added back. After they added the classes back I played this game a LOT. I went through some on an off periods, but then when redacted came out I was ADDICTED to this game, that map was some serious crack. After that the next two (and final maps) were released and it just got worse each time. now I realize how bad the map and game design is (outside of redacted imo) and I get so frustrated about the terrible map design. The gunplay is SO addicting, but the map play and specialists hold this game back so so much and just ruins the game. I know I'm gonna look back on the redacted period as a good gaming memory but be ill be so disappointed about how this game could've been amazing.
Watching this makes me really appreciate the simplicity of the old battlefield. This game is just a big mess, even looking at the menus it just looks like every other game out there with its micro transactions, in game currency and all that other bs. Battlefield has lost its soul
Yeah they redeemed themselves, but 2042 just lacks the feel of other battlefields regardless, it's for some not so tangible reason just boring, I can't play more then 1 - or 2 rounds until I am just done with it. I think they need to just end it and concentrate on a new game. The maps are still too open to being shot form too many directions, not to mention elevations. even the new maps kind of suck. There's like 3 maps I enjoy, keep in mind I have been palyimg 2042 heavily and I am close to 300 hours probably and am done with it now. Going to go back to 5 and 1 I think. I miss the chime noise when I get a kill in battlefield 1, it just doesn't feel good 2042, it's just off...
Wow... I was really looking forward to maxing this out on a 4090 but uh yeah... I wouldn't touch this if it was F2P. Now wonder it's got an 83% discount on steam. It's garbage. Looks like somebody in a boardroom won when they demanded different creative and competitive design... and now they've fumbled at everything they were good at and have essentially destroyed the brand. BF5 was a stinker. BF1 while gorgeous didn't go much better than the Hindenburg in terms of ROI. This was it, like literally. They will claw back what they can from this catastrophe and this is probably the last BF. Don't cry that it's over. Smile that it happened.
Wish they would just remaster BF2-bad company 2. When they switched whatever they switched back to BF1 something was off. Just remaster all the old Battlefields please!! 🤣✌️
It's supposed to have more players than ever, but every lobby is full of bots. We're getting black screen bug at the end of the round for a month. Aiming is still off. There's only half the maps of previous games. It has some of the best trailer visits and narrative but none of that is seen in game. It is by far the worst game in the franchise, and I really disliked BFV. I'm being harsh because I used to love this series and want it to succeed. This isn't it. There's something there because I can play it with friends and have fun, for a while. I don't want to complain anymore, I'm indifferent about the game. Hope preorders of the next game are brutally low because this kind of product should have impact that shows the devs and greedy investors they cannot do this, people won't buy this.
There's a new server bug in which sever slots are backfilled with bots during a match after players leave the server, instead of being filled with players waiting to queue. A bit odd since we used to start rounds with half bots and then see the server fill up, but now the servers start mostly full and empty out as the round progresses. It's kinda funny since I used to get super annoyed about joining rounds that were almost over, but now that rarely happens and we have the opposite problem.
@@TheLizardKing752 Yeah I heard about that too. Also the player numbers at later hours, in EU at least, make it impossible to find a match. Waiting in queue with dozen others. Might be the same problem or that there were 64 and 128 conquest splitting the players.
@@djnorth2020 I usually play conquest 64 but I've been getting Arica Harbor so frequently. I'm starting to suspect that behind the scenes they pick like 4 maps each week for that rotation and only queue those 4.
So I myself an a battlefield player for the same amount of time as you bad co. 2, I can't stand this game at all it doesn't feel like battlefield it feel like some COD trash cheat based over done game, why does DICE have to fix crap when it's not broken? I think BF3 was hands down excellent. From the playability to the map design 3cwas awesome. With that why change the formula? I feel like if DICE peaks itself from EA grip then the actual input from the community would actually matter. But who cares they obviously don't so what's the point? The only way to make this change is to STOP buying broken over hyped games from company's like EA
I bought it this sale for 6 and it just janky yeah the maps are bad and the gunplay just doesnt feel good. I refunded it its not even worth that. I guess ill stick to BF4. Oh and having my hotas plugged makes me spin...
I have had fun with the game since launch, but it was an awful launch. It needed more time and content at launch. I am still flabbergasted that the game launched with so few weapons and maps. At launch we had 7 2042 maps, of which I would say 2 were pretty fun. Orbital and Discarded were the two that I liked at launch. The rest were just plain not fun. Fast forward to now and I like 5 of those 7 maps and think all of them saw improvements. The only two that I am still not a big fan of are Hourglass and Manifest. In addition, we got 6 more maps all of which are fun. This is still not enough for 2 years of post launch support but I am happy with the maps we got overall. Weapons. We started with 22 weapons overall. The lowest of any BF I have played. The weapons were fun and unique from one another, but that is way too few. Especially the fact that we had two lmgs at launch. Since then, we have 61 total weapons. It is an improvement but I wish that the game had more non automatic weapons. We have 14 ARs, that is a solid amount, 10 more than at launch. We currently have 5 snipers... 2 more than at launch. Tactical and Marksman categories are in a similar spot. I like the weapons they have added but they still have more they can add. I have voiced before on Reddit especially that vault weapons need to continue coming out. We could easily go from 61 to 84 unique weapons just by adding the weapons from Portal that don't have a 2042 counterpart. Gadgets have gotten a major face-lift, doubling since launch. No problems here, I just still want more as each gadget adds more options to the sandbox. Vehicles are a mixed bag. While they added great things like the Ram and Brawler, I have issues with the Stealth Helicopters, Tor, and the Pondhawk. The Pondhawk ruins certain maps that only have light transports. The Tor is better now that it has been nerfed but it can still spawn camp a lot of vehicles across the map, the Stealth Helicopters are also better but still are just annoying to the experience. Performance has improved, but still has room for improvement and that is how I would sum up the game. The game has gotten better, but it has seemed to have slowed quite a bit in Seasons 5 and 6. In Season 5 and 6 so far we have gotten 2 maps, 1 map rework, 6 weapons, 1 vehicle, and 6 gadgets/throwables. Let's compare that to Seasons 3 and 4 of this game. 2 maps, 3 reworks, 2 specialists, 20 weapons, 2 vehicles, and 8 gadgets/throwables. 2 less reworks, 2 less specialists, 14 less weapons, 1 less vehicle, 2 less gadgets... I just can't understand why. The game was making good progress at good speed. I thought once we were done getting specialists we would get significantly more gadgets, when we were done getting map reworks I thought we would get at least 2 maps per season... but no. The game is fun and a lot better than launch. However they need to do more to add content. I acknowledge that Season 5 and 6 added some solid bugfixes and quality of life updates. However I have found myself less interested in the game since the end of Season 4 just because there is less content per season by a decent margin. Great video, just my thoughts on the progression of the game and how far it has come. Just finished the video and I need to say thank you for everything. I have not been around for the longest time on your channel but you have made some great content on BF. For me you are in my top 3 for BF content creators. You, Gravity, and CadWoman just made me think more deeply on my experiences with BF and enjoy it more. I hope in the future you can find a new experience that captures you entirely. As a 23 year old who just got accepted for a really interesting and frankly life changing experience, I know the feeling you are having. I had that for a bit too. @@TheLizardKing752I liked Manifest for about a week or two. Once I was just getting killed from every angle including on top of shipping containers in large part due to Mackay, I stopped having fun. There are decent areas of Manifest, but on the whole I don't like it much.

You know it wont be. It will be another hero based live service that, once again, tries to capitalise on Next Big Thing and/or BR. No persistent servers, no proper scoreboard, no first person takedowns, no rush, no anything that made BF BF, just garbage nonsense. But hey, they will probs have an indigenous trans hero you can play as called ESG.

Considering your obvious passion for the BF franchise, it is an achievement in itself to produce the most unbiased, as well as accurate, Bf2042 video I've seen. All the best for the future.
What really made what happened with BF2042 so painful was comparing it to the trailer. It was blatantly being marketed on the vibe of a BF3/4 style experience, which understandably got people excited. With the last 2 entries being World War centric, it's safe to say a lot of people were ready for return to the modern style and get a definitive take on the modern setting with a newer engine, but what we got was very far from that, and it's still too far from it today.
Battlefield 2 had the right formula for that time. Gun play was amazing, team work was great and vehicles were generally fun. The dynamics of the game with many great maps, battles were just FUN. 😊 BFBC2 was new to me and i hated it as it changed the formula i fallen in love with in bf2. But as with anything new, one gets used to it and it's something you come to love or hate. But i did start to fall in love with the new mechanics of bfbc2 and then bf3. My 4070 and ryzen 7 5800x3d is laggy 👎 in high settings on 2042. I believe 4080 and intel 13900k is about as low as one should go to enjoy high settings without DLSS.
19:15 , I actually need to make an effort in order NOT to read those 'quotes', because everytime I read them I feel like I lost braincells... They should've added historical battle related quotes to the loading screens like the Total War franchise, at least then I'd learn some history instead of feeling stupid.
